OMG It's a helmet off! Good, funny part but this deserves a mention too;

Actually the funniest part, for me, is when the German commanders are discussing something over a map, and the wall falls down... I laughed my guts out during that scene...

Honestly, it was on of the most thrilling and intensive scenes I've ever seen.

"I'm a jew!" (the scene in which the Jewish-American soldier mocks the German POWs) on the other hand, was very funny.

Anyway, I watched it a couple of weeks back, I think it's the first time in a long while killing has made that much of an impact on me. I mean, faceless bad guys in games or empty names on the news are one thing, but this was really scary. War blows, hard

Opening was especially good. But it just steadily petered out ofter that.

That scene was one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen, in any movie, EVER.

Maybe because someone told me about it in advance, but that didn't bother me at all.

My favorite would be the battle at the end, when they were detonating the mortar shells by hand.

I hadn't, actually, no. I've trained myself over time to ignore most of the terrible spelling/grammar on the internet, or I'd have gone mad long ago. I think this guy is just acting anyway, unless someone is genuinely retarded they'd have to make an effort to sound that messed up.

The shell-shocked Normandy landing is fantastic. But the knife fight was much more emotional, less brute shock, more person-to-person. The German soldier trying to ease his passing is the human touch that makes it so much more intense.

Full Metal Jacket is my favorite war movie, but Saving Private Ryan is definitely one of my favorites. I'd love to see a decent WWII movie that actually captures the importance of Soviet Russia though. It seems like we Americans brush aside the Soviet role in WWII, it's really quite annoying.

Yeah, the subtext of "You're already dead, there's no more need to fight" under the soldiers "shh. shh." was absolutely chilling. I've seen the movie probably half a dozen times, and I still find that scene disturbing.

It was one of the first properly graphic films I can remember seeing, watched it when I was about eight. Excellent film. I'm not sure if I have a favourite part though. The entire Normandy beach landing sequence is very intense, as is the sniper duel, and the knife fight is just downright disturbing. The helmet throwing scene that directly follows it is hilarious though. Talk about mood whiplash [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/MoodWhiplash].

Mostly this, Though I would like to add that it was the first Movie of 'its kind' that I ever saw. Will stay with me forever probably.

I guess it was alright. The reason I'm not a huge fan was because it was part of a series on the History channel, and right after it was "Enemy at the Gates", one of the best war movies of all time.

Watch that movie then say "Private Ryan" is violent.
