Shovel Knight Confirmed For Nintendo Switch With New Content

Alongside the Switch version, some big changes are coming to Shovel Knight, allowing players to purchase individual campaigns as stand-alone games.

Some really big news from Yacht Club Games [http://yachtclubgames.com/2017/01/switch-up/] regarding everyone's favorite shovel-wielding knight today. Not only is Shovel Knight making its way to the Nintendo Switch, its also getting a major overhaul, which includes plenty of new content, and a new way for players to purchase individual campaigns.

Basically, as it stands right now, if you own Shovel Knight you get all of its DLC for free, including the Plague of Shadows [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/142339-Shovel-Knight-Plague-of-Shadows-Release-on-All-Platforms-September-17] campaign released last year. When the overhaul happens, players who already own Shovel Knight will be "upgraded" to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove while new players will have to purchase Treasure Trove at an increased price point or purchase each of the game's individual campaigns separately.

Confused? I was too. There's a Q & A [http://yachtclubgames.com/shovel-knight-treasure-trove-qa/] but it doesn't help too much, and is missing some key information such as when exactly this shift will happen, and how much the new Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and the individual campaigns will cost.

Additionally, the game's Body Swap Mode is complete and will be included as a free update, as will local two-player co-op (for all versions except 3DS and Vita).

Read all about it here [http://yachtclubgames.com/2017/01/switch-up/].

I have to say, Shovel Knight looks rather good in green.

So the takeaway I'm getting from this is "if you bought it before this upgrade, you get it for free, but if not you have to pay for it." I think that's a fair move. I mean FFS Shovel Knight is a year and a half old by this point and is on pretty much every major platform out there. Pretty much everyone who wanted it already has it. Also the body swap mode is coming out? YES! FUCKING FINALLY! I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THAT FOR SO FREAKING LONG!

Shovel Knight is awesome. If the switch were to get secondsies, this is a pretty good one to have. Can't hate.

New generation console will get 3-year-old game, but now you can pay extra to access previously free content. Really selling it well there Nintendo.

It was released in June 2014. Rather more than a year and a half old now, and the Switch isn't even out yet.

You guys do know that there's a presentation in like 9 hours right? Can't we wait until then before we make crazy assumptions? I mean, I know this is Nintendo so any news means they're doomed but really.
