Skyrim - Is it a glitch, or does the fire look lackluster?

So I was playing skyrim on day one, and the first thing I noticed was that fire wasn't that detailed. I don't know if its a glitch or not, but it just looked like heated air to me, and a bunch of embers. I dunno if the fire is not showing up for me or if thats just how the game works.

Also before coming in here and spouting "ITS JUST YOUR PC MORON" I would like a screenshot of how the fire "does" look if my visuals are actually screwed up, and the fire looks normal for others. So yeah, has anyone else noticed this / had this problem, whatever it is.

Problem updated. I have screenshots to prove that I'm having problems

Why couldn't you just give us a screenshot?
It won't let me take one. I have no problems taking screenshots with other games, but this one just gives me a black screen for every SS

Well i play it on ps3 and the fire looks fine. Not amazing or anything but it does look like fire, and even though you said not to say it, its probably just your pc :3

Try messing with some settings!

I got screenshots working, but can't find the save location, FML.

I even search for the exact file name on my computer and it does not show up. What a bummer. I can't show you guys what is wrong with my spells.

There are a couple things you can try. Update your video card drivers and your DirectX. Turn down the graphical settings of the game - that might seem like the opposite thing to do, but a lot of modern games will detect poor frame rates and try to compensate by lowering the FX. Running the game at lower settings might make the FX reappear.

If those techniques don't work, go to skyrimprefs.ini and find a line like this:

sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460"

instead of GTX 460 it will list what ever graphics card you have. Changing this line to a better graphics card might trick the game into drawing the fire, although it could create other problems too. If this still doesn't work, search online for other things to try with your skyrimprefs.ini file. Good luck.

Nice attitude. Try turning down your settings. Set the game to a lower resolution and see if that helps.

Turned it to low, tried that, just made the game look bad and didn't fix the problems.

A friend has a similar problem with Bloom Lighting - some how it stuck to "off" when it really should have been set to "on".

Load your Save File, travel to an inside area with fire on display. Save and quit. Change the pre-set graphics options to 'Ultra' - as in, click 'Ultra' and do not change any settings.
Start the game and load your Save File. The fire effect should now be fixed. Save and quit. Return to the graphics options, and instead of clicking a preset option like 'Low' or 'Ultra', use the 'Advanced' graphics options to set everything to the required levels manually. Do not use the preset graphics options.

If this doesn't fix your fire effect, you'll need to modify the .ini files manually, however I don't know the correct command off of the top of my head for the fire effect.

Didn't work, I hope someone can tell me how to enable bloom lighting.

You need to upgrade your Graphics driver, if its NVIDIA here is your link:

http://www.geforce.com/Drivers

Select your driver and download the patch, it should be 100mb at most.

Pro tip: Do it. Worked for me

Nuuu...why are you killing Gerder?? Aside from the fact that she is named like the things that hold up bridges?

OT: download the new driver if you have an Nvidia GPU, but don't get the beta version. Its way, way unstable. Also, there's a new patch from Bethesda due out soon that should fix problems like this.

I had that problem a few times. Restarting the game, loading a save, or entering a new zone fixed it most times.
