Simple question: I want to experience the magic I heard with the name "School Days".
But which is better? The Game, The Manga or the Anime?
Thank you.

Yeah, I wanted to be surprised myself, but as soon as wrote in search the title, I saw a specific scene......spoilericif I must say, but for that reason I am curious now.Windknight said:Aside from not getting involved in the whole thing at all, the most satisfying and 'true ending' way for most people is to play the game aiming for the Bad End where the protagonist gets killed.
Funnily enough, a lot of straight porn focussed VN's where the porn comes before all else tend to features protagonists you hope meet a bloody Bad End.
Well...Samtemdo8 said:Neither, go read the works of Oshimi Shuzo if you want to read those "Mind-fuck" type of Mangas.
Specifically Aku no Hana and BOKU WA MARI NO NAKA.
I am also fascinated by the recent one called Happiness which pretty much deals with Vampires.CrimsonBlaze said:Well...Samtemdo8 said:Neither, go read the works of Oshimi Shuzo if you want to read those "Mind-fuck" type of Mangas.

I've read all of Aku no Hana (The Flower of Evil, for me) and it seemed to tease at some much darker themes bordering on a more supernatural element that never really came into fruition. I will agree that there is one VERY SPECIFIC mind f*** moment, but after that, it's actually a very somber read. Still fantastic, don't get me wrong.
As for Boku Wa Mari No Naka, I've read the first few chapters and wasn't really impressed. I've read other gender bender/trap mangas that were more entertaining than this, but I could be wrong. It might get better for those who stick around.
Anyway, the manga for School Days was a real mind f***, as I was genuinely surprised by the absence of its notorious bloody Bad Ending and instead a much more darker ending that comes full circle.
Yes, Happiness is also a jewel. Some of the more recent chapters are more shock value than mind f***, but it was really disturbing when those chapters were first revealed.Samtemdo8 said:I am also fascinated by the recent one called Happiness which pretty much deals with Vampires.CrimsonBlaze said:Well...Samtemdo8 said:Neither, go read the works of Oshimi Shuzo if you want to read those "Mind-fuck" type of Mangas.

Also what was the very specific mind fuck moment in Aku no Hana (just added in spoilers) because I think I know what you are referring to but I need confirmation.
I think that really sums up everything related to this franchise. I mean, I only really know about the whole thing because someone posted gifs of two of the gory 'Bad Ends' from the game (the one where the one girl kills herself, and the one where she kills the other girl) and gleaned just enough details to tell myself 'nope, not ever'.Fox12 said:Jesus... None. Are you a masochist? Even if you are, don't watch this series. I know I'm probably making you want to watch it more, but don't. You can save yourself. You can prevent the madness. Just don't. Lock this thread. Don't look into this again. School days is like a dumpster fire filled with used condoms. Just don't.
In all seriosness, the show isn't as dark as you may think. It's mostly frustrating and boring. The only reason people know about it is because of the last five minutes of the series. It's really not worth the wait, though. There are better shows out there.
It's probably the worst anime I've ever seen. My biggest pet peeve is when the whole conflict could be solved if the characters would just talk to one another. Instead they drag the plot on for ages, with nothing happening, as the characters become more unsympathetic with time. I think that the show was trying to deconstruct the harem genre, but it was so poorly done that it alienated any possible audience it had. I'll admit, though...Windknight said:I think that really sums up everything related to this franchise. For the truly perversely masochistic, get a bit into the story, so you can know the protagonist, then switch to the Cross-Days spin off. P.S. This is a profoundly stupid thing to do, unless you're into forced feminization and gay rape.Michel Henzel said:Well if you are only a little bit of a Masochist then the Anime/Manga would do fine, a bit more of a Masochist then the game, if you are a really hardcore Masochist then all of it. And not just the first game, all the games.
Basically this, the whole franchise(including cross-days) is just frustration, boredom, and disturbing twists involving a seriously emotionally screwed up cast. It's like how a true anti-social hikikomori sees socialization in school and the rest of real life, plus how they think sex works. It's really just unfun with an unsatisfying pay off.Fox12 said:In all seriosness, the show isn't as dark as you may think. It's mostly frustrating and boring. Yes you totally should, for the MC is such a "Amazing" person that you just must get to know inside and out (pun intended)KyuubiNoKitsune-Hime said:For the truly perversely masochistic, get a bit into the story, so you can know the protagonist, then switch to the Cross-Days spin off.
