Speaking as someone who still has Sonic and Tails stuffed toys proudly sitting in my room at the age of 23...

These fucking retards aren't even close to Sonic fans.

Yeah, Sonic 4 looks awesome. I've been trying to perform a mercy killing by not buying a single Sonic game since Sonic 3D, but Sonic 4 looks like such a return to the good old days of Sonic 1-3+Knuckles that I actually can't wait for it to be released. I haven't been excited about a Sonic game since I was... Half the height I am now?

Wow.Just,wow...
Maybe they should realize that this is a different age of video games and games changed and might not ever be like they use to.And whenever people try to make a old style game like that, they will fail.Games will never be like they use to,or at least not in that classic style. Also, they are idiots if they think that is what boycotting is...

Interesting strategy to be honest, and while silly sounding, it makes a degree of sense. They do not want to drive Sega our of business, but want to show support for the kind of game they feel should be made with the franchise.

I'm all for it to be honest, even if I don't care one way or the other. Truthfully with all of the absolute turds released as Sonic games, trying a true "back to the basics" approach wouldn't be a bad thing for the franchise. I mean it's not like they can hurt anything at this point...

This just supports the notion (fact) that fanboys (and fangirls) are all fucking stupid.

On that note, I'm also not looking forward to this game either. I'm not sure why. I, personally, like Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, and even Sonic Heroes. I didn't mind the 3D games at all. This game, however, just doesn't seem too interesting at this point. I suppose I'll wait and see if any new information comes out soon. (course, I'm more interested in Metroid Other M at this point).

Ok these fanboys clearly don't know anything, there has barely been any gameplay footage of the title and already they are complaining.

Also it's increadibly stupid buying another Sonic game in protest, it won't teach Sega anything, they'll get their money one way or another.

...Wait, boycotts are when you don't buy a company's products?

And games aren't made exclusively for nit-picking every little insignificant non-issue?

No wonder the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott failed miserably!

Hey, internet! We were doing it wrong the whole time!

So, all 1118-at-this-moment signees have pledged to boycott Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog 4 by instead buying Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog 1. They are taking their hard-earned money that would have otherwise gone into the coffers of talentless, greedy Sega, and giving it to, um, well...

...yeah, that'll really learn 'em good. Take that, Sega!
I'm at a loss for words at their logic. If they said we'll buy Mario games, due to him being the "Blue Blur's" biggest rival, then it would make much more sense. But..... I fail to see the point.

Yes. Yes I would. But what I'm really hoping is that in the year 2015, we aren't all asking, "When is Sonic The Hedgehog 4 : Episode 3 going to come out?"

Yep, I made a Valve joke. I feel bad now for some reason...

Well, it would work if they all bought the old cartridges which would invariably all be used and thus not generate any revenue for Sega...

Well...
I probably won't be purchasing any new sonic games. Not even if they did go back to the roots.
I did buy Sega Classics for my PSP though.

That era of gaming that Sonic belongs in is long gone by now.
Some of the great franchises from that era managed to develop and adapt to a new type of gaming, and the especially the switch from 2D to 3D gaming.

Most of the however did not.
Sega should just let Sonic rest in peace by now, and put their money in to new franchises.

A brand new, and good 2D classic style Sonic, merely as a fan service, would be acceptable though.

Those idiots will never ever get the Sonic game they want, not because SEGA doesn't know how, but because those fanboys want something that they percieve as godly.

What about Sonic 4 SCARES PEOPLE AWAY?
It's different! It's the same! It sucks! It hasn't been released yet! It has no ideas! It doesn't have enough ideas! Sonic isn't blue enough! Sonic is too blue! Not enough Tails! Too much Tails!

Take your pick. It's something new to complain about and think it's cool to do so.
Sonic fans are, in fact, boycotting Sonic 4 until it is announced for Sega Genesis and physically makes them seven again.

Nothing surprising. Sonic fans have been proven to be dumber than dog shit.
There's a guy in my class next to mine that is a total sega-fanboy. I asked him which of the following companies are the best. Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft. He said: SEGA

Sonic fanboys suprise suprise!

Oh, us gamers and our nit-pickiness never ceases to amaze me.

Seriously, one slight detail wrong these days sparks boycott and whatever else. Um, you know, if you don't like the concept, how about, you know, not buying the game? I heard that helps. But a mass purchase of Sonic 1 will solve NOTHING.
Sure it will. It will give Sega more money to work on Sonic 4.

OT: Okay, I'm in agreement that their protest - to make sure this is well established - "Protest" of Sonic 4, not Sonic or Sega in general; not a boycott, is futile. But really we don't have to insult these 1000+ people or even point out that their protest is futile. This is really non-news and I wish John would take a slightly more objective (not blog-like) tone.

In terms of legitimacy, I'd also agree that the protest is jumping the gun. However if there is one thing they can see from current release, it's a design aesthetic, and if they disagree with it/feel it less than ideal, they should be free to do so in a peaceful, or even as xanadu points out, encouraging manner.

My personal thoughts about the upcoming Sonic 4 release are that it's a bit of a nostalgia cash-in, but as it's developed outside of Team Sonic, all-in-all a negligible progression, that I may or may not pick it up depending on pricing and how much it piques my interest. I'd like to see Sonic in the 3D realm more if it's really to progress, even if many of those iterations have been blunders(enjoyed Sonic Adventure, thought some of the components of Battle were interesting-if a little zany with the characters- and Heroes was playable, if a bit stale and weak production-value wise).

*Facepalm*

All this time, Sonic fanboys have been asking for a return to the original concept, and when they get it, they boycott it.

Just...FAIL.
