One thing Americans, and a lot of governments, need to know is that republic=/=democracy. Seriously, what's with all the talk about America being a democracy?

I think of Athens as an imperfect form of the ideal government and state. A direct democracy, intellectual, cultural, and generally a good place to live. It's imperfections are just things like misogyny and racism, lack of the secret ballot, and maybe some technological things, and that's mostly just the time they lived in. We should be more like Athens, only everyone can vote and ballots are secret.

Semi-socialism could work if governmental bodies weren't on the whole the single least competent things on the planet (and I am not exaggerating...kind of). Not "government controls all means of production" but "government offers some services and, you know, regulates the economy".

Communism, if everyone worked to make it work, but we have people in this country who don't even know what it is and hate it because "we're capitalist and communism is the enemy". On topic, I'm in favour of communism and socialism personally, but however, humanity can't handle it (for now, at least). Human instinct makes people think of life as a competition (survival of the fittest it used to be referred to as), people compete and always want more than each other. The result being a society where everyone is treated equally would never work, as people will always want more than each other. This usually results in the politicians being forced to favour a certain class or section of society (In the Soviet Union, politicians were favoured) and therefore, they're not being socialist and equal. This means that people become outraged at this unfairness, politicians deny it and may even kill people who stand against them and they suddenly have a hierarchy, with people supporting the politicians and the people the politicians support at the top and people against the leaders at the bottom. And they then start to fall apart and become the very thing they stood against.

Technically, no country has ever been communist as a result, and until humanity gets rid of this need for more than everyone else, running a communist society will be impossible. That's why for now, I'm in favour of democracy.

There is no perfect government as mankind is extremely flawed in nature. The only thing that would work perfectly in my mind is, everyone does what the want for free, because they have a passion for that profession and helping others, no one gets greedy, and everyone shares and helps others, for no other reason then to do so. Just make everyone take an Xtreme intelligence and personality test, and draft them to be in a big non-lethal survival of the fittest match and keep eliminating until the best person is chosen. What I'm proposing is that it starts in schools, and the people who are consistently the best, who exhibit leadership in school, and on mandatory outdoor trips, would be essentially be put in a big improve yourself organisation, and when thye were 40, the best person would become the leader.

All Democracy devolves into an unsustainable socialism when people realize that they can vote to give themselves free shit they didn't earn. Democracy is very nice while it's working properly, but it will always fall apart.

The only way to prevent that is to restrict voting rights to people who are educated about the law and politics, have an understanding of history, and are able to think critically for themselves.

Even if we provided free education specifically geared to this "voting rights test" and anyone was welcomed and you could get as much free tutoring as you wanted, I doubt more than 25% (at MOST) would succeed or even try.

The problem with that is the few will essentially rule the many. So restricted voting will lead to an aristocratic totalitarian regime just as surely as unchecked voting will drag us down into socialism.

Both of those options suck pretty hard. :\

The only utopian idea is if instead of elected leaders, everyone would vote on individual issues insted of trying to elect the least retarded party who have their own agenda, and then blame the voters for there own mistakes.

However this would never work because human kind as a whole is to thick to make any major decition. Maybe the IQ voting limit would be a good idea but it would be impossible to regulate. The IQ system is a hugely flawed anyway.
