Skywind Team Reveals Glorious New "Savagery" Trailer

If the new Skywind "Savagery" trailer doesn't make you want to trek back to Vvardenfell, you'd better check your pulse.

Morrowind is the greatest Elder Scrolls game ever made, and I'll hear no more about it. That said, it is looking a little past its prime these days; it's almost 14 years old, after all, which in video game terms is positively ancient. The good news for those of you who missed the glory days of the original is that Skywind will (someday) let you indulge in its brilliance without forcing you to give up any of the sweet eye candy you love.

Simply put, Skywind is Morrowind ported to the Skyrim engine. We gave you a rundown of the mega-mod earlier this month [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/131032-Skywind-the-Morrowind-in-Skyrim-Mod-Gets-Impressive-Dev-Video], but it bears repeating that this isn't just a straight-up port of the original game; the 70-strong Skywind team is rebuilding Vvardenfell in its entirety with modern assets, so that the shattered island will look appropriately barren without being empty.

The "Savagery" trailer doesn't go into the detail that the previous development video does, but it presents a far more cinematic look at the game and includes footage of content that isn't yet available for public release. Awfully pretty, wouldn't you say? There's still no release date, but you can follow its progress at the Morroblivion forums [http://morroblivion.com/forums/skyrim].

I've been told buy people working on it they estimate a late 2014 release date, I dunno if they are being optimistic or that they are working at that pace. Either way I'm hopeful it looks fantastic.

It's quite true that Morrowind may have been brilliant in it's day, but it's aged pretty poorly, especially in terms of graphics and game mechanics. I'm hoping that this actually ends up getting finished and not dropped halfway through like so many similar projects.

Wow, sounds amazing. I'm in, but only if they heavily feature Cliff Racers in the game. I LOOOOVVE those things!

I would be in romantic love with Morrowind if the combat wasn't so horrendous. Looks like they're using Skyrim's combat mechanics, so I will definitely lose my life to this when it comes out.

Looks great, but I'll hedge my bets here until I see the UI they're using. The Skyrim UI was atrocious for me, as was the Oblivion UI before it.

I've been looking forward to this since I heard about it about a year ago. I think what they need most right now is voice actors; Morrowind had a ludicrous amount of dialogue in it. Maybe I'll help out... it'd freak my brother out if he ran into an NPC with my voice xD

I really hope spears/halberds make a come-back though.

Y'know I'd be excited for this if it didn't come with Skyrim's awfully dumbed-down gameplay.

Oh well, at least there's the Morrowind Overhaul Mod.

Oh yes, gief! Stuff like this is what makes me come back again and again.

I've been off Skyrim for a few months now, but after looking back at all the awesome stuff that came out in the meantime, it's starting to itch again.

It also poses problems though, re-installing the game and updating it to be in line with the newest mods while still making sure that none of the older ones you're familiar with are causing problems is a lot of work, even with the easy tools that many modders made. Usually takes me at least a day or two.

There are many overhauls out there that improve Skyrim's gameplay tremendously. "Skyrim Redone" for instance.

In terms of immersion mods, I think Skyrim also has the widest variety available amongst all the TES games.

Wow. I'd pay money for this if it came out for 360. I don't know if that's ever been done with an Elder Scrolls mod before, but this would be a great first.

...Soooo, question: Is levitation going to be in it too? Because either the player gets the possible advantage of what may be game-breaking flight powers or those Telavanni towers will be a ***** to traverse. Then again, maybe they can just throw in some ladders? Not sure the hoity-toity bastards who live in those things would approve, being able to levitate apparently being a wizardy mark of honor for them, but it seems like it'd stop me from hovering just out of almost every enemy's reach and assailing them with fireballs as quickly as mana regen allows.

I remember flying all over the bad guy's volcano area, too, going straight to the tools needed to break the heart, nabbing them, going to the heart, and ending the main quest at level 15. Is it still 'Morrowind' if stuff like that is changed? Improved, even? Will hopefully be fun regardless, assuming it ever gets finished.

I wonder if it will ever get finished. There are lots of "super-mods" out there that never get done.
They've done this before though, for Oblivion. Huge team, lots of assets already there. Everything is in place for their success.

Having never played Morrowind , I feel so out of place in this thread....still, trailer looks cool enough and even though I'll never be able to play it due to being console peasant filth, I appreciate the amount of effort and time that goes into serious mods like this.
