Sony: Backwards Compatibility Is Never Coming Back

I can see the point in that. I had an 80 gig with BC and didn't really use it. Didn't really want to buy the 12-something dollar Memory card peripheral and honestly didn't really care to play old games on the new system.

Since when did 360 have a huge multi-genre library? Because as far as I can see the only thing that sells or gets released nowadays is more Halo and shooters for the ADD kids. I don't even need all the fingers on one hand to count the 360s 2009 to start of 2010 exclusives, and I can get them all on PC anyway so yeah.

I dearly love my PS3. I quite enjoy my PS3 games. However, I ALSO love my PS2 games a great deal.

I love that my PS3 has the backwards compatability, because it lets me play those old games. Now it seems I can't upgrade. Good idea, Sony.

Also, the BC never worked that well. Alot of games for some reason couldn't be played.
Pretty annoying... But regardless, for the games that didn't work, you'd have to buy a ps2 anyway, so what's the big deal?

On the surface, it appears to be a misstep for Sony until you look at the ongoing sales figures for the PS2. It is still quite alive, folks.

100% certainty that codebreaker will still work and thusly make most of the shitty PS2 games playable.

Not saying all PS2 games are shitty, but some of them have 0 replayability without screwing with the gameplay.

Plus you can get a PS3 Slim and a PS2 Slim for about 350 bucks total now (Shipping Included). That PS2 Slim can even have some 'edits' done to it to make it even more worthwhile over the PS3 BC.

As a guy who is finally going to have all the current gen systems I can't see why folks would choose BC over the actual PS2 considering the aforementioned codebreaker and 'edits' .

I'm glad that I have one of those rare backwards compatible PS3's. But anyways backwards compatibility is a big thing for a lot of people. Sony is probably right about how people are buying PS3's to play current gen games and are probably saving a lot of money overall on manufacturing costs, but it's still a real shame how they are removing it entirely.
