Shadow of the Eternals Reboots Kickstarter July 25th

The beleaguered horror game gets a second go at the crowdsourcing trough.

Back in May, Precursor Games attempted to Kickstart the episodic horror game Shadow of the Eternals, a spiritual successor to the classic Eternal Darkness. However, ties to the controversial [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125038-Dyack-Acknowledges-Personal-Noise-Put-Kibosh-On-Eternals]Denis Dyack[/a] and a developer arrested for [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125522-Precursor-Games-Founder-Arrested-For-Child-Porn]child pornography[/a] quickly [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124619-Shadow-of-the-Eternals-Studio-Cancels-Kickstarter]sunk[/a] its funding efforts. After taking a step back and rethinking its plans, Precursor Games is going to give it another go and launch a [a href=http://www.precursorgames.com/shadowoftheeternals/news/]second Kickstarter[/a] on July 25th.

"Your feedback has been instrumental in many ways throughout the process of creating the new campaign", Precursor CEO Paul Caporicci [a href=http://www.precursorgames.com/shadowoftheeternals/pre-launch-update-3/]announced[/a] on the official site. Back when Precursor halted its original efforts, Caporicci said that it would return with a "host of new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned". Presumably, those new details will come out on July 25th when the new campaign starts.

It's been over a decade since Silicon Knights released Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the Gamecube. Composed largely of ex-Silicon Knights developers, Precursor games aims to develop the episodic game for the PC and WiiU.

we'll see how this goes. I think they were a little too ambitious with their funding goal last time, so maybe they'll adjust that. They do have an uphill battle going for them with how Dyack has gained a rep as being an egomaniac, but maybe they'll pull. I personally think Eternal Darkness didn't really work as a horror game (I found its psychological shenanigans to be more irritating than scary), but I can get why people liked it. Anyway, let's see how this goes down.

I was kind of turned off by their last kickstarter due to the 'horror' stuff involving generic hellscapes. You can say what you want about ED being scary or not, but it stayed away from that kind of imagery for the more exotic lovecraftian.

If they've fired Dyack, maybe I'll fund it. Not otherwise.
The guy is poison for any project he's involved in, and there's no good reason for them too keep him on.

I might be wrong but I distinctly remember reading that he was fired upon the kiddie porn charges. Has he actually been found guilty yet? Haven't heard much about it since, and my sense of time is pretty warped right now so I can't remember exactly how long ago it was.

That wasn't Denis Dyack. It was Ken McCulloch who was arrested for the kiddy porn

OT:I'm kinda hoping it's successful this time. It's been 11 years now since ED was released so it's high time we saw a sequel/spiritual successor. That said I'm also doubtful as Nintendo have no input this time ans supposedly they were quite hands on during the development of ED

i think you guys are a little mistaken on SoTE's take on the psychological side of the table, one of the main things that precursor has been striving for is the sanity events of the game, if you need any proof its all in the forums

you guys can find them right here.

http://www.precursorgames.com/forums/index.php
inside the Ordinem De Non Visis section of the forums
you can access them by just clicking the i will pledge check box in the account creation.

i realize this might be a little complicated of a example and a bit of a reach coming from a outsider, but if you really want to see the best part of this game which is the mind blowing content thats being posted, then we welcome you with open arms to the forums!

Can this game survive the massively negative PR that its company is steeped in? Hard to say. They seem like such a hit a miss crew of gamemakers, and its been so damn long since Eternal Darkness was release. We'll have to see.
