Shadowrun Returns Goes DRM Free

This new DRM policy will go for Berlin, and all future expansions.

It's always great to have a good Kickstarter, and Shadowrun Returns [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/10507-Shadowrun-Returns-Review] exceeded expectations, raising over $1.8 million when Harebrained Studios only asked for a measly $400,000. Well, there are consequences when you go as far as that, and one of the consequences for this title is that it's now DRM free. Completely and utterly, and that goes for Berlin and all future expansions, says Harebrained.

This is thanks to a deal the developers hammered out with Microsoft. "The DRM-free versions of SRR and Berlin will continue to be fully supported," says Harebrained. "You'll be able to download all game patches, use the Shadowrun Returns editor and experience user-generated content downloaded from third-party sites such as Nexus."

There are also plans to take it to GOG, but there's no telling when that will happen. At the moment, if you want this one [http://harebrained-schemes.com/shadowrun/shadowrun-returns-gallery/], it's Steam - Mac and PC - iOS, or Android; but that will be changing, by the sound of things.

About freaking time. It should've been like this from the start, and Microsoft are cunts for not allowing them to do so.

Well, hopefully Berlin will sweeten the fairly bitter response I've seen to Shadowrun Returns.
It hasn't picked up traction, for a number of reasons (short hyper linear campaign; lots of useless mechanics, poor coding and planning in a number of places like the save system).

Dead Man's Switch was a good introduction to the lore. But it really needed to let the player stretch their legs.

after playing through it i will say it felt alot like someone had directly converted one of the old tabletop adventures
Yeah, normally that would be a good thing, except in the tabletop the players have a number of ways to approach a situation, including the option to walk away. Most of which are very difficult to incorporate into a computer program.

A hub system would help that a lot, similar to how the older Shadowrun Video games did.
Though that takes a lot of effort. Far more than what went into Dead Man's Switch.

Shadowrun Returns was a disappointment to me. I thought I was going to get a game comparable to the Sega Genesis Shadowrun. Instead what came was a 6 hour campaign with limited choices and a reliance on community made scenarios. For $20. Was not impressed considering Shadowrun's founder was involved.
