Examples: Spyro the Dragon, Super Mario Galaxy.
Basically I like platform games that are non linear. The best ones set you in a homeworld without bad guys, just some collectables and a bunch of portals. Portals which lead to the individual levels which have most of the gameplay.
One of the best parts is the way it allows all the levels to have a distinctive theme, also the way they can be revisited to pick up whatever you missed last time.
