Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time Sneaking onto PS3 This Fall

Sanzaru Games gives an ever-so-slightly more specific release window for the long-awaited next installment of the Sly Cooper 3.

Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time will be arriving on PS3 sometime this fall, ending the series' seven-year hiatus. Unfortunately, series creator, Sucker Punch Productions, isn't involved. Instead the game is being developed by Sanzaru Games, the outfit responsible for Sly Cooper HD and porting Secret Agent Clank to the PS2.

In Thieves in Time the player control not only thieving raccoon, Sly, but his equally larcenous ancestors. Sly's extended family, a few of which had tantalizing cameos in the original Sly Cooper game, get to rummage around various eras, stealing everything that isn't nailed down and generally making nuisances of themselves, much like actual raccoons. Each character, from the ninja, Rioichi, to the medieval knight, Sir Galleth Cooper, brings a different set of skills to the game, but Sanzaru President, Glen Egan, insists that their various play-styles are designed to complement Sly's stealthy skillset, rather than detract from it.

Thieves in Time will feature the open-world elements introduced in the second Sly Cooper game, rather than the raw platforming of the first, and will contain numerous collectable costumes that give Sly different powers.

The preview also mentions a feature that will thrill some gamers and appall others. When Sly is in the air, a tap of the circle button will have him land on a nearby platform "auto-magically." Considering how forgiving Sly Cooper's jumping mechanics have always been, making the platforming even easier seems a bit superfluous.

Regardless, I need to make room in my schedule this fall.

Man, I missed the Sly Cooper series.

Kinda bummed it's not Sucker Punch, though.

Didn't we already have that? Whenever you pressed the circle button he would auto land.
Yes, but...it's back now! So buy a copy! Or two! OoooOOooooOooh!

Yeah, I also thought it was kind of a dumb comment. Or am I missing the point here?

Anyway, I'm glad they pushed it forward. I checked yesterday and it still said 2013. However, there's already plenty of good games coming out this Fall (Like every other Fall, I know). So I just hope this isn't this year's Rayman Origins: A good but overall ignored title.

Ya, that's what I was thinking too. That sounds like the spire jump. Jump near a sparkling wire or point and he lands there. Watched the video and I didn't hear/see any mention of anything new like that. Wondering if it's a writing goof?

It's in the write up on the blog. They mention it specifically, and in regards to platforms, so I thought it was worth a mention.

Part of me should be happy that there's finally going to be a new Sly game. But the fact that it's not being made by Sucker Punch makes me feel a bit skeptical about it.

Ehhhhhh, forgive me for being skeptical about this, especially since Sucker Punch is not making this one.

Oh. Ummm... Yay? Checking their site, they don't look that promising. Ninja Reflex and The Mystery Files seem to be the only other games that they have developed aside from updating and porting ready made games. So I dunno. I'll be keeping my eye on this though. Loved the original three to bits.

Two? Last time I checked, there were three of them. Heheh.

Regardless, really looking forward to this, and from the information and videos we're getting, it's looking exactly like something Sucker Punch would do. I'm kinda hoping this is available to play on the Vita as well... this is something that I think would work perfect on the handheld.

Agreed. Coupled with how the guy rambles on and on about "We have just a ton of random BS for you to collect," leads me to wonder if they've just padded out the game with that stuff to hide the fact the main game is short and shitty.

Btw, I'm calling it now to say that it's Clockwork or someone associated with him that's mucking up the timeline.

My day just keeps getting better, first I find out about the Ratchet & Clank HD remake, now this and I have a whole load of Mountain Dew downstairs, the only way I could be happier is if Battlefield 3 was announced later.

Awwww yeaaaah.

Too bad Sucker Punch isn't involved with this, so hopefully this company won't screw it up. Sly doesn't deserve that happening to him.
