A friend of mine sent me text this morning talking about a rumored Vita bundle since I've been interested in getting one before the PS4 comes out. After a quick Google search I found tons of articles saying that a bundle might be announced at Gamescom for $500. While it is still just a rumor at this point I'm really excited because that price is a steal. I know the general consensus is that the Vita has no games, but for $100 more than a system that you may already be getting, would it be worth it to get one?

My question to you, The Escapist Community, is would you be interested in buying this bundle? $100 more puts the price in line with the Xbox One, but to me the Vita is way more interesting than the Kinect 2.

EDIT: Video spoiler'd for space.

Maybe? Depends on when this sale is and if there are any games I want for either platform by then. So far it's not looking like I'll get a PS4 until awhile after launch.

Essentially my Vita would just be a persona 4: the golden/ possible Valkyria Chronicles 3 vehicle, and I don't have much interest in the PS4, as I would rather have the PS3 with it's library.

Yes I'd be interested. I'll eventually buy a PS4 and a Vita does sweeten the deal, provided they can get more games on the thing. I'd like something more than Persona 4: The Golden if I'm going to spend an extra 100 on top of a PS4.
Not that I'll be purchasing a PS4 at launch, but I usually buy new systems about a year in.

A Bundle like that would hardly sell. Vita is dead weight, and it's way to expensive for consumers (Which is why I think the XBone will not sell well after Christmas). While I have no doubt the PS4 will sell fine, this rumored bundle definitely wouldn't.

Hmmm, now that would be interesting indeed. For the same price of an Xbox One you could have two "consoles", each with their own separate games, but can also interlink with each other. And the fact that all PS4 games that don't require extra accessories like the Move and Eye also have Remote Play on Vita as a mandatory requirement.

Not a terrible deal in my opinion.

I was in the same boat, until I decided to give PS+ a try. Now I have 7 Vita games sitting on my PS3's hard drive from the first month alone. Now not everyone is into paying a subscription to access games, but the system seems to have a lot more games than people give it credit for, though I guess if those games are something you want to play is another matter entirely.

I'm with you a little bit, I don't think it will be a popular bundle for average consumers considering the price tag. I do however think that it will sell well among enthusiast gamers who may have been hesitant to pick up a Vita. Personally I see the Vita having quite a few more games for it that I'm interested in than it did when it first launched. With second screen support and remote play compatibility with all PS4 games I think it will be an interesting accessory to have coming into this next console generation and getting it for $100 more (instead of buying it separately for $250) seems like a steal.

Does the Vita have any prominent games at all?

I'm not a handheld gamer, but even if I was I can't think of anything play-worthy, except Persona.

Soul Sacrifice and Muramasa Rebirth look really cool to me, though I haven't seen many people talk about them. Persona is a given, and I've already got 7 other games that I obtained through PS+. I'm really excited about it as an accessory to go with the PS4 because I've seen how cool the Wii U gamepad can be with remote play.

According to wikipedia the system has 223 games as of June 30th, 2013 though if you look at the chart on the page it looks like only a little more than half of those games were released in North America or Europe.

I may be interested I wont be getting a PS4 until there are some games I want however so I will weigh it up then really the only reason I would be interested in a Vita is because of Gravity Rush and a few handheld fighting games but its hardly something I am really excited for.

Really though the PS4 is right on the price limit I am willing to except for a next gen console and this bundle would put it alongside the Xbox One in price which is way to high for me. Now PS4 and Vita for 350 pounds or PS4 for 300 solo and I would probably take the bundle.

A Vita currently retails for ?250.This means Sony would be taking a hit of ?150 on top of the loss they will be selling the PS4 at on every bundle.Given how much money they've been losing in recent years is this actually a viable option for them?

If Sony believed that it could actually move Vita units, then probably. I don't really know the math on this, but I don't think it is quite as simple as $650 - $150. I would imagine that it would be cheaper to ship and sell a bundle then it would be to ship and sell the two units separately. In addition I would be fairly surprised if they were selling PS Vitas at a loss right now, as they have had quite a bit of time to work out manufacturing kinks and bring the production cost down. But then again what the hell do I know?

OT: I actually wouldn't be surprised if this happened. It could probably get more Vitas sold and stimulate game production for that system. This might just be what Sony needs for the Vita. I know that I would consider picking this up, as the Vita probably has enough games to justify paying $100 for it.

That's $100 for a Vita, and I already know I'll be getting a PS4 at some point. So, this bundle is actually kind of awesome. If I have the money for it when it rolls around, I'll definitely pick it up.

Sony really wants to push the Vita with the PS4. Wasn't there something about every PS4 game being Cross Play-enabled or something?

So it makes sense to have a PS4/Vita bundle, to hopefully boost the Vita install base and promote actual development for the handheld.

That would be very interesting. Especially with the ps4 requiring remote play on vita. Right now there are not many games that really use the vita hardware to its real capability. Uncharted comes to mind, but its hindered by being a tech demo for every vita control gimmick. It would jump the game at least a point or two on the scale if you could simply use only the normal controls and turn off all the balance, light sensor, touch screen stuff.

But its getting an increasing amount of the indie games on it. I'm not a huge fan of those or handheld consoles in general. So I hardly use mine. But for people who are fans of them its becoming a steadily more useful system.

I would even probably buy such a bundle despite having a vita I don't use already. For that big a savings I'd get another to gift someone. Although it would have to be a launch bundle as I have preordered a ps4.

I don't see that happen, you know the Vita being indeed around $250 as metalDooley said.

BUT it won't be the worst idea .. the Vita alone is well just the Vita. But its connection to the PS4 could offer allot more functionality.

But I see it closer to an $550 bundle. I see a gain in the Vita, not sure yet what it can offer the PS4. But watching a movie on netflix on your vita as it is streamed from the PS4 sounds kinda awesome.

Exactly, that is the point of this.

Sony plans to software upgrade the Vita to play any digital PS4 games you own for PS4. So you play you PS4 games on your PS4 at home and you can continue to play those same games on the Vita.

Though it could be a lie to sell more Vita's.

It's retail library is pretty small.

It's digital library including the indie content is pretty big in reality. Cheap too.

I got mine for 220? and it included a game and a 4 gb card which I feel cost a fortune and yes that was with taxes and shipping. So they would only take a lose of about 100?

Supposedly Sony is going to make an announcement at Gamescom later this month. It's still just a rumor at this point, but at least we wont have to wait long to find out if it is true. I'll pull my PS4 preorder and put money down on this bundle the day of the announcement if it is true.
