Sony: Backwards Compatibility Is Never Coming Back

It looks like I'll be sitting out until the next Sony console arrives.

I doubt that will play PS2 games either.

Oh no, it'll have backwards compatibility, but only when the console comes out initially. That seems to be the way Sony operates with BC: I've opened up to their game.

I don't know, the PS2 can still play PS1 games to this day. I think.

When the PS4 comes out, I'll grab one ASAP, and laugh when BC is inevitably cut later on.

I'd like to say that I'm not feeling a bit like this right now, and if I still played on my PS2 games I probably would. But I just can't see why people would make a big deal out of this? If you really want to play PS2 games, then you should really have a PS2 knocking about somewhere (Mines in France, don't ask; long story) and if you don't, well, there are 28 used slim line PS2 for sale on Amazon right now for £44 each [http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-Slimline-Console-Black/dp/B00023HUMG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1250811605&sr=8-1].
Admittedly, that's in the UK, so little use to you. But I bet you can find a good deal somewhere! Normal PS2 are cheap as chips these days.

Again, just get a ps2. The ps3 is for next gen. It has ps1 compat and that should be good enough. Seriously, they just dropped the price, why do you want more? I already bought a PS3 before the price drop, doesn't that mean I'm allowed to be pissed that there was little point in buying it when I can't really think of anything that it does that I can't get from my 360 that's actually worth it?

Bluray - not worth it.

MGS 4 - hate metal gear games so not worth it.

I was going to list a few other exclusives but I can't actually think of any, I know they exist but my mind's gone blank.

The ONLY bright spot I personally can see in the PS3s future is Last guardian.

I bought my ps3 because I thought it would actually have decent games, but everything I've bought so far has been generic or worse than the 360 version like Fallout 3.

You know, I'm pretty sure, somewhere on the vast world of the INTERNET, you can download an update/mod whatever, to make your ps3 backwards compatible. My mate bought his just after they released the non-BC ones, so he downloaded the mod and he can play ps2 games now.

The other thing you lazy bums could do is do a Computer Science course at uni, majoring in PS3 development or something, and then program your own firmware update for the ps3 to have BC.

It's a hardware issue, not a software/firmware one.

Yes, this seems to be one less reason for me to get it, so PS2 + 360 instead

PS2 is so cheap, new or used. Lack of backwards compatibility is a poor reason to not buy a PS3. If that was the deal breaker, then you didn't really want a PS3 very badly in the first place, did you?

the thing is that if they wanted it they should have gotten one when they were out. the reason i got mine when i did was cause it had full bc in it cause i wanted that. it was rather easy just to keep your ps2 and buy a ps3.

i think they also don't want to pull the m$ version which is a software emulation and is rather broken and most games can't be played and probly won't ever be able to be played

My PS3 has total backwards compatibility, so this doesn't affect me much. Though Sony's probably got plans to sell PS2 classics on the PSN if they're gonna do this. Or at least, I hope.

It seems to me that Sony shot themselves in the foot with that move. They probably lost a bit of money because of that move. Luckily I have a backwards compatible PS3, so I can still play Persona.
