(Sorry, Brad. Couldn't help it.)Brad Shepard said:Sonic fans could or could not be hard to please, maybe if they didn't put out crap like black knight, then we would be OK, the last great sonic game in my mind was SA2 (SA2B if you had a Gamecube) I love it, great levels, they varied the game-play us so you wouldn't get bored, the only level I didn't like was the ones with that bat. ><
I honestly don't understand the hate that game received. Sonic 06', yes, that game was terrible. We ALL know that. Black Knight? It's average, not terrible.
While I'm on this subject, the same goes for Shadow the Hedgehog, which I have played from beginning to end enough times to see the true ending. That game was not terrible either, and again I don't understand why people hate it. I know the game was darker than Sonic based ones, and that was part of the point.
If they did, the world would have to be as huge as Just Cause 2. In fact, if SEGA could make an open world Sonic game where you can run around for hours on end, like in Spiderman: Web of Shadows, Crackdown 2, or Just Cause 2, then I would seriously consider playing such a game for weeks.Sean Strife said:I give Sega 10 bonus points for referencing Daft Punk, but as long as Sonic 4 meets "Face to Face" with my enjoyment of the past Sonic games, I will have no complaints. Also, I'm surprised Sega hasn't tried to make a game based on the storyline of the Sonic SatAM cartoon back in the day.
Overall, I agree that Sonic fans are passionate, but speaking as a fan who has played about 90% of all the games in my 24 years of life, I'd have to say the most vocal fans ARE too nit-picky, and that some critics out there are only exacerbating the problem.
Here's one suggestion: Take it in stride. Unless the progression is severely broken by bad design choices, I.E. having to collect the medals to unlock new levels in Sonic Unleashed, then try and enjoy it a bit. (I loved Sonic Unleashed, by the way.)
And another: SEGA is not Nintendo. Don't expect them to copy-paste the same idea for each game with slight changes in each. They try to make the formula unique, such as the branching story-lines in Shadow's game, and the dueling levels in Sonic Rivals 1 and 2. And, let's not forget that they got Bioware on their side for Sonic Chronicles, to which I am still grining about today.
I don't see Sonic as being tortured by SEGA or Sonic Team, mostly because I'm the kind of player who likes to explore instead of speed run through everything I own. That aside, I'm looking forwards to Sonic 4 and Sonic Colors.
