This is the game that doesn't end,
Yes, it goes on and on my friend,
Some people started playing it not knowing what it was
But they'll continue playing it forever just because...

Awwwwwwwwww yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

I installed the game yesterday, it's been mocking me ever since, and I'm getting way too excited. 4 hours and 36 mins to last forever.

Does that mean we <url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comics/namegame/9203-Name-Game-The-Never-Ending-Game>DO get to ride Falcore?
Cuz that would be AWESOME!
I was hoping that we'd get to kill Falcore... then eat that delicious looking stuff on his belly that looks like corn.
Mmmm: Corn.
As a kid I thought it was exposed fat tissue from underneath his skin. Always made the damn thing look rather icky to me.

I got Skyrim yesterday and I wasn't too enamored with it. The lighting engine gives off some funky shadows.
Maybe it's his brood waiting to hatch.
Mmmm. Popcorn.

Got it early? I would expect it to be visually glitchy but hows the gameplay?
What platform did you get it for?
I like their games but I have a ps3 (which, in my experience, gets crappy ports from Bethesda) so I'm going to wait for the obligatory "big patch" that we're sure to see anywhere from 2-6 months from now...then get it for the pc. And depending on how busy I am (I'll have a lot going on and those games are really involving), I might just wait for goty.
I got it on PS3 and I haven't had too many problems interms glitches, except for the occasional npc disappearing into thin air. Nothing game breaking though. There's actually a pretty fun glitch if you get smashed by a giant's hammer, causing you're corpse to get launched atleast 300 feet into the air.

Gameplay took some getting used to, but only because the V.A.T.S. mechanic from the Fallout games was still hard-wired into my brain, and I started off as an all-marksman character. But as a sorcerer I'm pretty much smoking tail all over the place.

...Love raising those corpses from the dead.
I was constantly doing that in Oblivion. Even when I didn't need them...sometimes just for company.

I actually find glitches like the 300ft launch kind of fun. Those don't bother me at all. I've been hearing about all sorts of other problems: menus not responding, getting stuck in the environment, quests locked by unenterable areas, and things like that. That kind of stuff and crashes are what have been worrying me.

Now all they need is the eat/poop/sleep bar with the Sims and people will never leave their houses ever again (assuming someone provides a constant flow of pizza)
LOL oh yes, that would be endlessly addictive. and you level up while playing too!

Sounds like it'll just be a lot of grind to me, these random, procedural quests, but I could always be wrong.

This is grim news indeed.

I already canceled all social events, plans, and careers that I may have had for the next year so I could play this game uninterrupted. It appears, though, that I've underestimated Skyrim...

Gonna need to find a bigger bucket

So wait, that post a while back that talked about a speedrun done in less than 2 hours or so, is it bull, then? Because I noticed two things: The mentioned a "series of main plots" and and endless game. So...no such thing as speedruns in this game?
It was a speedrun of the main quest line.

I'm not sure how much of the previous Elder scrolls series you've played, but the main quest line is like 2-3% of the game. There's various factions and such that have quest lines that are about the same length
Ah, that explains a lot. I've only played Oblivion and just the main plot...kinda. Never even finished it; kinda overwhelming for me.

Well, that's good to know. Maybe if it's ever at a super cheap price and I find myself out of games, I might buy Skyrim. At least it will be worth the money considering it never ends.

I haven't had any real problems like that... yet.

I did have one mission glitch where I was supposed to kill this bandit leader, but before I even got close enough to make him out he apparently fell off a cliff and died. However, I didn't really mind since I felt it added a nice touch of random chaos - even powerful warlords can slip, you know?

This sounds great, but tbh I prefer quality over quantity. In rpgs we've already had infinite Random Encounters in JRPGS and (as the article pointed out) practically infinite procedurally generated dungeons in Daggerfall. The problem with them both is that after a while it becomes a bit of a grind.

It wouldn't be very smooth to have "Help me now" type missions
It would be pretty interesting to see how the world turns out after a while of playing though. But really I don't see the need for these never-ending quests however I hope they look into random spawning of superbeasts every now and then so the game doesn't lose all it's challenge after the bosses are gone.

Randomly generated quests? IMO thats just lazy programming to create stuff that will have no setpieces and no bearing on the world in general. I'm personally disgusted that Bethesda would lower themselves to such a practice.

Shovelware quests, if you like...
I know I came to this party really late, but it's not like they didn't put other stuff into the game.

Once you complete the hundreds of quests and little odd jobs, you'll be able to enjoy procedurally generated cookie cutter quests.
