And I really don't get it in the slightest. I understand the third section of it being a torture induced hallucination, but the first and second parts made little to no sense outside the basic storyline and seeing how a number of people consider it to be one of the best movies of all time, I figured I had to be missing something.

[b/]For discussion value:[/b] What are some movie plots that made little or no sense to you/Explain a plot to someone else.

Brazil is a good movie but it is a bit hard to follow. I had a similar reaction the first time I watched Naked Lunch.

I don't think there have been many plots that I didn't "get" on some level. There have certainly been many many wtf moments however. Usually from older movies.

One Boy And His Dog - the post apocalyptic tale where women have mostly died out and the protagonist has a telepathic dog that can sniff them out. (I know it sounds like an elaborate porn movie but it isn't)

Tetsuo was just weird but did have a point which I don't think I can explain at this time in the morning.

Ehh, I didnt find it hard to follow myself, but I just didnt like it personally.

But that might have to do with my personal revulsion related to anything related to the 1980s.

He's got away from us, Jack. 'Fraid you're right, Mr. Helpmann. He's gone.

Truly one of the greatest films of all time.

Watch it again. Work out who is telling you it. Watch the story arcs.

Not sure why you're adding a token discussion value point, there's plenty of discussion value in your post without it, you could have just asked "What do you think I'm missing?" for example.

I think Brazil is excellent, apart from the romantic subplot which I think is a bit crap. I'm not sure why the first two-thirds of the movie don't make sense to you, I really thought they were pretty straightforward, can you explain to me exactly what it was about them that confused you?

By the way, you've basically ruined the surprise twist of the film for anyone who hasn't seen it, so you should put some big heavy impossible to miss spoiler warnings on this thread. If I hadn't already seen this film I'd be absolutely furious at you for making this thread.

That thing will now haunt my nightmares. What movie is that?

EDIT: Duh. Such a lack of sleep.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, it made sense to me but none of my friends got it, so here goes.

Guy is is in L.A., stealing from a toy store with accomplice, gets caught and chesses it, running down alley woman with gun stops them, shoots accomplice, he runs and ducks into an audition for a detective movie, script is for a charecter who got his friend killed on the job, overcome with grief he emotes over the loss of his friend, auditioners thinks hes acting, goes to party thrown by director, meets long lost lady friend, convinces her hes a P.I., he takes job for her,... oh fuck it!

I haven't got all night, watch the movie, its really damn good.

Damn ninjas.

This is the only piece of advice that I would give. Brazil, especially, needs a second and third viewing. You cannot realize how brilliant a film it is on the first viewing (I sure didn't).
