Solid Snake's Actor MIA From MGS: Rising?

Will Solid Snake once again sport the instantly-recognizable gruff grumble of David Hayter in Metal Gear Solid: Rising? If so, nobody's told Hayter yet.

Since 1998's Metal Gear Solid, fans have come to expect certain things from the stealth-action franchise. For one, there will be lots and lots and lots of cutscenes filled with pretentious, vaguely-philosophical dialogue and narration. For another, guards will be horribly nearsighted and not very smart. And finally, the iconic voice of Solid Snake will be provided by David Hayter.

Snake might not be the star of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Rising - that's severely messed-up cyborg ninja Raiden - but he's the face of the series, so there's no way Hideo Kojima would at least pass up a cameo, right? Which means that David Hayter will be tapped to voice him again, right? Right?

Speaking with MTV Multiplayer [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2010/06/10/voice-of-solid-snake-hasnt-been-contacted-for-metal-gear-solid-rising/], Hayter was asked about the two upcoming Metal Gear games. He praised the plot of Peace Walker, in which he provides the voice for Big Boss, calling it "a very in-depth telling of the Big Boss storyline." Of Rising, however, he didn't know much.

"I don't know if I'm doing Metal Gear Rising," Hayter admitted. "Nobody's contacted me about it, so I have no idea."

The game might be focusing on Raiden, but Solid Snake is the iconic character from the series - if he doesn't show up at all, fans are probably going to be slightly unhappy [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Understatement].

Still, Hayter was quick to acknowledge that just because he hadn't heard anything, it doesn't mean that he wouldn't be involved with the game at all. "They usually call me once the Japanese game is done and they're starting to get into the English translation. So we're not completely done, but it's on its way by the time they get in touch with me."

So hopefully, Hayter will cigarette-rasp his way through the voice of Solid Snake once again - just don't expect to hear it at E3. Hey, someone ask Quinton Flynn [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0283594/] if they've gotten in touch with him yet, quickly!

He's just not allowed to give anything away yet.

One of the first things they would decide on when making a Metal Gear is whether or not Snake will be in it.

If he doesnt, its not cause of him. David Hayter is one of teh biggest MGS fans out there, and it was him who got all the origional voice actors to do one of the remakes. Im not a MGS fan, but his dedication to it makes me have so much respect for him.

If there is no Hayter, there should be no Snake in the game.
As much as I thought his "old" voice got a bit tiresome after a few hours, Solid Snake without David Hayter is like Sam Fisher without Michael Ironside.
i.e. impossible.
Although I'm quite sure that he is voicing in the game.

Exactly... there no indication of problem between Hayter and the localization team and it's unlikely that he wouldn't reprise his role.

I clicked on that link. Next thing I knew, 10 minutes had past and I had 30 tabs open in that site. Thanks Funk, and I'm meant to be recording something for a super secret Escapist Project. Or maybe not. I'll let you decide...

Calumon: Huh? Who's footprints are these?

It's really not snake without Hayter, so if he's not in it, they better not have snake at all.
Also, when I read the title I mistook Rising for peace walker and nearly rage vomitted all over the screen.

I really hope Raiden says "Got it memorized?" every few minutes.

P.S. Thanks

Well, the issues whats-his-face (whoever made the decision) was dealing with when he made sons of liberty, with raiden as the lead, were never really dealt with. After all, I betcha the main reason the next game in the series had big boss in it was because of the backlash raiden generated. I hate that guy.
Which means, the person(s) involved are trying again. Hence the release of two games: they want to gauge reaction, like the first time wasn't enough or something.

Anybody else but me wish that Peace Walker was the proper console game as apparently it was supposed to be, and Rising was the handheld game?

if David Hayter isnt doing the voice, the only way id be happy to see snake in the game is if he's sitting in a lawn chair with a cig, a beer, and two women next to him and just gives raiden the finger
