Should we stop the democracy experiment?

I have noticed that democracy is by far, in my opinion, the best political set up. However, shall we try and find a different way of working, not far left, not far right, but something that would work.
If we look at democracy and other current political set-ups, we can see people take advantage of it, and this is the downfall of all governments and political ideals. Anyway, has anyone got a political idea that could work in the UK or USA?

I think leadership by tombola - the names of everyone in the country are put into a giant hat, and one is selected at random. That person then gets to lead the country as they see fit for a year.

No, we cant just make a u-turn and try something else now. Our capitalist societies are made for our brand of democracy. Leave it the way it is.
Agreed. It's not perfect, but it's the best we can do.

It is said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried.

All Democracy devolves into an unsustainable socialism when people realize that they can vote to give themselves free shit they didn't earn. Democracy is very nice while it's working properly, but it will always fall apart.

I think it's time to look for something more stable that sacrifices as little as possible in the way of civil rights.

Democracy is better in theory than in practice. Majorities, minorities, seats, transferable votes? MADNESS!

While I don't particularly see democracy as the perfect political system, one way to improve it would be to stimulate long-run planning. Elections are every 4 years nowadays, which provides incentives to focus on short-run policies.

I would love to see the day that people mutually agree on a not-too-far-left/right wing government, but it just isn't going to happen any day soon.

Democracy is totally useless... So yeah, we should definitely try something else.

Either Anarchy or Communism.

Or some other form of democracy, like direct-democracy.

^This.

Or maybe, an all out brawl. This means that the fattest politicians die.

I think that a democratic system is the best type to have. I also think the system we have is flawed and in need of polish. The biggest flaw I see with our current system is that it is very much a short term thinking system. I am yet to hear a politician seriously purpose a long term plan(> 30 years) for anything other than the more recent climate change issue. Even this issue has not gotten anywhere note worthy. Our current system of democracy is locked into short term thinking (< 5 years).

The idea of Democracy is great, but it tends to fall down when as large concentrations of humans tend to be extremely stupid. I was once told that the way to tell the average IQ of a group was to take the highest IQ in the group and divide it by the number of people in the group. This is a very bad problem for this governing strategy.

Either that or Capitalism, which in my opinion is much worse.

Capitalism is the only self-sustainable economic system at this point in time. Socialisms always lose money at an alarming rate and experience very little industrial growth unless a very steady flow of outside money can be arranged for. As we automate more, increased socialism will become more and more practical, but unfortunately the very people who would benefit the most from socialism are preventing this transition by pushing for socialism too early.

Communism, on the other hand, is a joke that will never work as long as humans are animals.

My opinion on the matter is that every government fails because people are not perfect. But, if people were perfect, the perfect government would be none at all.
