I am currently speechless, 1 second...

I've just watched the latest episode of Skins, and I can safely say it is the most depressing thing I have watched in a long time. The end of the episode caught me completely offguard.

To everyone on the escapist, how did you find the episode, and what's your opinion on Skins in general?

And also
Do you think there is a twist, or did freddie actually get killed with a baseball bat?

Yeah, the ending surprised me too.
It wasn't as depressing as some of the other episodes though. [sub]*cough* Cook[/sub]

And no, I'm pretty sure it's what it looks like.

Edit: I love Skins, though the last series was much better.

The most nihilistic, misanthropic, depressing show I've ever seen.

Series 1 was funny and enjoyable, but since they tried to go all edgy it's just blatant shock exploitation.

Series 3 and 4 were just grim, and the characters weren't half as likeable as the first batch.

I disagree absolutely with that sentence.

The third and fourth series do seem much more depressing than the previous, I don't like it as much. Twins balance it out though so I still watch it.

Obviously there is a twist, Tony got hit by a bus and was at least alive, I doubt Freddie is dead.

Skins is pretty bad, I much prefer Shameless, but I watch both anyway.

"and the thing that disturbed me the most is that it seemed real, like that could happen to anyone."

Are you fucking kidding?

The ending was stupid, pointless and the only thing that happened in the entire episode!

How did we go from JJ's (he and Cook have arguably the best 2 episodes each) great episode to such utter shit.

Totally out of character for the show; the writers have lost the fucking plot.

Skins should be based in reality but slightly exaggerated over people's real lives so that it connects with more people - that's why characters in shows suffer 3,000,000 different tragedies and relationships in 2 series worth.

This was the worst ending (and contender for worst episode) to any Skins episode yet. Seriously, who sat in the writing group (or whatever they do), thought "hey, let's do Hannibal Lecter minus the cannibalism with zero build up or real reasoning" and believed it to be a good idea?

A total sucker punch.

EDIT: Oh, and another thing!

WHY did Cook break out of prison when he'd just spent his entire episode turning himself around and becoming a "new" guy?

Its not character development if they just go back to how they were straight after!

Believe it or not I have actually quite enjoyed the series up to this point.

This last episode has just gotten me majorly fucked off.

I agree completely, I want them to make every episode like JJ's episode. I loved it.

I didn't even watch series 4, they lost me when Cook arrived on the show. I hate him so much that it stops me watching it because I want to punch his stupid face.

The first season episode where they crash the party was like a completely different show... so funny and real and with characters that you cared about, despite their flaws.

That
murder
scene was just pure exploitative shit.

ive liked this series actually
i mean the first 2 episodes were utter shite
and it's generally been more depressing
but it's still a helluva lot better than most of what's currently on tv, and considerably moreso than series 3

maybe not 1 and 2 standards, but still good
the problem is they shot themselves in the feet in series 3 by having such bleak boring characters so there's not much they can do with them
there's no tony or chris

cook's great, but he had to mature, that was the whole point of before and after he was arrested (though yeah, breaking out seemed weird after the whole reconciliation point of the episode but meh)

also, that ending completely caught me off
throughout the whole episode i actually thought it would turn out that the doctor was molesting effy while she was in her trances, turned out he was just batshit mental

interesting to see how they'll resolve it all in the course of one episode

Agreed that the show's changed in nature (although I think you've forgotten quite how miserable, albeit very good, series 2 was).

I like the new bunch a lot actually, and the acting (whilst not bad in series 3) has improved considerably this series. The writing has also been pretty solid (JJ's episode the other week had some genuinely funny moments, and it was a joy to watch) but episode 7...

ARGH.

Whilst some people may not have been too happy with what seemed to be the overall story of Cook-Freddie-Effy, at least the finale had been built up to properly.

Now they've got to shovel in every character's hanging story-thread, and focus on a situation that everyone hates and that has been shoe-horned in for no reason whatsoever.

The ending to episode 7 actually made me feel sick given how out of place and disturbing it was.
