Rumor: Lois Lane Won't Be In New Superman Film

Now that Superman has been cast, the search is on to find the leading lady for the upcoming film. Spoiler alert, though: The main female character in the movie will not be Lois Lane.

Zack Snyder's Superman movie reboot seems to be picking up steam. The script by David Goyer is done, the Man of Steel himself <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/107400-New-Superman-Movie-Finds-its-Hero>has been cast, and now some major actresses are being considered for the lead female role. However, early reports are claiming that the role is not that of Lois Lane.

According to Variety, actresses Alice Eve, Rosamund Pike, and Diane Kruger are the frontrunners for the role. All three of these women have some major roles under their belts. Eve was the main romantic interest in <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Shes-Out-League-Jay-Baruchel/dp/B003IMESBY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296850294&sr=8-1>She's Out Of My League. Pike was one of the Bond girls in <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Die-Another-Day-Widescreen-Special/dp/B00005JLBE/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1296851413&sr=1-1>Die Another Day, as well as a leading character in both <a href-http://www.amazon.com/Surrogates-Bruce-Willis/dp/B002UZCJ8Y/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1296851454&sr=1-1>Surrogates and <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Pride-Prejudice-Keira-Knightley/dp/B000E1ZBGS/ref=sr_1_2?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1296851507&sr=1-2>Pride & Prejudice. Kruger, in turn, was in both <a href=http://www.amazon.com/National-Treasure-Widescreen-Nicolas-Cage/dp/B00005JN5E/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1296851531&sr=1-1>National Treasure movies and played Helen in <a href=http://www.amazon.com/Troy-Two-Disc-Widescreen-Brad-Pitt/dp/B0002Z0EYK/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1296851564&sr=1-1>Troy.

Variety reports that the female role hasn't actually been identified yet, "but it's not Lois Lane." According to io9 "Lois isn't in the film at all, because it takes place before Clark Kent goes to work at the Daily Planet."

OK, fair enough. If Clark Kent doesn't get to the Daily Planet yet, I can understand why Lois wouldn't be in the film. Presumably, then, the love interest will be Lana Lang, but I'm holding out hope that things will take a turn for the weird and Superman ends up falling for <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lori_Lemaris>Lori Lemaris.

Is there anyone in the DC universe who DIDN'T have a comic of their own? ANYONE?

Fine by me, but if she does come back I hope she isn't brain dead stupid in this film.

The more I hear of this movie the less excited I am.

I mean, have you seen who they cast as Superman? That dude looks NOTHING like him!

People were up in arms when Michael Keaton was cast as Batman.
People (including myself) had no faith in Heath Ledger to play The Joker.
Both of those turned out pretty well.
Lets at least wait until the first trailer's out before we start passing judgement. More often than not, these people know what they're doing.

Every time I hear Superman love interest I hear Lana Lang. And every time I hear Lana Lang I picture one person who is probably the most beautiful girl on this planet

Please for the love of all that is holy don't let it by freaking Lana Lang, smallville totally ruined that character forever for me, maybe in 20 years someone might be able to fix it, but not now, it's too soon.

So what? Christian Bale doesn't particularly look like the Bruce Wayne of the comics and that doesn't stop him from being awesome.

I heard from a friend of mine several actresses WERE auditioning for the role of Lois Lane, one of which was Twilight's Kristen Stewart who, from what I gather, pissed Zack Snyder off and was quoted as saying she "wasted his time".

That pouty shit might work in Twilight, but it ain't gonna fly in Superman.

Diane Kruger all the way. She's a way better actress than Troy or National Treasure would have you believe. Just great in Inglorious Basterds. But, knowing Zack Snyder, it won't matter for acting ability. Whichever actress will look better naked will get the part. How else can you explain Malin Ackerman in Watchmen?

If it is Lana, I just hope she isn't a complete selfish *****, like she was in Smallville. I have nothing against the actress, it's just the direction that show went with the character that made me want to slap a *****.

That being said, I can't help but nitpick over how thin Bale was in The Dark Knight. It was as if he was half-way looking like his character from The Machinist.

Nothing much has changed since then. And then there are the characters who had their own titles, which were popular, but discontinued do to poor sales, or whatever excuse publishers throw around.

Of course it has to have a love interest. How else are they going to repeat the romantic "flying in the sky" montage?
