So Total War: Three Kingdoms (China) is out to mostly positive reception.

For a 4th time in a row CA avoids another Rome 2-like Launch. Thank goodness. Here's Angry Joe's video of a Co-Op Campaign.

Me I won't bother until I see what are going to be the big DLC. And because I don't know if my PC can handle this.

And now the wait for Warhammer 3 begins.

I bought it, game is and looks great. It's got a lot of character going on with design and music.

It does look like I've reached the moment I've dreaded coming though. Total War requires more juice than my PC can handle while not looking awful. Looks like that upgrade may need to happen sooner than I thought.

And that is what I dread for Warhammer 3.

And a lot of these upgrades requires Windows 10

Well that is encouraging.

After the disappointment that was Thrones of Brittania I did not preorder 3 Kingdoms.

I'll still wait for it to go on sale but good to know CA can still try when it wants to and that they're willing to delay release for a few months when a game needs it.

As much as I love the Three Kingdoms setting I don't really trust CA to deliver a solid product on launch so I'll wait for some eventual patches, DLC and price drops down the line.

Here is a video from a guy that is critical of CA as of late.

Arch? Critical is not what i would call him. This is the person that created a video against ca based on a fake picture, only because it had womens in them

Legend of total war is maybe a better example of "person who was critical of total war as of late and gave 3 kingdom a timid thumb up".

I am aware of Arch-y boy's political stance. He just still drinking from the same kool-aid Sargon is.

But at least even he reeled in back the politics in this review.

And I forgotten that fake picture thing. Care to elaborate?

Yeah, I was going to respond with that... he was surprisingly positive about it and his DLive chat were actually happy and talking about TW on stream for once(!). Guess you thought the same about posting his review here but decided against 'cos it's pretty damn long.

That said, I'm waiting for RepublicOfPlay's take on it, cos he was pretty critical in videos leading up to release (however few there were).

It is probably the freshest TW in years, if not ever. The core of strategy/tactical gameplay is still there and while I find the rooster pretty limited in terms of unit variety, the decision to tie units to specific commander classes (ie. Vanguards get shock cavalry, Strategist gets the best archers, Champions spear infantry etc.) means that each army will have a unique composition, as you rarely have enough courtiers (let alone courtiers that get along) to make a bunch of cookie cutter armies.

My main issue with the game right now is a bug where Yuan Shao, for some reason, goes on an absolutely mad vassalizing spree somewhere between turn 50 and 100. During this frenzy he can establish somewhere between 3 and 6 vassals per turn and usually doesn't stop until he's somewhere above 10. In effect, anyone who has to face Yuan Shao (and that's a lot of factions) have to either take him out really early or get face stomped by Yuan Shao's massive doomstacks as his vassals all come to his aid. Sadly it makes Zheng Jiang almost unplayable because her economy is incredibly weak for most of the early and mid-game and she's right next to Yuan Shao.

For me that's actually Sun Jian. I heard about his infamous reputation so I kept a wary on Yuan Shao. As it turned out that other northen warlord kept Yuan in check. Meanwhile Sun Jian took 21 provinces for earlier than anyone else and then vassalized everyone.

This is for rome 2: a month after they added female generals, somebody started the rumor that ca released a patch that made women generals in the different factions by a disproportionate amount, archy here jumped to it like a rabid dog based on a huge lack of actual research and 1 picture.

Funny thing about that whole thing, it took a month after release of the patch until people complained, and people started review bombing the game. actual rome 2 players didt care it was prettry obious the fake outrage
After this i lost all respect for the guy, edgy just because he could (didnt help i learned his lore videos are wrong a lot of times and he pads things waaaay to much)

...not the exploit where you can con faction leaders out of all their farmland by offering them more food than the land generates in trade, then proceed to extort them for decades and/or simply starve them out? Cao Cao Rice Mafia is easily one of the most broken things I've seen in a strategy game in a long, long time.

I mean, I haven't played a TW game in fifteen years, but I saw that gem on YT and haven't laughed that hard at strategy game shenanigans since CK2 added enatic succession. Just, damn them for not allowing Celtic cultures access to it.

Honestly, no. It is a broken strategy relying on a poorly balanced trade system (similar to the "Marry Lu Bu/Sun Ren by giving someone 4 clay pigs and some rice"-strat/exploit), but at least it is player initiated. I don't want to cheese my way through the game, so I simply don't use the Cao Cao Rice Mafia exploit or the Ma Teng free Shock Cav exploit. Those are issues if you decide to use them, the insane rate and number of vassalizations in the late early game affected the player no matter what they did.

Yeah, RepublicOfPlay's review is out. Pretty measured and balanced. He liked more stuff than he hated and he was *meh* about a fair bit, too.

Based on this and LegendOfTotalWar's review, I'll definitely get 3K, when it's cheaper and I get a PC capable of running it on max settings.

Preferably wait and see what kind of DLC this game is going to get. Especially the infamous Blood and Gore DLC :p

If you wanna play this game with good graphics you need some power. I can't play on high without massive amounts of stuttering in battles with a 980 and an i5. Good move on waiting.
