Skyward Sword Scores Full Orchestral Soundtrack

If an orchestra is good enough for Mario, then it's good enough for Link.

Nintendo has sprung for a full orchestral soundtrack for Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword [http://www.amazon.com/Legend-Zelda-Skyward-Sword-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002BSC54I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1317729406&sr=8-2], which should ensure that the music that players hear as they're battling monsters and demon princes is suitably heroic.

Skyward Sword will be the first Zelda game to feature a full orchestral soundtrack; previous games have used sampled instruments or MIDI for their music. Shigeru Miyamoto had hinted that Nintendo planned to go down the orchestral route for Skyward Sword with comments like "I don't think we could do what we did with Mario Galaxy 2 and not try to match that with Zelda." Of course, bringing an orchestra to E3 was a pretty big hint as well.

It seems like Nintendo is trying a lot of new things for Skyward Sword: new graphical styles, new mechanics, new settings, and now new music. No one's going to hand the company an award for originality just yet, but it's great to see it taking a few more steps down that path.

Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword comes out for Wii on November 20th.

I'm afraid the whole game is just gonna feel like Mario Galaxy Adventure Mode or something. Seriously, watching the trailer it sounds and looks just like a modern Mario game. I'm gonna buy and play the heck out of this, of course, but I think I'm going to come away very, very confused.

I certainly hope the soundtrack will be good like the past games since I've preorder the Wii bundle pack with that gold colour Wii remote and with the soundtrack CD included aswell.

IT'S ABOUT GODDAM TIME! I've been waiting for orchestrated goodness since Wind Waker. You know, because console audio playback had become more than advanced enough to accurately render a full orchestra by then, I would think.

Also, new graphical style my achin' ass. Take Ocarina of Time, smash it against Twilight Princess, sprinkle just a little Wind Waker over it all, and we have Skyward Sword.

I'm still going to buy it though. And if they have the Wind Fish from Link's Awakening, I'll be fully prepared to hail this as the greatest Zelda game of all time.

Nice, just another thing to look forward to playing. It is about time they did this. Glad to see Skyward sword is getting some love.

If you're going to think like that, then nothing is ever original or new. Every idea ever concocted by a human being was a conglomerate of things and inspirations from the world around them.

Very rarely do game publishers put out a lot of different material. And even those companies that people applaud for doing new things, often times the originality is more skin-deep than anything. Titles where the gameplay's the same, but the coat of paint is different.

Nintendo seems to approach things different than most. They tweak, refine and innovate on gameplay fairly regularly, but use a familiar coat of painting to sell the newfangled ideas to the ever suspicious-of-new-things marketplace. Even in one of their mainstays like Zelda, you have titles that don't really innovate as in the main series, then you have ones like Four Swords or Phantom Hourglass.

Nintendo's no worse a culprit at lack of originality than most other game companies, it's just that--to both their benefit and detriment--people are mostly incapable of looking deeper than the surface.

Ha, it scores an orchestral soundtrack! Very punny.
Hehe. Heh. I'm glad I'm not the only one who found it funny.

Should be a fantastic soundtrack. The past games had great music even with the limitations of MIDI and sampling.

Fingers crossed for full-length orchestral Song of Storms!

Looking forward to this game, as with all Zelda games! Got 4 swords to keep me entertained until release, too.

I don't see why they should care about getting an award for originality. As long as the game is good, that's all that matters. If I want to play something that isn't another Zelda title, that's what the countless other games in this world are for. But when I do want another Zelda, I just want it to be good.
