Sony: Backwards Compatibility Is Never Coming Back

i think they whated to do what the 360 did but they forgot that not very house had an xbox so this works allso they what you to buy and play there expensive ps3 games but this falls over because unlike the old xbox you own ps2 and 1 if the ps3 was a child

it wolud ignore the enormous pile of toys its bothers and sisters before it it had for the extremity small pile good expense ones never resing that it my be a good ider to at lest try them trying to be like its frend xbox 360 who being so thick dosent resie he had very few games to begin with

I'm pretty sure this is how the Atari 5200 got royally boned (by not having backwards compatibility) that and having the worst controller in the history of gaming.

I thought the Atari5200 had Backwards compatibility, no? To my knowledge it was the crappy launch and bad marketing (by god, don't you DARE connect that with the PS3 >_<)

I really do not get them. The PS2 library is one of the biggest out there and it is still growing.Why dump it? About a month now, I red something about an Emotion Engine update so in my opinion, I think it is a misdirection statement. Still, a ps2 is about 100 euros which is a really good price for a console that important. Plus, while playing it only got stuck about 3 times in 6 years.

You people are missing the point of this. This just opens the door for Sony to start releasing PS2 titles on the PSN, something they'll probably announce at the Tokyo Game Show. And for all you people who complain about developers not getting any cut of used game sales from ANYWHERE (not just GameStop), this direct-to-download(?) service will be like Steam in that Sony gets most of the money for the game downloads.

For the record, I have the MGS4 80GB PS3, but I'm still keeping my PS2 because some games don't work on it like Shadow Hearts, and Growlanser Generations seems to work better on my PS2 than on the PS3.

Of course Sony wouldn't add it back, because then they'd loose a ton of cash by making console after console and forcing the general public to shell out money for each and every console they make. It's a smart idea from their point of view. But I'm not sure I will be paying 500 dollars for every single Sony console.

Especially if they start releasing them every two years or something crazy like that. PS3 is wicked awesome but if Microsoft or Nintendo starts doing backwards compt. with every system they release then you can bet Sony will bring it back just to keep up with the competition. They may say never but I'm not going to put any money on anything because technology and media as a whole is an ever changing thing.

I'm surprised none of you have really seen the pattern, Sony has denied price cuts, the PS3 Slim, more price cuts, firmware update stuff, rumble coming back, and even more price cuts since the beginning of freakin' time.

I will laugh if and/or when Sony releases a firmware update that allows Backwards Compatibility.

Well they said they had been working on firmware updates that can emulate the PS2, so I can see that coming.

The thing is, you lot make me laugh, and the 'if I want to play PS2 games, I have to crawl behind my TV and change cables' ones are even worse, at least the non PS2 owners have a legitimate argument somewhat. When I buy a PS3, I'll be buying it for PS3 games. I have a PS2, but if I didn't, I would buy a cheap PS2 to play the games.

If it is a bit irritating to switch cables every time, I'll stick the SCART lead into another slot and switch channels, something all of you HDTV owners should have, considering I keep hearing people harp on about HD this and HD that.

Failing that, I'll buy a multi SCART and a bloody multi-socket adapter, seriously this shouldn't be that much of a deal breaker for you lot, I'm surprised people out there don't own a PS2. And if one of the main reasons you wanted a current generation console was for last generation games, perhaps you shouldn't be buying the console at all.

All in all, the PS2 is generating them profit, in fact it was the only thing keeping them from the red, so why would they eliminate incentive to buy one if you want to play PS2 games? If BC was coming, they wouldn't tell you, the same reason they never told anyone about PS3 price cuts and the slim model.

I guess the PS3 haters are about, Jumplion, but they definitely aren't worse than the Wii haters. PS3 haters crawl out of the woodwork, Wii haters sit out in the open.

Since when did 360 have a huge multi-genre library? Because as far as I can see the only thing that sells or gets released nowadays is more Halo and shooters for the ADD kids. I don't even need all the fingers on one hand to count the 360s 2009 to start of 2010 exclusives, and I can get them all on PC anyway so yeah.

Infamous... that game is a solid joy ride. NOT A SINGLE game in the genre on the 360 can touch it. Not one. Hell, honestly I think it's better than GTA IV. Yes I said it. Infamous is better than GTA IV.

That doesn't take much, to be honest. GTA4 was... mediocre.

But people screaming "MY CONSOLE HAS T3H BEST GAMEZ FTW!!!": it's a matter of opinion. I personally haven't found many PS3 games that top 360's offerings, but I don't go around spreading my ideas as gospel truth.

Heh, this is one of the reasons I won't buy consoles, ever. Because with PC, there is always backwards compatibility, no matter what. Right now, I have every Fallout game installed, and they work perfectly, and I don't need to buy three separate consoles just play them.

Srsly now. I don't know what's the deal with Sony and the other console dealers. I guess they want to milk the gaming crowd even more. I'm quite sorry about how things are turning out in the gaming world nowadays...
