I don't think it's been fixed yet. Your first link leads to this: http://www.wisegeek.com/is-it-really-illegal-to-display-the-swastika-symbol-in-germany.htm Was this intentional?

Sherlock is okay I guess. I can see why people like it but I'm not really into the mystery/suspense stuff so I couldn't get into it. I can't imagine why CBS would think we'd want another one.

You've got the US "Holmes", he's called House MD.
An American Red Dwarf... *shudders*

Anyway, as much as I hate to see an American remake of such a brilliant and recent success that is Moffat's Sherlock. I would like to see it made so I can utterly laugh at it.

We understand that CBS are doing their own version of an updated Sherlock Holmes. It's interesting, as they approached us a while back about remaking our show.

At the time, they made great assurances about their integrity, so we have to assume that their modernised Sherlock Holmes doesn't resemble ours in any way, as that would be extremely worrying.

We are very proud of our show and like any proud parent, will protect the interest and wellbeing of our offspring.
Even if said offspring is actually the child of Arthur Conan Doyle, not the BBC, and has been in the public domain for decades now...

I dunno. As a fan of the original stories, I wasn't all that enamoured with Sherlock. Cool idea, and the acting was mostly good, but as a crime show I feel it was pretty lacklustre. And they completely botched Moriarty from being a cool Godfather-type lord of the Underworld ("The Napolean of crime") into some annoying Joker knock off, complete with Ho-Yay fixation on the hero.
Tbh I thought Moriarty worked. Admittedly I'm not overly familiar with Conan Doyle's version but for me an extremely unhinged man who commits crimes just for the thrill and challenge of it is much scarier than somebody just looking to maintain an ultimate crime empire. Plus he is a great foil for the equally unhinged Sherlock. The series has a clear interest in mental health issues with Watson's psychosomatic (is that the right word) tremor and Sherlocks own inability to interact socially so it seems only fitting that Moriarty be the way he is.

That said I do get the Joker comparisons but hey the lunatic villian has been around much longer than that.

As long as Robert Downey Jr. has absolutely NOTHING to do with this version, It could be good.
I wonder who they WILL get to play the definitive detective.
You know what's really funny? Downey's portrayal of Sherlock in the first movie was the closest portrayal of the book Sherlock yet done in the visual medium. The second movie gets a bit squirrely, but made up for it with Stephen Fry as Mycroft.
Yeah, no. No, he isn't. Don't get me wrong, I like the Guy Ritchie films, but they do ham up the physicality of it all. I know Holmes in the books wasn't afraid to punch someone in the face or even shoot them if he had to but Downey Jr. really turns it up to eleven. Just as BBC's Sherlock turns the asperger's angle up to eleven. I'd say the closest would probably be Jeremy Brett

EDIT: ...and apparently j-e-f-f-e-r-s. agrees with me :p

So instead of one modern day Sherlock Holmes show? We get two? Most likely with interesting cultural differences due to being made in different countries? I completely fail to see how this is anything other than a win.
Except with a an Americanised version of London which is always hilarious to watch.... unless they decide that Holmes is American now.....

Or that he's in America....

Or that he's not actually a detective but a medical doctor and instead of cocaine he's addicted to vicodin... Oh wait.

Would it cost CBS more money to license Sherlock and bring it over to american shores instead of making a completely Copied series with terrible american english actors?
i read about this story somewhere else, and NBC already does that. the new season is coming to the US in March i think... its a good one too.

Don't mention the US Red Dwarf remake. It was an abomination that should not be spoken of.

What is it with America remaking amazing British tv shows and (usually) making them terrible. The Office springs to mind.

just watch something by hbo, its guaranteed to be closer to what your looking for than what most u.s networks churn out. (the wire is the absolute proof of this, but the channels drama line up is consistently strong)

just a suggestion who would rather see a fellow good television fans time better spent :)
Is it HBO? I'm pretty sure it's NBC that's showing Sherlock in the US...

Seems America just takes alot of the British shows and makes their own versions. America really is still the stupid child of the Empire family, copying it's parent for what he/she does. The only thing it can do on it's own are bad reality TV and afew sitcoms. Except HBO, they're pretty damn inventive, hell they're a shining star.

Also CBS made CSI so it can be killed in the must brutal fashion, than used as a season finale. Than we'll never have to see it again. : D

Now I'm going to go watch reruns of Corner Gas, still better than 95% of the crap America ships up to Canada.

May I add Shameless to that list?

There seems to be an epidemic in recent American releases that are just rehashes of older/other current material.
Don't forget Skins, The Office and Being Human.

I predict a run of about 3 episodes before it's cancelled so no need to worry anyway.

This reminds me of the time JMS approached Paramount or whatever TV network/channel owned the Star Trek franchise with his take on a new SciFi show - Babylon 5 - and he had a 5 year series arc, a show bible, backstory, sketches and stories etc.

They took his material, then said "nah, we don't want this" and he went off to another network... then shortly afterwards we get Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. hmmmm coincidence!

(DS9 was a great show, as it happens, with all the various caveats that come with the Trek universe, but it was certainly not something they came up with on their own).
