So, my Fallout 3 saves are gone

So last night I decided to install Fallout 3 on my machine (running Windows 7 if that changes much). Made my character and played for a bit, the game did the auto saves and I saved a few times myself. I did not turn off the machine or log on to Live as far as I know.

However now, I have no saves to load and the game only offers the chance to start a new game. I checked the folder where the saved files are supposed to be and its empty. I borrowed the game from a friend, is there any installation key limit on Fallout 3 that would cause this? Any ideas why I have no saves?

Make sure that your saves are in your // folder. Or, if you were logged into LIVE before, but aren't now, move them back to your regular save folder.

Nope not logged in and Live wanted profile info when I checked to see if it was on. I don't remember putting any profile info in so I doubt it was running.

Not too far, just got into Megaton, though I really didn't want to have to go through the whole opening again. And I don't really want to start again if my save files only dissapear again.

It has happened to me once, that all my previous saves had disappeared (wasn't in LIVE). That was when I had XP. I have not had any problems of the kind with Windows 7 x64.

All of mine were gone when I got a new Xbox. I lost 50, maybe 60+ hours of gameplay, you only lost a few.

I lost 80+ when my Ps3 thought it would be funny to auto-save my brother's new file over mine.

OT: j0z has the right idea for this.
Owch, that sounds painful. Not as bad as having my WoW account stolen (You better do the damn work and give me that son of a *****'s new password for my account, Blizzard) and losing over 300 hours of gameplay on one character alone.

Might be nice if someone posted a save just before the vault exit (since before you open the door, you can make any changes you like to your character) But then, there's still whether or not you killed the vault leader or whoever.
