School Uniform

In the Summer heat, I'm really hating my school uniform. Everyday we have to wear and keep on for most of the day, a dark blazer so you can imagine the nasty sweat patches. I hear that in America most schools have no uniform, I rule I would love. It would mean actually being able to keep cool in the heat and not being boiled alive. I hear a lot of arguments for and against having no uniform and was wondering how people are coping with the heat (in London anyway) and what they think about school uniform in general.

HAHA! I'm out of Catholic school, but when I used to have to wear them...ugh it sucked. If you're able to get away with it, don't wear an undershirt. If you're outside just carry your blazer with you and put it on again when class starts.

I find school uniform irritating but I suppose they have to turn us into soulless machines somehow.

Holland here.

and i think it might be against the law to use school uniforms here.
Freedom of Expression for the win!

we Dutch are really for our freedom.
that's right we don't even *bleep* out nasty words on tv. * le gasp*

EDIT: i really don't see any significant benefits from school uniforms.

Well I'm from America and most schools don't have a uniform... but I really wish they did. Before, I had to wake up every morning and get the same outfit together... I didn't really like it that much at the time, but then the next year I went to a public school and everyone was dressed like idiots. I swear, everyone was sagging their pants or wearing skinny jeans or something equally dumb... I wish we had uniforms.

We've combated that by turning school uniforms into a fetish.

girls wear pants, blazers did not exist,we had no tie and we could wear any type of shoes

yeah uniforms are a ***** but hey it is better than having to think about what you will wear in the morning (yeah i am that lazy!)

My school had polo shirts and jumpers. As about as serious as it could get. But they did have the brass balls to demand that you wear only baseball caps with the school logo on them, and demanding that no part of our clothes had branding. Also, no belts.

Nobody listened. For the majority of time there, the morons didn't buy any school shoes or trousers. They only got away with it because they were the majority.

If it's hot, ignore them. If enough of you do it, it is possible to get away with it.

I had a uniform in Catholic school (white blouse, blue jacket and blue/black plaid skirt). I hated it because it was uncomfortable, but the idea of uniforms in school never bothered me too much. Later on, girls were allowed to wear dark pants instead. Figures.

I would have actually preferred to stay in that school until I was out of secondary/high school, but I finished in public school.

Shit, that sounds brutal. I live in America and my high school had a uniform, but it was just a navy blue polo and khaki shorts/pants/dress. We could wear any jackets or hoodies we wanted so long as they were mostly navy blue.

I was lucky, my school uniform was a polo shirt and jumper. In summer no one cared if we took jumpers off and untucked our shirts. Now I'm in sixth form I have no uniform but it's still a bit hot as all I own are jeans and black Tshirts.

I was lucky in high school since they forced uniforms on everyone a year after I graduated. Phew... The outfit they pegged as a uniform wasn't that bad though. I heard that it was just a jeans jacket and matching pants. Cheesy, but not that bad.

That's actually an impossibility with school uniform at my school, the skirts are both ridiculously long AND a dull grey. And I don't know how but they've somehow invented a blouse that makes cleavage disappear.
And the games skirts have shorts built in to stop...yeah.

...or so I've heard.

my old school uniform was a navy blue polo and jumper (with the school logo), black trousers/skirt and black shoes.

very few people wore the jumper even in winter (I just wore a t-shirt under my polo)

a lot of people wore black jeans instead of trousers, and the teachers were surprisingly lenient about black trainers.

HA! HA! HA!

Being in Sixth Form is sweet

Having said that, I was the only person in school who always did the top button of the shirt up. I have such a scrawny neck, that it makes no difference when it's done, and when it's undone I feel kinda like I've got my entire friggin' shirt undone

I still have to wear a uniform for 6th form. I don't mind because I don't have to wear a blazer, just a shirt and jumper. Skirt length can vary depending on the temperature.

Im so glad I just left school our uniform was a pain.

Wearing a black blazer in summer is... warm.

But it hides sweat pacthes.

Also its VERY cold in winter, you burn AND freeze.
