Man, I WAS a Sega kid and I think these guys are freakin' daft. They concluded all this from the ten seconds of unfinished footage? *rolls eyes* Crimony.
What's more, Sega was NEVER "pretty much the power in video games." In fact, on going back and playing the games in the Sega Genesis collection for the PS3, I discovered that pretty much anything not Sonic, Golden Axe, Comix Zone, or Phantasy Star IV-related was completely unplayable garbage, with bad controls, unbearable colors, ear-bleedingly bad music, and downright heinous gameplay--and these were SUPPOSED to have been Sega's finest, and even the few titles I listed were a stretch. Golden Axe has ridiculous exploits, Sonic is downright clumsy prior to Sonic 3, PSIV, even if it is one of my all-time nostalgic favorites, is way overly simplistic and ridiculously cut-and-dry in its writing, and Comix Zone... is awesome. I can't believe I didn't play that one as a kid. o_@ But ALL THE OTHER ONES aint nothin' to write home about compared to the likes of Super Castlevania IV, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, and Donkey Kong Country, among dozens of other hits from Sega's competition. Hell, I'd even say PSIV isn't as good as Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, and it's saying a lot that I feel more challenged and engaged by the kids' game than I do by the comparatively mature sci-fi/fantasy role-playing game.
All that aside, let's look at some sales numbers.
Sonic 2: 6.3,million copies shipped.
Sonic 3: 1.6,million copies shipped.
Super Mario Bros. 3: 11,million copies shipped.
Super Mario World: 20,million copies shipped (seriously).
Hello!? Sega didn't just lose to Nintendo, they lost BY A LANDSLIDE, and that was at the height of their game. Ugh.
Get real, guys. Jesus.
