Runners Up you prefer to the Gold Standards

Depending where you are, you know what the masses consider to be the Creme De La Creme of any subject. If you're in the Tri-State Area and you're talking Ice Cream, we're talking about Haagen-Dazs in stores or Cold Stone for the Ice Cream Shoppe Experience or we're not having a real conversation. For certain TV aficionados, if Sony or Samsung wasn't a talking point, we just wasted everyone's time.

But some of us like Friendly's ice cream. Some people find the value of a TCL tv more in line with what they like. While the world around us tells us what the Gold Standard to which everything must be measured up to, some of us find much more satisfactions in these Second String Runners up.

For many, the Gold Standard in video game Kart racing is Mario Kart. It's the tried and true, the endearing symbol that every other Kart racer will be compared to.

And it's boring.

I personally think Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed [https://www.sega.com/games/sonic-all-stars-racing-transformed] is the best Kart game that ever was. Screw Mario Kart. Forget Crash Team Racing. Who cares about Diddy Kong racing? Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed has the power ups, the customization that actually matters, the characters, the music, the stages... and the transformations.

Stages that can branch off into different areas of the map and necessitate your vehicle changing forms. You don't need to just be a good driver, you need to know how to speed boat race, and then you need to know how to pilot well. It was a perfect package. I'm gutted that the developers of such a great game made Team Sonic Racing instead of porting or making a sequel to Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. I never really liked Sonic, so just having a racer with it's characters means nothing to me.

So what about you? Are you tired of all the love that Street Fighter gets and you wish the world knew about Project Justice? Do you think Netflix is fine, but you're all about Philo? Do you get why people love their iPhones but you're all about that oneplus 7 life? Let us know.

I prefer Titan power tools to more expensive brands, because more expensive brands are more expensive.

Where I live, Canada Dry is the most widely consumed brand of ginger ale. As for me, I prefer Seagram's ginger ale.

I can't argue with that logic.

You need to copy-paste this and make an exact same thread in Gaming Discussion. A game specific version of this thread is a brilliant idea.

Have been mulling over whether to try that Sonic racer for quite some whiles now. This post has pushed the mulling a little further towards action, in spite of all the chronic indecision. Not sure on what the consensus for the gold standard is considered to be, but when it comes to wine, any time a taste is had from bottles worth over a hundred pounds British Sterling, that taste does not equal ten or more times a better tongue experience than the average. Not even double. There's the possibility they were all never prepared the correct way, perhaps needing an extra two days of warming betwix the buttocks of a pregnant Scottish elf maiden in their third trimester instead of merely the first Tuesday night after a full moon. Unfortunately, i'd rather not be the one spending own money to gather more experience on the subject. No point getting embroiled under sunk cost fallacies and placebos.

I generally prefer diet sodas to their originals, most strongly with Coke/Pepsi. I actually had the misconception to an embarrassingly old age that "diet" was just another flavor modifier when it came to sodas like cherry or vanilla rather than being the low/no calorie versions. There may or may not have been an embarrassing occasion when after seeing a Coke Zero commercial I expressed the hope that they would come out with a zero calorie version of Diet Coke to confused stares. The regular sodas are just too sweet for my liking. Regular Pepsi in particular actually makes my teeth itch when I drink it, which I'm pretty sure is a biological impossibility, but that's the best way I know how to describe the sensation.

No, I know what you mean. I think it's just a layer of sugar forming. Like in toothpaste adverts where they pretend toothpaste re-lays enamel. But with sugar.

Virgin Coke was even worse for that.

I honestly prefer playing on console 'cause at least I know the game will run. Its too much work/money to keep up with PC updates, graphics cards, RAM and RIM and AIM and all that shit. I respect those that do, but I just want to download Red Dead 2 and have it ready to play by the time I get home.

I prefer pre-MCU Marvel movies over the MCU Marvel movies. Yes, even Ang Lee's Hulk. As ill-conceived as that movie was it was atleast interesting to behold. You could actually feel a director's hand at work, not an automated assembly line.

I'll throw in to your example that I really preferred the original crash team racing to mario kart (any). The inclusion of boss battles and story really upped the single player experience, and the multiplayer benefited through interesting themed maps where a given character actually had a real translatable (ie not cheated) advantages through the map being tailored to their stats.

Mario cart got there, but I still feel it fell short just due to a lack of badguy variety to base levels off of. Crash had like six or seven individual and unique bossguys that they worked with.

For non game - I prefer off brand soda to the big two. Something about the reduced sweetness really improves it for me.

Dragon Warrior Monsters was way better than Pok?mon. It had this super complex and cool breeding system that was super fun! I loved the crap out of the first two, never got to play the third though. They remade the first for 3DS, but it was Japan only...

-Babylon 5 is the gold standard for (its style of) televised sci-fi, not Star Trek.

-Farscape is the gold standard for (its style of) televised sci-fi, not Firefly.

-At least at this point in time, Mission: Impossible is arguably the gold standard for spy flicks, not James Bond (even though as a franchise overall, Bond takes the lead)

-A Song of Ice and Fire is arguably better than Lord of the Rings at this point, but that's dubious, in part because I'm not even sure they're in the same 'type' of fantasy per se (both high fantasy, but apart from that...)

Pretty much any other donuts then crispy cream. I'm not sure if crispy cream is supposed to be the gold standard, but they are everywhere and they are garbage tier.

I'm sorry, my friend; Krispy Kreme most certainly IS the gold standard of donuts, and you're opinion is bordering on criminal.

But in all seriousness, I often watch the video below when I need some good vibes; Irish folks trying Kripsy Kreme for the first time; they're initially cynical (y'know, "typical American gluttony and decadence,") but it doesn't take much to bring them around. Krispy Kreme are the physical manifestation of happiness, science FACT.

I'm with ObsidianJones, I much prefer store brand tubs of ice cream to whatever top label stuff they're selling. It tastes just as good, if not nicer sometimes, is cheaper and you get way more of it

I prefer my local ice cream place over any Bask and Robins.

I would not call Boys II Men a gold standard for R&B groups (when the mid 90s happened), but I have a huge preference to After 7. I enjoyed A7's songs and albums way more than BIIM.

RC Cola I enjoy more than Pesi and especially Cola.

Surge and Mellow Yellow is top tier. Mountain Dew has gotten crappy over the years. Barqs Root Beer is preferrable to A&W's or Mugs. Barqs has a sweeter taste along with the fizz.

Shounen anime like YuYuHakusho and Shaman King are way better written compared to DBZ or One Piece. The actual TV shows any way. Their original manga counterparts all fell in to seasonal rot or the writing got worse/lazy.

Gally/Alita > Major Kusanagi

Sonic will always be my preference over Mario. As is the Genesis over the SNES.

Streets of Rage, Violent Storm or Undercover Cops > Final Fight.

AoSH > SonicSatAM

Sonic OVA > Sonic X

Crispy cream is garbage, just hard and over cooked overly fried garbage. If you want a big name doughnut then go dunken if you want something spectacular then look for more niche shops like Voodoo Doughnuts.
