SaveDukeNukem.com - Is the Saga Really Over?

Is closing down [http://www.3drealms.com/duke4/index.html].

The site is empty at the moment except for a small "Stay tuned..." image but its mere existence and the timing of its registration give credence to the theory that the surprise collapse of Duke Nukem developer 3D Realms [http://www.3drealms.com] is just a publicity stunt in advance of the game's release. Attempts to access the site's image directory only adds to the oddness: Rather than displaying an error or a blank page, the site greets users with a "No peeking!" message.

According to a Saveduke.com domain [http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/8jp0v/were_being_played_savedukenukemcom_was_registered/] was registered by an anonymous proxy the day before 3D Realms revealed it was closing its doors. Coincidence?

Yeah, probably. But there's denying that a ton of DNF images and videos have hit the tubes since the announcement, a flow that the copyright holders have made no visible effort to stanch. Where was all this material previously? And if the game is as far along as many "former" 3D Realms employees say, why has the company been unable to come up with enough cash to get it to the finish line? The timing is also suspect; the flash and bang of the resurgent E3 [http://www.e3expo.com/] is less than a month away.

I'm not a conspiracy weirdo by any measure but the whole thing sounds awfully dodgy to me. I don't expect to ever see Duke Nukem Forever actually hit the shelves; on the other hand, until someone rams three Klingon pain sticks into it and says "Sonchi," I'm going to have a hard time believing that the Duke - and this story - is really dead.

if it is a fake closure. Its just one more level of hype that will inevitably lead to the lynching of 3drealm workers when this game doesnt turn out to be the best thing ever created by anyone, ever.

A.. fake closure? wouldn't that create massive legal implications? You can't just "close" but not mean it!

This game's been in a state of undeath for a ridiculous amount of time now. It needs either to have a formal release date, or confirmation that it will never, ever be released.

Either's fine by me; I stopped caring quite a while ago.

Amen to that.
And if it isn't... well... I refuse to get my hopes up about this.

The worst part is: I was actually just starting to believe that the game would come out when all this happened. So from now on, I refuse to hope for anything until I have the disc in my hands.

If this is a stunt it's not a very entertaining one. 3D realms have been doing this for so long that Duke Nukem isn't a greatly antisipaited game or a massive joke...It's just annoying and a little bit depressing.

If the game is released, who bets it will be less than 8 hours long?

Damn I want Duke to survive...just to hear his voice again...

"I'm gonna rip your head off and shit down your neck"

*sniffle* what a heavenly voice he has...

I personally believe that the game is finished, and 3D Realms shut down at its completition.

I don't know how that makes sense but BRING BACK DUKE

The timing does seem odd, to say the game is almost done then announce closure, as you'd thought that would have happened 5-6 years into development and not now. And with all this new media floating around I admit there may be a tiny possibility that this is a PR stunt.

I read somewhere that they started over AGAIN 1.5 years ago - they wanted it to be finished in november and hit the shelves in may 2010 (iirc)
however if they start fundraising on that page - i'll donate!
