The title basically states the question, so, tell me, are there covers to songs that you think are better then the original? I'm just curious.

Johnny Cash's Cover of Nine Inch Nails "Hurt". That cover is amazing, and so much better. But it is Johnny Cash so of course it is.

It's certainly beautiful, but I can't agree on it being better. Those final shocking guitar notes at the end of Reznor's just about take it higher for me.

I love the original, but man... this is a masterpiece.

Probably one of Turbowolf's covers, they're all awesome (and have awesomely awesome crazy videos). Should probably point out that that video is pretty NSFW, there's nipple tassels and things.

Someone will probably say this:

But actually, I really like Leonard Cohen's original, particularly the chorus.

Well, somebody already mentioned Hurt, so I'll just say Denis by Blondie. The original was actually french I think.

This just seems more soulful than the Johnny Cash version somehow, and the drums really do sound like a train approaching, great stuff. The Cash version just seems a bit dull to me. I'm aware Cash didnt write the song, but I think his version is probably the most popular?

Reallllly obvious one here, surprised it's not been mentioned already.

And finally this. Leonard Cohen writes great songs, but by god his voice bores the living shit out of me.

Excusing the obligatory Gary Jule's Mad World, I add Luca Turilli's Rhapsody cover [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yVbjw4uTQc] of Helloween's 'March of Time. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E268jKfnJd8]' The cover is a bit cleaner and feels more grand. I don't really like old symphonic metal, yet, so for now I'll take the cover. I do like the gritty feel of it but I'm more used to Rhapsody's style.

First off, cool username. Secondly, that is a kickass cover. I now have two versions of My Way I can enjoy xD.[sub]Well there is the original French version Sinatra took >.>.[/sub] This is exactly what a good cover should do!

not gonna comment on some of the earlier suggestions, but this one should be pretty uncontroversial.

En Kungens Man is pretty popular for Swedish trallpunk bands to cover due to it's strong socialistic message. Prefer the covers more than the original. They're all great, but I'm a bit biased since I love the trallpunk genre.

Original(with lyrics, so non-Swedish speakers can understand it!)

Guns N Roses cover of 'Knocking' on Heaven's Door' - Original by Bob Dylan

DJ Sammy's cover of 'Heaven' - Original by Bryan Adams

Cascada's cover of 'What Hurts the Most' - Original by Rascal Flats (I think)

Mastodon's cover of Just Got Paid from ZZ Top is pretty damned amazing.

My brain is currently barely functioning so I can't think of anymore at the moment.
