Sexy "Power Armor", am I 'juvenile' for liking it? (a response to recent Kill La Kill concepts)

There's nothing wrong with enjoying something that's immature or juvenile. One of my favorite pasttimes is drawing stupid shit for my own amusement, like this, for example!!
p[

I'd say it only becomes an issue if said juvenile stuff starts becoming your identity and gets in the way of a broader appreciation for things in life. Is it all you ever watch/draw/think about? It's not so much of a problem when you only draw little girls with big tits if it's simply a hobby and something you do for your own enjoyment, but if a career in art is something you're working towards, it doesn't show much in the way of versatility and can make you look single-minded and somewhat limited in creativity.

Another thing is, if you're gonna put your work out there in the public, you have to hold yourself accountable for how it's received. If you're like that dude who only draws semi-naked pictures of Princess Peach and publicly admits how someday she will leap through the Nintendo into his world and they will have a beautiful wedding and everyone on DeviantArt will be invited, then you might want to expect a few raised eyebrows. Either own up to that creepy shit and proudly make it yours, or don't share it online. Of course, showing you have a variety of interests/artistic abilities on top of wanting to draw yourself boning the Princess in Photoshop makes you seem a little less obsessed and can go a long way.

That is my story for the day, and I hope it is of some help. Also, that character is hideous, but yeah. :)

The top's 'mouth' collapses into her butt cheeks.

Take from that what you will.

This was my point. Not exactly practical if all of your vital organs are on display.
to be fair, in most anime having to do with magic powers, your armor by which I mean what actually protects you rather than what you are wearing, seems to be determined more by something intangible like "your will to fight" or something silly like that.

Anyways, a quick google and wiki search gives me:
"takes place in a high school where students possess uniforms that give them various powers and abilities."

and the google image search doesn't look like it's something that's going to spend too much time slow motion panning over naughty bits, spending precious running time.
So ya, I'm totally fine with it now.

Mate, you can like whatever you want.

...

However. Don't you dare refer to that... that as "armor". Just don't.

It's a sex doll outfit. Acknowledge it for what it is.

Well shit, and here I thought the complete non-pandering of Little Witch Academia would somehow bleed over into this new project.

Thanks for reasserting my low opinion of you, modern anime.
Yeah, you'd think it was made by Gainax or something.

Oh wait. It's made by Trigger. AKA the half of Gainax that isn't devoted to Evangelion.

And I wouldn't act so smug about Little Witch Academia. LWA was - to use one of my favorite phrases - 'moe as fuck'. That is just so much fun to say. Moe as fuck. Moe as fuck. Moe as f-

Anyway OP, this particular instance of sexy power armor is okay because Trigger, but I judge you for drawing boobs and if you and Hitler were both drowning, I'd probably save Hitler because I'd want to know how he was alive.

This.

It's fine for you to like that and find it attractive, but it sure as hell is not armor. It barely qualifies as clothing. It's lingerie and nothing will change that.

From an aesthetic standpoint it's quite well done and there's no problem with liking it. From a character design standpoint it's horribly done unless that character is a prostitute. That thing looks like it's gonna have to frequently defy many, many, many laws of physics just to keep her nipples covered up.

Basically, its fine for you to like that lingerie, but from a character design standpoint it's really bad.

Personally, I find the design to be a bit dumb, but given context it may be okay. I think I'll hold off judgement for now. It also could quite easily be a great series despite the pandering nature of this character design, assuming that the design isn't actually fitting.

I just think it looks stupid. And I'd like to add that while I find the design (very) juvenile, that is not the same thing as thinking that you are.

I would like to know what the intent was in designing the costume though.

That isn't armour, it's a pandering sexual fantasy.
Exactly. One bullet to the stomach and she is down. Kinda makes all that armour pointless as its just slower her down, might as well not wear it with such an obvious target area to aim for.

Well, if that's someones idea of protective power armor, then yeah, I think it says a lot about the quality of the show. I'm not starting a sexism debate, as I've burned out on that, so that's not the point I'm trying to make. What I'm saying is that they are clearly prioritizing fanservice over functionality, and in my experience when someone does that it reflects the low quality of a show. If a creator puts painstaking detail into a believable piece of armor because they want their show to be as realistic as possible, then that typically reflects a stronger work ethic, which in turn means there's probably going to be a stronger narrative.

That said, this doesn't have to Neon Genesis. You said it may be a parody of other shows, and if that's the case then yes, this could be really good and funny. If they try to tell a dark and serious story with characters dressed like that, however, then no, it probably won't work. Since it hasn't come out yet there's no way to know, but if I had to guess why people are skeptical then that would probably be why.

I believe the intent was "PEW PEW DIRECTED BY HIROYUKI IMAISHI KABOOM FWOOOOSH KA-CHING BANG BANG KABOOM VWOOOOOOOOM CRASH".

I think that's what it said in the production notes. My Japanese is a little shaky though.

But seriously, I have a very short list of people involved with anime who I pretty much give carte blanche to do fucking whatever. They're basically all off-the-wall people like Imaishi who...well...made Gurren Lagann. And this seems to be...Gurren Lagann. Only with girls and no mechs (yet). You can pretty much get away with anything by saying "it's like Gurren Lagann except __________".

The other person who can get away with anything, if you're curious, is Nisio Isin.

Lets say that you are guilty as much as that thing is an armour. As in not.

And what is with the high heels? I don't see any guns sticking out of them so their existence completelely baffles me.

If a magic amulet can prevent you from being charred by magma then such clothing can have sentience, protect you from bullets, give you flight and fire plasma beams from your fingertips. Technology is usually - and definitely here - nothing but an aesthetic wallpaper to be able to do whatever the writer needs done, essentially magic/deus ex machina.

Once you start decorating overly naked girls with doodads you are going to have a problem, not to even suggest that this is much more than a libido-service. That armour is nothing more than an excuse for having mostly nude girls on screen.

I understand the adoration of tools rather than the users, but sadly the world does not.

Yeah. I don't see the need for people to justify what they like.

If you like it, then continue liking it; as long as what you like isn't illegal or harmful to others or yourself, feel free to like whatever you want.

This, you usually post my thoughts before I do.

You can think it's sexy and enjoy the design but call a spade a spade, don't pretend it's all about context, when it's all about the under-boob.

I honestly don't mind the designs. They aren't my favorite. But it's Japan. People might say that's not an excuse. And they are right. It's a reason.

Things most of us do on a daily basis that are accepted where we are would probably earmark us as horrible people in Japan. In other cultures as well. Different values, different ideas. Knowing their market. All of that goes into account in anything that's produced for the masses' consumption. They knew a lot would eat this up. I won't be surprised to see cosplay of this.

The biggest problem isn't the fact that you like this, OP (Can I call you 'OP'? I think we've developed a familiar rapport here). The problem is that people try to put morality in what we purchase. You shouldn't wonder if it's ok to like something that you happen to like as long as it's not hurting anyone. I doubt you're going to watch this show and say "You know what? This show has girls with mid-drift showing... All women are not equal to me and are only for sex". I don't think your opinion or value of women will change because you saw an animation.

Honestly, I feel a lot of this rage comes from the fact that drawings and games can come close to 'perfection' (ie, characters designed without 'flaws') that people start so to feel so inferior compared to it. I know I did. I'm the BIGGEST fighting game lover, and growing up I compared my body to Ryu all the time. And felt really shitty. That got me to the gym to work out, but we all have our own different ways of dealing with things. Some people must ban unrealistic representations of the human form.

Let it be known that the designs are pandering, though. In my opinion, There's little value to the 'armor' other than the color scheme. Given that it's high school girls, I'm nigh sure the suits are magical by nature so there's probably a good reason why a person can survive attacks with so much skin showing. Is it tasteful? Not in my esteem. Will we be set back years because of it? Not hardly. But just as you have full license to love it, others have full license to hate it.

The most important thing you must do is whether the storm and be fine with what you like. 7 billion people we're dealing with. I'm sure that there are people out there who will yell at you for brushing your teeth wrong. Be the best person you can be, give others the respect you wish to receive, and treat yourself with liking what you like without qualms.

If I liked it I wouldn't give a shit what random internet folk think, I'll tell you that much. Why would you allow anyone to dictate adulthood to you?
This is the problem with the interconnected world today. We see so much hate via the interwebs about anything you like that most people tend to fear that liking something is akin to saying you're one of those horrible people you hear about. If you don't mind looking at sexy women, you're a chauvinist. If you don't have a hundred black friends and know the plight of black people, you're an ethnocentric jerk. If you don't mind gay people but the idea of gay sex creeps you out, you're a closeted homophobe.

Everyone takes everything to extremes that most people are now being brainwashed to thinking everything is probably bad somehow.

If stupid looking power armor was a sin to like, then I'd have quit liking Warhammer 40K long ago. Marines get brick shithouses, while Sisters of Battle get a space corset. Despite that, it still looks like armor. Must be the pauldrons. They make anything look like armor.
Come on, be fair. As a fellow fan, you KNOW the reason for that.

The first geneseed was made by the Emperor, from his lost primarchs. They are capable only with a XY pairing. And the power armor was used to enhance what strength they had, but at the same time needed considerable strength to wear. Not to mention the ability to make such things are a closely kept secret by each Chapter.

Although, if the Sisters of Battle sucked up to the Techpriests, maybe they could get real armor.

... My Geek card is positively glowing right now. I need to go tackle something before I lose all manliness.

Ironic considering the power armor sexual fantasy in question is a bad breeze or two from becoming child porn. Boosh.

Despite my general belief of "Burn All Weeaboos", I kinda like that armor design. Mostly what I like is the concept and color scheme. Remove the underboob and put the thong inside the skirt (who's idea was that!?) and I'd be much more down.

well that outfit is just not armor. its more like a weird piece from some weird designer that you would only see on the catwalk. any girl who wears that in a battle has to fall victim to darwinism (too stupid to live). so if the intent was not to make a character who is a girl who sets sexyness over her own survival, then the creator kinda failed and I declare victory of his testicles over his brain (thats your brain - and thats your brain on testicles)

Its nothing bad liking the look, just allways remember, thats a girl who probably doesnt know what a redlight means.

on a different note

also some guys like the thought of a woman in heavy armor, like being allowed to peel her out of it, alone...
