Sexual Inequalities: Seperate Yet Equal?

A thought occurred to me last night. Why, in the current world of the 20th Century, do we still have separate bathrooms for men and women? I know, I know, some men and women just are not mature enough to use the same restroom as a member of the opposite sex without starting some form of drama. But this line of reasoning falls apart when you factor in homosexuals. Homosexual men share bathrooms with other men without incident, and homosexual women share bathrooms with other women without incident (at least as far as I am aware). So escapists, tell me. Why do you think we need to have separate bathrooms for men and women?

Added discussion: What do you think it would take for us as a society to reach a point where the sex/sexual orientation of a person makes absolutely no difference in any way?

Haha I don't think we do either.

I mean, at parties we all take a piss in front of whoever happens to be in the bathroom so it's not like we've never done it before.

(We're in the 21st century, just FYI)

Because chicks would annoy us by taking way too long, and we'd annoy them by being wildly inappropriate.

Its just the way its been for years, and changing it now will mean that people who aren't used to it will feel violated.

Its like how a woman is willing to wear a bikini but not a bra and panties, even though they're essentially the same. Underwear is supposed to be hidden because that's how its always been, and bikinis are meant to be seen.

If the bathrooms were unisex the whole time, nobody would mind (I imagine there's a country somewhere that does this). But changing it now would mean this happens: "whoa, dude we can see girls now. We've got to take advantage of these new opportunities".

Also I think men and women are fundamentally different. Men have a better capacity for strength but that doesn't meanwomen are weaker. Both sexes should be given the same opportunities. And women should not bee sen as vulnerable or "untouchable".

Male bathrooms are almost always in a terrible condition, even within minutes after the last cleaning crew went through.
I suppose we can't force women to share in that.

It is just how we've been brought up. I would hope that this would eventually change, but I don't see it happening.

As for homosexuals, it would be too hard to check to see what sexual orientation someone is, so they just have to stick to the bathroom that their gender is associated with.

I doubt men and women would be comfortable sharing changing rooms and restrooms with the opposite sex.
But why should it matter? I mean, if you think about it, you have probably at one point or another shared a changing room or restroom with a homosexual. That should make you just as uncomfortable as sharing it with a member of the opposite sex, if it makes you uncomfortable at all. I know I wouldn't care either way. I'm in there for one reason and one reason only, and it's usually not something most people would find sexy.

OT: I like your new avatar. Really shows the dementia in dDemented Teddy.

No, I want it to stay how it is now. When I go into town their are so many annoying women, who would just act like pricks for no reason if we had to share a bathroom. I'm sorry but no, hell no, I seen to many women who are bitchy and immature for me to be comfortable.

I will admit, theirs just as many men who are the same but that only proves my point.

I'd be in favour of increasing the quality of male bathrooms.

Why should bathrooms coddle the weak?

As it is now it prevents people using the frivolously. You only go when you really need to.

Probably the way to softly integrate it would be to start off certain places with 3 bathrooms. Mens, Womens and Unisex. Since Womens bathrooms have ridiculous lineups, the women who want to get in quicker would choose the unisex one. Men and women who really want privacy would choose the exclusive rooms.

100% guaranteed though you'd have creepy leches in the unisex rooms.

Hell, I dislike sharing bathrooms with my own sex, let along the opposite.

I think we should only look to fix things in areas where one side has a disadvantage over the other, not in areas where both sexes are separate, but get the same deal overall.
That's the important part for me, the rest of the post is ok, but that part there sums up my thoughts on the matter.
So the fewer people use my bathroom, the better.(I'm not picky about bathrooms, I'll even shit/piss on a stack of corps yei *makes hand gesture* high. I'm just really possessive, that's all)

This is it basically although it does depend a bit whether or not this would be included EVERYWHERE or just 18+ type places. but even then i know quite a few immature 18-19 year olds.

Could you imagine in a club, a drunk, off his face guy walks into the bathroom where 2 chicks are doing their make up, that kind of thing could quite quickly get way out of hand.

Are you crazy? Then we'd have only one restroom with a huge queue of females and men are forced to wait too only because women need too much time? I don't think so!

No offence intended but guys seem to be more immature then females in social situations on average.
Also women seem to have higher standards of hygiene.

The state of men's restrooms and the contrast when compared to female restooms wont change until those mindsets do.
Maybe "we can dream" wasn't sarcastic enough. I don't consider this an important issue.

Well, would you rather two have bathrooms with one having a long line or have one large bathroom with one HUGE line in front of it the entire time?

Jokes aside, its fine the way it is.

And its not all about maturity.
Some people, like myself, don't like using the bathroom in public PERIOD.
But being in the same room with people of the same Gender is more comfortable.

And in this case we are separate but still equal.
Though the Men's bathrooms are almost always disgusting....

well if the bathroom is too full you just climb up behind someone and take a crap in the tank.
OT: it's just for people who are too insecure with themselves. Probably feel less likely to get molested by perverts.
