Well, you're at fault when you cast others and their opinions away like garbage. 360 fans like yourselves have a tendency to do that
And apparently that makes it ok for you to generalize and do the same. Yeah, good luck with that train of logic. And people wonder why I tend to look at Sony fans with suspicion.

In any event I think the entire impetus behind not doing this is the fact that Sony price-slashed the PS2 earlier and thus figured that was covering their butts for not ever having to do PS2 BC ever again on the PS3. And if a firmware update does come somewhere along the line? I honestly won't be surprised. Because Sony has so far proven to be a company of lies and misleading information during this console generation (that whole rumble thing for example)

WAH WAH WAH.

What is wrong with you people?
If you wanted to play PS2 games then why not just keep your PS2? It's not like you'd be able to sell it for much it now anyways. And when you could sell it or trade it in on a PS3 for a decent amount of money the PS3 was BC.

I've never once gone back to play my PS2 games because I've already played them! It's not like they are realeasing a whole bunch of exciting new PS2 games.2

I don't think sony care about a rather small minority.
It is called a difference in opinion. Nothing wrong with that.
Well, you're at fault when you cast others and their opinions away like garbage. 360 fans like yourselves have a tendency to do that
I wasn't casting other peoples differences away. If anything you are casting away peoples opinions with your assuming. I like all consoles and PCs.

How much you wanna bet they come out with downloads for the bigger PS2 titles like Microsoft did with some of the old XBOX titles. And to the people that say just keep the old ps2, what happens when those stop being sold and the one you have finally breaks down? They do break down after so much use you know.

That's a pity. My ps2 is nearly broken and I was hoping to play ps2 games on the ps3. :(

Instead, Koller says that people aren't buying the PS3 to play old games. "We've got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games," Koller said. "They've buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies."

Are they really making a profit from Blu-ray movies?
I don't see the difference between blu-ray and plain movies.

Every other company is guilty of this as well. Yet nobody calls Microsoft on it for example. Proves how ignorant anti sony people are.

Nobody used BC anyway. All of you said the PS3 was crap when they HAD BC. It's your own fault they removed it. BLAME YOURSELVES. Just buy a PS2 and be happy.
Actually, I rather enjoy the PS3. It has/had potential, but mostly lacked actual titles for the longest time.

At least it doesn't die every week...

I know. I wish more people saw that. I'm sorry if I've jumped at a few people, but what I've seen sickened me. What I've seen is that whenever a thread about the ps3 comes out, it becomes nothing but flaming, EVEN WHEN THEY DROP THE PRICE. Threads about the 360 are always filled with fanboys defending it like crazy. The 54% death rate topic, for example. As soon as the topic came along, people said the poll was flawed and that it was made up. Then, everyone suddenly had a story where 10 ps3's break on them while their xboxes are curing cancer. I'm not gonna veer off topic, so i'll call BS and stop there.

Have sony not thought that though I no longer buy PS2 games I don't wish to have all the money wasted on the ones I did buy in the past, just sitting there unplayed, because setting up both a PS3 and 2.
So now I'm at a financial loss because sony doesn't want to bring back, backward compatibility.
Plus there are some games i really enjoy on the PS2 that I will probably never play again : (

BOO Sony, I bought the PS3 firstly, because I ignorantly believed the backwards compatibility was still inside and because of how powerfull it was.
well it delivered on the power side, but upon discovering that the backwards compatibility had been removed I hoped that sony would realise there mistake and return it, either through software upgrades or simply in new models.

This man is completely right. My PS3 doesnt have backwards compatability and Im doing just fine. Its just stupid the only people complaining are people with ps2 games right? So that must mean they have a ps2 somewhere to play the games on? Why even bother turning the ps3 on. Its just stupid.

Buy a ps3 for ps3 games. Buy a ps2 for ps2 games. Theres nothing wrong with what they're doing.

Well, great. There goes all desire of mine to get a PS3.

All the other elements were in place: good games, good console pricing, all that was left was this.

It looks like I'll be sitting out until the next Sony console arrives.
My sentiments exactly. Why did they go and do this? I was just starting to regain some respect for Sony as well.

This very capability is what would have sold me a PS3. Sadly, it was never to be.

Sony: Backwards Compatibility Is Never Coming Back

Any hope for a possible return to the PS3 of PS2 backwards compatibility has been dashed away with authority by Sony's John Koller, who says the feature "won't be returning."

Keep your PS2s, folks. If you plan on upgrading to a PS3 at any time in the near future and want to play some Persona on it, you're going to have to shell out a premium for a used backwards compatible PS3, and those things are rare. Don't expect Sony to suddenly decide to have a change of heart and bring the feature back to future models of the console. They seem pretty darn sure they don't want it to happen.

"It's not coming back, so let me put that on the table," Sony's John Koller said. And despite the seemingly neverending chorus of demand for the feature, Koller says it's really not as big a deal as it looks like. "It's not as big as a purchase intent driver as you may be hearing."

Instead, Koller says that people aren't buying the PS3 to play old games. "We've got such a substantial lineup of titles on the PS3; most people are buying the PS3 for PS3 games," Koller said. "They've buying it for PS3 games and Blu-ray movies."

I don't doubt that, but there are quite a few people who'd like to use the system to play old games as well. Doesn't Koller realize that? But nope, guess he's got to say it more than once: "That won't be returning."

Does that look rare to you? It's true that people do want to be able to play their PS2 games on PS3, but why does it even matter when PS2's are dirt cheap. Hell I would have liked to have played my SNES games on my Gamecube back in the day, but they didn't have backwards compatibility on anything until the wii. With the slim PS3 coming out and the already slim PS2's it's not as if they take up much space.

I doubt that will play PS2 games either.
Oh no, it'll have backwards compatibility, but only when the console comes out initially. That seems to be the way Sony operates with BC: I've opened up to their game.

When the PS4 comes out, I'll grab one ASAP, and laugh when BC is inevitably cut later on.
I recommend it. After all, that is what I'm doing right now. For once early adopters didn't get the shaft.

However, I did find something to solve all of your BC issues and it costs less than a next gen game!

Seriously though, the only time I use BC on my ps3 is when I feel like playing metal gear, jak, or final fantasy 10. Compared to how much I use current gen games, I barely ever use the BC.

It seems odd to remove it, it works fine. The xBox 360 BC always seems to be laggy and glitchy, especially with Fable. Heh.

It's kind of funny to me because I have a backwards-compatible ps3... got it like a week after the thing was released. I play Okami and Sly Raccoon on it.

I never really thought of myself as a Sony fanboy before the PS3 came out but, upon reflection, I look back on those days when I felt truly devoted to the Sony brand and realise that the hatred I feel for them now can only be born of the aching hole in my stomach where my trust and loyalty used to be.

I can understand why they did it; if you have 2 consoles on the market, then why make one redundant? Milk them both for all they're worth! I cannot understand, however, why they still expect people to just play along. Okay, we get it, this is a business to you, and if you're not making as much money as you could be, then obviously you're doing it wrong. But there is such thing as product loyalty, and you're fast running out. Once that's gone, all you've got is a powerful albeit expensive machine with a hardcore catalogue of halo clones, racers and sports titles. And that's just the exclusives!

This isn't a plea to bring backwards capability back Sony; you've obviously already got you're mind made up about that. I just want you to quit being stupid. You're making _me_ feel dumb for believing in you, once upon a time...

If people are buying a PS3 to play PS3 games, then by that logic they should remove the ability to play PS1 games too, right? You can play those games on a PS2 as well.
