Da fuck are you talking about?! If that's suppose to be a joke, I gotta say, it ain't funny. Not in the slightest.
If only it was a joke, but the pro-violence lobby of the NRA is all-powerfull, and not a hundred school shootings, 30.000+ deaths a year and murder rates 6-33 times as much as comparable countries makes the US reconsider the free arms and murders for everyone laws they have.
1) The NRA does not encourage violence, in fact, I do believe that the local chapter of the NRA near my home actually holds gun safety classes, which each NRA member had to pass before being able to own a gun.

2) Several of the murders done with firearms in this country are done with poor intercity youths who have procured the gun illegally(Which is a felony) Yes, gun laws need to be changed and yes, some states are far too lax on gun ownership. But I will state this, should you remove the guns, it will not stop or lower crime, it will just cause fatalities due to knives or blunt weapons to rise as the UK has shown us.

3) I don't care what the fuck your argument is, your attempt to equate this small breach of school policy to a public shooting is down right offensive to those who are victims of gun violence not just in America, but everywehre . Please, think before you type and don't try to derail the thread.
Question, if I may, sir:

Don't such actions, specifically under number 3, violate the terms of the forum? Thank you for your time, good sir.
It use to, I'm not sure if it does anymore.

I was, but I sacrificed my powers to seal a dimensional rift that threatened all of civilization due to the release of toxic gas monsters (You're welcome!) and I haven't been too familiar with the recent edit on the terms and conditions.
I thank you very much for your noble sacrifice then. Without you, we would all be dead.

But yeah. I don't know. I haven't really noticed a change in forum rules an a while. So who knows.

Thank you for your time regardless.
It is quite alright, a 50 foot gold statue of me would be more then enough to pay me back and I thank you for having manners my good man!
Sorry, we don't have enough gold to build a statue that big. How about a silver one? A silver one that shoots lasers from it's eyes.

Also, glad to see manners here as well.

OT: I wonder why he thought this was a good idea.
Isn't the price of silver sky rocketing these days? Tell you what, how about we settle on just renaming your town after me and holding a biyearly parade in my honor?
My town is Saint Louis. So that might be a wee bit hard. I don't know if I can convince them to rename it "Saint maddawg IAJI", but I'll bring it up at the next meeting of the city council.

Also, we have far too many parades. no, really. I can't tell you how many times they made it hard to leave after work.
I'm sure once they hear my tale of heroism and sacrifice they'll consider it.

And darn, I was hoping you lived in a small town. Fine, forget the parades! We'll just have to paint my likeness on the arch! :D

It probably depends on schools. One school may not find Jackass 2 (or any movies/shows in the franchise for that matter) as a huge deal where another school may be more uptight over the contents that a teacher may show his/her's students.

I personally feel both saddened that a teacher is getting fired over something like this but on the other hand the teacher really did not have a reason to do so, to me it sounds like he just wanted to seem cool and show his students that.

If this was his first offense then I say give him a warning and possibly monitor his actions more closely to avoid this happening in the future but then again I am someone who likes to give multiple possible pardons.

I'm taking classes in Galesburg, which is north-west of Peoria. I'll ask them to consider changing their name. Though, that would make the occupy protest in the area "Occupy maddawg IAJI"

Really he got fired for that? That's stupid the students asked what he was doing and he answered them it's not like he went into the room and said who wants to see 2 girls 1 cup, and then forced the class to write an essay about it. It's just a stupid show besides their in high school they've seen worse, they have the internet at home and imagination believe me they have seen much much worse, that whole presumption of "oh their only children!" just bugs the hell out of me.

There was a really hot teacher student that apparently made out with some chick on a reality show, and they made her leave for something she did outside of class.
Well that doesn't seem fair at all.

OT: To even show a PG-13 movie here at my school (senior class mind you) we have to get a parent signature (even though I just fake it on the spot and no teacher minds). Not sure what it's like there, but rules are rules. He should get another chance though.

There really isn't enough information for any of us to make a judgement call on this. Based on what I've read and heard from your description I hope he gets his job back. Without personally knowing the man I can't know with a certainty whether or not his termination was valid, this may only be a small sampling of questionable behavior he has committed. To me it seems like he is a good teacher who was just trying to connect with his class and seem like a cool guy, who isn't a stuck up jerk, in my experience these are usually the best types of teachers but are the ones who end up in trouble the most, it's sad and it's bullshit. Teachers who are horrible at their jobs, don't teach the kids anything and then proceed to hand out bad grades never get in any trouble but then someone who genuinely enjoys teaching and their students gets shit on for something like this.

A lot of people are just blaming the faculty but don't forget that the parents of some of the students took it upon themselves to go complaining to the staff. I believe that's where it gets particular. They probably wouldn't have done anything but the parents wanted action, right? So they had to do something.

That being said... it was a right dumb thing to do. He could have just told the students instead of putting it all on the projector.

Getting fired seems rather harsh and overboard. But consequences. And again, probably some parent or other wanted him gone anyway.

God forbid a teacher make class fun. That'd be so bad. The kids should be miserable. If they're not tearing their hair out, weeping, cutting themselves, or cursing your name and flipping you off every time you turn around--you're not teaching correctly.
So not the Point.

Yes Class should be more fun, but don't forget your also supposed to be teaching.
What did anybody learn from that class? It's alright to dick around at work?

Schools just not the place for that kind of behavior. Sure kids have seen worse and can swear in more colorful tones than probably most people over 30. That doesn't make it okay to subject kids to that kind of norm.

This was DUMB, even he knows it was wrong. It's really just a matter of principle, it doesn't matter what he did for the school or even if he's this super great guy who helps old Ladys cross the street and occasionally fights crime at night.
If the school said, okay slap on the wrist "bad teacher, stop that", they'd have to put up with the discussions that aren't really worth the effort to defend his platant mistake.

It's just best for him and everyone involved to move on from this.
I was agreeing with you.

Thought I made that pretty clear.

I once spent an entire lesson being shown various clips from Top Gear during a year 12 physics class... By my actual physics teacher. This whole situation is ridiculous. It's not like he showed them anything really bad, sure it's a stupid fucking movie but shit who cares. This is a case where people need to harden the fuck up and get over it.

Any and all people getting upset by this are fucking idiots. My teachers used to let us watch Pulp Fiction and other R rated shows in class all the time. It's not like penis ever caused a World War, and it's not like no one has ever seen a penis before...God people are so fucking stupid these days!

he shouldn't get a second chance because he shouldn't need one if he had shown them hardcore porn then yeah but showing the students something they asked for i mean yeah what he did wasn't the most responsible thing but not worth getting fired over.

The worst excuse is that, "oh high school children have seen worse, so this incident does not really matter." The problem is that a teacher is a government official and needs to do his/her perform their best to meet the criteria of their job. Watching "Jackass" in class is the opposite of what a teacher should be doing in their class. Seriously our public education system is already falling behind most countries, do we really need this?

Serious? We had a teachers only day yesterday and I said to my science teacher "HA guts to be you Sir, we are going to be at home while you still at school" and he was like "Yes well, I still get paid $200 so.. fuck you"

He seriously said that! it was all good because we all knew he was joking and laughed; I have seen my economics teacher on /b before, I think it is really the reaction of the uppity parents that cause all of these things. That and the big mouth students anyhooh.

Later, downloaded 6 gigs of game that is refusing to work.. thanks Relic.

Open for news article:

A Wando High School teacher is on administrative leave after he reportedly broadcast scenes from a lewd movie to a group of high-school students.

Christopher Derek Poston, 36, is on leave while the school system and police investigate the matter, according to Charleston County Schools spokesman Jason Sakran.

The case stems from a Feb. 14 incident in which Poston, who was filling in for another teacher in a Latin class, watched the movie "Jackass 2" on his laptop while students worked at their desks, according to a Mount Pleasant Police report.

When the kids asked the teacher what he was watching on his computer, Poston displayed the video on a large projection screen for the entire class to view.

The "Jackass" series of TV shows and movies feature actors performing dangerous and sometimes lewd acts in a variety of situations. The movies are rate R for "extremely crude and dangerous stunts throughout, sexual content, nudity and language."

Apparently Poston showed students a scene where one of the actors wears a sock puppet on his genitalia and then is struck by a poisonous snake, according to the police report. The video leaves little to the imagination.

Video:
<youtube=XPZJxzypxgQ&feature=related>

When parents began reporting the behavior to Wando administrators, Poston wrote a statement to the school accepting blame for his "inexcusable" actions, the police report states. Principal Lucy Beckham reported the incident to police.

Poston apparently showed several minutes of the "Jackass" movie and then turned it off when a computer technician entered the classromroom. He then put the movie back on the screen when the technician left the room.

Poston also launched a PowerPoint projection with photos from the website, "People of Walmart," which pokes fun at oddly dressed Walmart patrons. He told school officials the website taught lessons on the consequences of violating social norms, the police report states.

School system officials would only confirm there was an investigation and referred further questions to Mount Pleasant Police. It wasn't clear Friday afternoon if criminal charges were pending.

Poston is a 1994 Wando graduate and Citadel alum, according to his Facebook page.

All of the students at my school loved him and are actively protesting his termination. He led our school's Buddy Olympics and was an avid supporter of many school clubs and organizations. While I didn't have him as a teacher, I've heard nothing but good things from fellow students.

That being said, I want to know The Escapist's position on this. If a beloved teacher pulls a stupid stunt, should they get a second chance was my school right in firing him?

EDIT: This is a petition that the kids at my school have started. This shows more of the public's opinion of him. http://www.change.org/petitions/the-kids-and-parents-of-wando-high-school-give-their-comments-about-christopher-poston?utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition&utm_term=share_with_facebook_friends#
Good luck. From experince, the system ALWAYS wins against the students. always.

I remember my old Maths teacher (Mr Castley or simular to this) wanted to watch Wimbeldon on the TV in his room, so he brought in a TV aerial and a freeview box (which was fairly new tech back in secondary school) and therefore we watched Wimbeldon whilst doing some algebra.
