The only reason first movie did alright is because it had Cage and Eva Mendes in it. I can't stress how stupid that movie was. Cage did OK with the acting part as always but the script was plain fuckin stupid.

Goyer had originally written a script for the first Ghost Rider, which was going to be a heavy R-rated film. Cage signed up, though, and wanted the movie to be PG-13 because he thought Ghost Rider (the beer drinking, violent, cursing biker who turns into a demon with a flaming skull for a head) should be for kids, so the script was thrown out in favor of one by that guy who did Daredevil. I can't imagine Cage not dumbing it down again this time around (note: going from R to PG-13 itself wasn't exactly bad, just the thinking behind it of making one of Marvel's more 'mature-themed' characters into a more kid-friendly movie was).

Apart from the R-to-PG13 thing, Cage was just wrong for the part on all counts. The character's grizzled and hardened, not goofy and over-the-top, and he was put in there just to have a big name. You'd need a Kurt Russell for that kind of role, really. Then again, that movie had a laundry list of problems besides miscast actors...

Hey, since when is Nicholas Cage a bad actor? Sure, he made a few poor choices in his roles, but he's far from a bad actor.

Ever seen Adaptation? Lord Of War? Hell, he did great in Kick Ass too. The Ghost Rider movie was just warped and terribly paced in general, no actor would've saved it.
Nick Cage is a fucking horrible actor, Keanu Reeves has more depth and that's not meant as a compliment. He is the #1 reason I will not watch the first Ghost Rider nor many of his other movies.
He may do a lot of scenery-chewing and hammy acting these days, but it wasn't that long ago when Nicholas Cage really was a great thespian. Don't judge him based solely on his blockbusters, check out his smaller, more critically-acclaimed flicks like Leaving Las Vegas (which earned him his Oscar), Raising Arizona (directed by the Coen brothers, who also made Fargo, No Country For Old Men, The Big Lebowski...), and the aforementioned Adaptation.

Is this a remake or a direct sequel?
Regardless I enjoy Cage's acting and I thought he was good in Ghost Rider 1.

To be brutally honest, I had no problems with Cage's performance in Ghost Rider.
I thought he was fine in Ghost Rider. He was easily the second-best actor in the film, after Sam Elliott (in a stellar reprisal of his role in The Big Lebowski). It's not his fault that the rest of the movie was cheesy and laden with bad special effects. Still, compared to Punisher: War Zone it was a masterpiece.

It's kind of sad that they're pushing this movie out simply to keep the rights from reverting back to Marvel. That just screams quality to me. I'd much rather have Marvel making these movies - they're doing a much better job with them than the other studios are.

I... did not enjoy the first one (big surprise!). I really don't like Nicholas Cage, but...
I don't know, MAYBE this one will be better. Stranger things have happened.

Um... Am I allowed to ask why they're doing this? Really what's the point? Did anybody actually like the first "Ghost Rider" movie? Does anybody even remember the first "Ghost Rider" movie? I don't even remember if I saw it or not.

It's a shame, Ghost Rider could be a truly BADASS film. Instead they're doing a sequel of that flaming turd first movie.

IT'S CALLED REBOOT. FORGET IT, AND NICK CAGE, EVER HAPPENED.

The root problem with the first Ghost Rider movie wasn't Cage's performance (it was actually pretty good), but everything else.

The plot was nothing special, the writing was meh, the supporting characters were annoying, the villains were cliched and unintentionally funny, the special effects weren't all that good (except for when Johnny turns into the Ghost Rider for the first time, that was sweet!), and for what very few action scenes that were included in this high budget superhero film about a Harely riding demon with a perpetually burning skull for a face who fights other demons (including the son of Satan) with a selection possessed chains and supernatural powers were actually pretty damn boring.

I won't be surprised if they don't fix these problems with this new movie, but if they do, yay... I guess.

I like the first movie... the first half to two-thirds was pretty good, well acted, decently paced, and had a good feeling to it. Around that two-thirds point, though, it was like everyone went 'Wait, we're making a comic book movie! Quick, everyone act stilted and throw the dumbest plot ideas and dialogue possible out there! Hurry! We have to torpedo this before we make a GOOD movie on accident!'

Cage, I like. Besides, he's one of us, a comic geek absolute. I'm totally green with him having another run as the lead for a new Ghost Rider film. I might not be there opening day, but I could see making the trek to the theatre to catch this one.

It's not so much that Nicholas Cage is a bad actor as it is that he's a bad choice for Ghost Rider. Johnny Blaze is supposed to a hothead. Nicholas Cage seems to be physically incapable of raising his voice.

Ghost Rider is one of those films where you like/love it or hate it. If they can manage to put in actual action scenes, and not have CG-Rider act cranky toward his enemies before using the insta-kill attack, I'm down for a sequel.

I don't really remember the first Ghostrider movie, though my brother enjoyed it. I'll have to tell him now.

I guess it could have been worse...but it was pretty sad.......

To answer your questions.
1. Why are they doing it? Money
2. The Point? Money
3. Did anyone like it? Yes, Although I admit it was silly and Cage wasn't the proper person for the role, I enjoyed the movie quite a bit.
4. Does anyone remember it? Yes, I do somewhat fondly. I own the dvd and have watched it a few time since buying it. I may be a minority (or who knows? Maybe even Majority?) here but that's how I'd answer your questions

Get rid of Cage and replace him with Jensen Ackles. He would make a great Ghost Rider.
Much fun as that would be, I kinda like Cage in the role. Hopefully a better script will result in a better overall movie. Admit though the thought of Jensen in all that leather....... yum. Make a girl drool why don't you.
