I have been interested in this game and I was wondering if I should get it? I have played other space 4X games like Galactic Civilizations II, Sword of the Stars, Sins of a Solar Empire, Endless Space, Master of Orion II. I was wondering if I should play this one?

I feel much the same way. I guess it just goes to show what resolutely sticking to your guns can do: neither the gaming generation that grew up inundated with demos nor the one that grew up inundated with crazy sales is willing to bite. Pandora: First Contact ended up being a far better successor to Alpha Centauri than Beyond Earth did, Slitherine; we'll meet you halfway- but you've got to throw us a bone here!

If you feel that you can afford it, you should definitely give it a try.

The major distinction between DW:U and other 4X games is the scope really.
It really feels like a living galaxy.

It's real-time but pausable (Like Stardrive).
You can put any part of the game from ship design to diplomacy to colonization on automatic.
You can even focus on controlling just one ship (or none) and let the AI deal with the rest.
Every race has different goals, tech, planet habitations, stance, ships and traits.

Spacesector has a good review Here.

For reference, my favorite 4X games are;
Sword of the Stars, Space Empire IV, Master of Orion III (yes, 3..), Distant Worlds: Universe and Imperium Galactica 2.
Endless space and Armada 2526 Supernova are fun but lack that something.

I've played almost all 4X games out there. ,)

You could also wait for Predestination, M.O.R.E or Stardrive 2 to come out.

It's actually really good!

Complicated, and quite expensive, but, if you've the liking for that kind of game, it's a really good one.

Automation can reduce the complexity, and on your first run, I'd suggest leaving some things automated.

Gradually work towards controlling everything yourself.

I too have been eyeing the game for months since I discovered it but the 60 dollar price tag gives me pause before buying it. It seems to be the exact kind of game I want in a 4x space game, but I am leery after Stardrive...well, did something unspeakable in the bed, then proceeded to tell me that I'd done it, and needs to buy him new sheets...but it was my bed in the first place...and he just had Indian food...

Well, that went weird...

IMO it's too expensive for what you get. Yes it's a good game and sure it has expansions, but it came out in 2010 and they price hasn't came down enough.

If that's not an issue then yes, get it. If you like 4X games you should enjoy it a lot. The large scope, adjustable automation and suggestions makes you feel more like a galactic ruler than some omnipotent entity controlling everything.
