Basically this... and I remember when the Disney Channel was showcasing the episodes of Shawn the Sheep...

Other than that, I not too surprised that this movie is good... the same way that, just like the show for me, it's not that memorable after viewing it despite it being really good in general...

Great to know animators aren't giving up on stop animation. Heck the Lego Movie was amazing too and had this production played out in stop animation (mostly).

LEGO Movie was CG. It looked stop motion, but it was CG.

Its Shaun the Sheep, not Shawshank Redemption. Plot was never really going to be a strong point.

You mean The Pirates! Band of Misfits, as it's called in my country? Yeah, that movie was awesome! (Kinda wish it was more well-known among my peers, though...)

I didn't know it had an international export name... is that because Johnny Foreigners don't like extra exclaimation marks?

You are right though... it has an annoyingly small fanbase. Which is a shame as it was what Aardman Studios were banking on to regain the losses from the factory fire! (Their entire studio, sets and backlog of models were lost.)

Nah... Johnny Foreigners just loves "better-sounding" movie titles, especially for a "children's movie"...

Also, oh shit! I did not know about the fire! (And now The Pirates!'s an up-in-coming cult hit just waiting to happen instead of a regular hit-turn-classic like Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit...)

That this is stop-motion surprises me. Didn't these guys spend major dollars for a CG engine that carefully replicates stop-motion for Flushed Away? Seems like kind of a waste.

Oh yeah, just like the newer Cheveron Techron commercials. I still remember the old stop-motion ones.

My only quibble with this review was the needless dumping on Minions again. It's like that movie is going to be to Mater what Man of Steel was to MovieBob.

Saying the movie has "little substance" is a bit misleading. Every shot is jam-packed with clever happenings and references that a lot of kids aren't going to get and that you need to watch 2 or 3 times to discover. I've seen it twice and discovered just as many new things the second time around. The plot is simple, but that only works to the film's advantage. It's better than the series and among the best stop-motion movies I've seen, along with Coraline. It's also better and funnier than anything Pixar has ever done.
