Skyrim: Rescue from Fort Neugrad - Anyone Else Having A Problem?

Okay, this is rare for me... I'm having a problem I can't figure out in a game.

The mission "Rescue from Fort Neugrad" isn't working right. It's a Stormcloak mission. I don't know which (first, third, etc.) it is.

Here's the problem: When I enter the fort's prison (either from the lake or from the front door after storming the fort in a frontal assault), the prisoners are already free somehow and are attacking the bandits (Yes, bandits... I believe the enemies are supposed to be imperial troops, not bandits...) and after defeating them, they just stand there, saying things along the lines of "The key is on the guard."

I've looked, and I can't find the key. In addition, the reinforcements, lead by Roldof or Raldof or someone of the sort, don't advance when I enter the courtyard like they should, whether I enter through a straight-up, storm-the-fort approach or through the prison. Instead, they just stand around behind a rock and wait, as though I haven't attacked the fort at all.

I've tried several times, once with saving all the prisoners, another with them all dead. I've attacked and cleared every enemy from the area, and the reinforcements don't trigger. If the prisoners are alive, they don't trigger either. They just stand there as described.

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

In before those whiny "OMG another Skyrim thread stop it wah wah wahh"

I'm not sure what's going on there. May be a glitch. Skyrim is full of them. I'd say keep reloading the save and trying again?

Dunno man. :/

Aye. I've been doing it, and it's been giving me the same deal every time. I'll keep on trying, but I'm not in the mood to give up an entire questline because of one glitch.

Also, "Skryim Wah wah wah" threads are sooo 11/12/11. XD

Maybe the bandits raided the prison to free their buddies. And if this is the mission I'm thinking of, I think you just have to find out the guy was alive or even that he was just there.

I say 'I think', because my plan of just running through the front gate to his cell needs re-thinking. Sure, having a whole prison after you as you sprint like a madman through the halls is fun and all, but it's a prison. There's one way out, and it's through all the really angry guard friends you just made on your way in.

Epic adrenaline rush, btw. Lots of Shouting from the guards and cries of OMYGAHOMAGAHOHMAHGAH, as fireballs and ice and lightening explode around me!

That doesn't sound like the right mission, haha. It does sound awesome though.

The one I'm referring to is one where you have the option of entering a fort's prison through a cave in a lake or through the front.

The captives are Stormcloaks who are supposed to join the battle after being freed... But they can't because there isn't a battle, as described in the first post in this thread, haha.

Big round walled building at the north of the map? Yeah, that's it, I think. I'm pretty sure it's an imperial prison, and they supposedly house Stormcloaks there. I'm trying to see if a dude is alive for his mom and brother in Whiterun.

That not the same mission?

No sir. The fort I'm working at is south of Helgen. The mission is part of the Stormcloak questline, given by Galmar, I believe.

Ah, ok. Sorry. Good to know there's more prisons I can run through like a madman. ^_^

Good luck to you on your travels, and I hope you can find a solution to your troubles, good sir. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to go running naked through Whiterun again, dragonshouting to the heavens.

Thank you sir. Enjoy your time disturbing the peace in Whiterun, lol

Do it as a werewolf: Extra sprint, or just eat everyone. SO AWESOME!

Oh, I plan to. As soon as I get back to Whiterun and start doing Companion quests. ^_^

Check the Skyrim Wiki for that mission and see if there's reported glitch and solution there. It may not be up yet, but give it time. In Fallout3 and Fallout:NV the wikis became the prime problem solver for these glitches as people found the solutions and/or necessary console commands to reset glitched NPCs and so on. Worst case scenario, you're looking at manually setting the mission as complete with a console command and never look back.
I'd love to... Although I'm playing on PS3, which means I do not have any form of console to input commands in, as far as I am aware.

i made an account on this website just to say im having the exact same problem, and i feel ya. and dare i say it i am disappointed for letting something like this slip up and not fixing it nearly a week after the release, not even suggesting some methods of fixing this problem. should you find a possible solution i would greatly appreciate you posting it on this thread. in the meantime i'll keep searching. :/

I know how frustrating this bug is, so I wanted to throw my two cents in for anyone who is still looking for a solution! This worked for me:

BEFORE triggering the Rescue from Fort Neugrad quest (as early as possible), go ahead to Fort Neugrad yourself and clear out all the bandits. All the lackeys, the chief and Brandish. Make sure they're all gone.

After doing that and continuing the quest, it should finally trigger correctly.

Hope this helps for someone else.

I'm having the same issue, No cell, and no Imperial guards. I tried killing all the bandits off before I started the quest, but still to no avail. What can I do? I plan on finishing the Main quest before trying this again.

I've registered to answer this exact question. I cannot TELL YOU how angry I was at this stupid glitch. In my game currently, there was a patch I downloaded to stay on XBOX. I canceled it out and went through the Stormcloack quest line. I cleared out the bandits long before the battle for Whiterun to give the Imperial soldiers the chance to move in. It worked. I cannot freaking believe how happy I was to hear "You're tresspassing." Brought a tear to me eye. :'D
