Salvia divinorum ever tried it?

So my 18th birthday is coming up and I thought I would throw caution to the wind and try something new I've heard about Salvia and it is legal here in California, but I want to know if anyone on the escapist have had any experiences with this drug and what is to be expected from it. Also for added topic should it be legal considering I've heard its worse than pot but you can still get it at the local smoke shop for 6 bucks.

Personally I don't care I'm not going to buy it for regular use I just have alot of shit pilling up in the course of a few years and want to have some fun on my birthday.

EDIT: Those concerned about me( Appericated guys) my birthday party is just going to be with a few close friends possibly at my mothers house if she comes back in time, didn't know it was a mild hallogine so I will be sure to use extra caution thats why I ask for the advice and went on wikipedia for some basic facts.

It's a bit like a really short and mild LSD trip, It's something to try with a trusted friend and definatly not in a crowd of people who are there for your birthday.
It's fun for a time or 2 but i recommend sticking to that. Long term side-effects are unknown.
It's a nice buzz, that's for sure. I did it with a girl i trust, we had major fun

It's nothing like weed, it's hallucinogenic. Depending on strength it can be very intense as well, worth a go though if you're into that kind of stuff.

I think all recreational drugs should be legal so I'm not the best person to ask about whether or not this should be.

Expect either nothing at all (more than likely, a lot of it is rather bunk, and not properly prepared), or something so intense you might not really be prepared for it, especially if you've never had a severely altered state before.

It's very short lasting, very intense, and can cause very uncomfortable body sensations. If it works, you'll fairly fall out of reality entirely for about 5-10 minutes. DO NOT DO IT ALONE. People are prone to losing physical function when they use it. Do not do it standing.

It's a unique experience, but don't jump on it just because it's legal. Know yourself, know what to expect.

OT: Should it be legal? I don't think any of those types of drugs should be legal, but I'm probably in the minority in this regard. I mean, I would be all for banning alcohol, so I'm guessing you can guess where I stand.

Wanted to, but when i heard of it it was 6 month illegal... i wished i would have heard earlier and got myself one plant. Ah well. Maybe it will find its way to me some time.

If you do, like the other before me said: Use the standart- LSD - precautions. But it is unlikely to happen something bad. Just take drugs with friends, in good atmosphere, while happy. And never take it too often: Only at weekends to relax, only one session per month or 2 weeks etc.

Please please please use caution with this substance. It is an amazing experience if used properly, in a proper setting. What ever you THINK it will be/feel like....it ISN'T!

I would never tell someone don't do it, but please for your own well being treat it with respect, it is a powerful substance.

A lot of the youtube people show it as a giggle fest.. What you rarely see is how confused and sometimes upset someone can become. You also don't see Many** videos of people doing it more than once. Likely because after one intense experience they are too afraid to use it again, or realize being on camera around a bunch of giggling twits isn't a very good way to have an enjoyable experience.


TLDR: as many have said before, its not a party drug, it should be used with caution by people that are looking for a unique experience...One that can change how you view the world. Be careful. Do research. Also, read your post again and caught the "a lot of stuff piling up". Your state of mind can really influence the way you react to salvia, not a good idea IMO to experiment with it if you are upset or stressed *especially your first experience with it*

I've been told it's like short very intense acid, a bit like DMT then I guess, but not as horrific. I also did Datura once and spent 3 days completely out of it, and saw in black and white for 2 days afterwards.
