Solid Snake Gets a Movie

Kojima Productions will receive a (liquid) hand from Amazing Spider-Man producer.

Things seems to be getting pretty busy for Solid Snake and company. At the Metal Gear Solid 25th Anniversary event held in Japan, Hideo Kojima announced that, in addition to an open world game [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119363-Kojima-Productions-Announces-Open-World-Metal-Gear-Solid-Game], a Metal Gear Solid movie is now in the works, courtesy of a new partnership between Kojima Productions and Columbia Pictures. Avi Arad, a producer on The Amazing Spider-Man, is attached to produce the project.

"For many years I fought to bring comics to theaters - and videogames are the comics of today," he said. "We will take our time and tell the story with all the nuances, ideology, cautionary tales needed." Arad's credits include many Marvel properties, such as Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and The Incredible Hulk, and stretches from the Double Dragon television series to the upcoming movie adaptation of Uncharted [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92796-Uncharted-Is-Coming-to-the-Big-Screen].

While no directors or actors are officially signed on, Kojima dropped names such as Christopher Nolan, Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck as people he'd like to see involved with the adaptation. Since official casting will most likely not occur until after a director and writer are attached, for now, all we can do is guess. Personally, I'm thinking Jason Statham in a wicked wig is the best bet for Snake. What about you?

As much as I would like to see David Hayer pick up the acting gig of the solid man himself, I kinda think we need to look in a different direction. Sooooooo, we need someone who can handle being an absolute bad-ass with a lot of unspoken personality. How about David Boreanaz?

That would be so hilariously awesome if Kurt Russell played Snake, but alas... he is far too old for that now. Wish we could go back to right after they filmed Escape From New York. Snake was inspired by that character after all.

This won't be good.
Since WHEN Hollywood has done any good at porting games to films?

This could be a really bad thing. I don't know how much influence Arad has on the production but none of those projects (Uncharted yet to be completed) were that stellar for box office, critical reception, or fan approval. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and this turns out well for the sake of franchise legacy but this could be the first wrong move on who they have for the project and Metal Gear deserves a better producer. Or just bring another producer on board who isn't attached to such flops.

Especially The Not-So-Amazing Spiderman

Why don't they just take the cutscenes from all the games, play them back to back and voila! Instant Metal Gear Solid movie! It's already feature length!

I can just about see Hugh Jackman as a pretty good Snake but I'm not seeing where Matt Damon or Ben Affleck fit in... probably because they just wouldn't.

David Hayter is the voice of Snake, AND he looks like Snake. He is the OBVIOUS choice for the role, but he won't get it sadly.
My 2nd hope would be Kurt Russel, who Snake is based off of.
3rd is Nathan Fillion because it is Nathan Fillion.

David Hayter or GTFO!

Or they could use anybody else for that matter... but use Hayter's voice! :D

A Metal Gear movie actually doesn't sound too crazy, the games were already huge interactive movies.

Can we get Hugh Jackman playing Snake, but David Hayter coaching him on Snake's voice? If not Hugh will simply have to be dubbed! Also you've got to wonder, which incarnation of Snake are they going to be putting on the big screen?

I can see it now. Opening night and a line up of cardboard boxes waiting to get into the theatre.
I wonder how many people will go dressed as Genome soldiers and simply cut to the front of the line, since there clearly aren't any people there - just random cardboard boxes sitting in the middle of an area not normally populated by cardboard boxes.

Also, as a side note... do I get to be the first person to comment on how that isn't Solid Snake in the picture?

Well the Metal Gear Solid series is almost a movie, what with all the cutscenes. So maybe Hollywood won't screw it up.

Way to use a picture of Naked Snake when talking about a movie about Solid Snake :p

I can only wish for an awesome MGS movie, but knowing Kojima's love for copious dialog, I'm doubtful.

I'm torn between making a snide comment about the previous games pretty much being shit films already, and making a snide comment about them finally admitting what they actually wish they were working on.
