Really? Now I love Kratos, but this seems to be treading on Mario territory. I feel like this is fucking Saw! They quote each one saying "see the end" then the next time the end keeps going.

It's like if in a movie it ended with humanity being extinct and earth being blown up, the the sequel takes place in the same place as the empty void...well maybe not but still, God of War was great, but why not make a NEW character, GoW3 hurt Kratos' reputation a bit by making him unable to be empathized with as he killed Gods who were upset that he fucked the world up, which he really did do.

Give us a comic book to explain the GoW3 aftermath and make a new character whom we can enjoy as much as that pale, red tattoo'd beast of a man named Kratos

God of War IV: Kratos vs. The World

Play as the god-slaying, Kratos as you litteraly kill everyone on Earth, then destroy the Earth itself!

Not only Kratos has killed every relevant god by now, but he has become such a caricature that the only role for him right now would be as the final boss, while we get to play a more adecuate protagonist.
Just spitballing ideas here, but imagine this:

You're a viking, sailing the high-seas and looking to make a killing (pun intended), when suddenly BAMM! giant flood crashes your ship down, killing you, your crew, your family and probably a dog or something (tears ensue). Next thing you know, you're in Valhalla! drinking wine and having a bloody good time. So you decide to sneak up on Odin's chair and see the entire world (reference to an actual norse legend about Baldur) and lo and behold! that giant flood was caused by Kratos (after killing Poseidon).

Fuck me! (you tell yourself) that bloke got a can of whoop-ass coming for him. So you decide to tear through the nine-worlds, killing Jötnar (frost-giants) and dwarves and dragons, hunting for Kratos. The final boss fight would be in Miðgarður (the world possessed by humans), where you face of with Kratos in an epic fight that will nearly consume the entire world.

The twist would be that after you defeat Kratos and nearly destroy the world in process, you'd become that which you were fighting against, oh! and all other pantheons and gods want you kill you (sequel-bait).

Will they actually make the cutscenes skippable this time? The unskippable cutscenes in GoW3 absolutely killed the replay value.

It's speculated that the next game will have you playing as Kratos' long-lost brother. I mean look at all the hints: that video in the special features of the first game, that parchment in Hades that begs for revenge against Kratos in the third, and (also in the third) that voice in the lake of blood.

Put me on the "couldn't care less" list after that terrible game they called God of War 3. Seriously what a piece of shit game. It had a few moments but when all the weapons are the exact same, when all the areas are constantly revisted
THis. 3 was terrible. only if they make 4 an MMO, where all the player characters are people who lvl up to climb olympus to finally kill Kratos once and for all. Then sony can make their yearly GoW revenue, I can make my own character and pick the skills and weapons I like. Heck they can even re-use myths, locals and legends from all of the games as long as it is action MMO, and it retains the controls.

Guilds. lvl99 level cap. Epic weapons, RAIDS raids raids raids. Parties of up to 18 characters. Instanced dungeons. Rare named monsters. Open world events. Factions! Open world PvP and looting. Armour sets, Magically imbued weapons?

Free to play online experience has a lvl cap of 35. Subscribers get the lvl 99 cap, and access to expansion content.
$10 USD monthly subscription. Sign me up for beta testing, I think I just made myself drool.

or, make GoW4 a clone of the previous 3 with slightly different weapons and mechanics, and I will pass. I'll just wait for the next Ninja Gaiden. Your call Sony! Make the right choice.

I know they talked about Kratos moving on to slaughter the Norse gods...but couldn't they just make a new franchise with that idea? Kratos' reason for being mad and all that was because the gods tricked him and what not, the Norse gods haven't done anything against him =/
.....yet.

I'm sure they will come up with something. A war perhaps.
They will probably come up with a reason, a piss poor one at that too.

Oh boy. I wonder which section of the game will send Kratos to hell this time. Will it be the beginning, the middle, or the end? I can't wait to find out.

story premise... and so Kratos is again wondering where his life went wrong while sitting on Zeus' corpse.

Kratos: "It's not my fault, I didn't want to do this. People just don't understand me..."

Buddha appears in a flash of light

Buddha: "Love all, so that you may not wish to kill any"

Kratos: "So this is your fault Buddha!"

Buddha: "what?"

Kratos: "Through your death I shall finally attain forgiveness!"

Buddha: "That makes no se-"

And so Kratos continues on his quest to find forgiveness through the death of anyone who can be accused of being alive.

Hasn't he literally killed everything at the end of the final game? Including himself?

Sorry, EoG spoilers. But it does make me wonder about how exactly they'll do this.
Well, if you stayed all the way until after the credits you will see that *********SPOILERS********* Kratos' gone as if he dragged himself off or something moved him...

I'm guessing this new game will have to find some confusing and totally unreasonable, erm, reason for Kratos to go off and kill something else. Maybe one day he'll sneeze and someone passing by will say "God bless you" And then he's going to all like "WHAT?????" *stabs the guy* "Gods are the reason of all my troubles!!! I NO NEED NO BLESSING!!!" And then he'll be off (penny arcade did this) and fight of Jesus and God and kill the Universe...

What a one note character... :S Blergh.

There's no way Sony would give up on a franchise like God of War, but swapping in a new character and a new storyline could be a risky move.
Kratos does the first mission. The rest of the game, you play as Raiden.

(Actually, given the Mortal Kombat crossover, it might be amusing to play as the God of Thunder...)

I would think the obvious thing would be to set Kratos against some other pantheon or pantheons- the Egyptian, Celt, or Norse gods and monsters all have some interesting possibilities.

The biggest flaw here is that I don't think the God of War team works that fast >.>

2 years for this game when it took 4 for the last and there's nothing official about it yet is a little bit of a stretch, but if it's true, then awesome! I'd love to see the story go further if possible and to find out what really happened at the end of III

i might have an idear just think

your a normal soldier in a army but soon you find you are going off to fight a one man (who) Kratos! and after a epic boss you pass out later you wake up to find that you are the only man surviving the battle so you start to make the trip home only to find every one is desd there to so he swears revenge against the man.

I think this would make a great GOW IV why well every one says that kratos would kill other gods but i think that i should be about some one trying to stop him while slowly turning into him so there is still that hack-o slash-o game play we all know and love so i don't know tell me what you think.

actually Dave Jaffe wanted that... but since he's not the creative director since the first game that (probably) isn't wants going to happen. But i have to agree with a previous comment. I call shenanigans
