One slight issue with the story, the post is actually still there.

Likely it was reported (and thus taken down) until it could be moderated, but they left it up.

Banned twice implies temp bans as well, so might gave been a ban due to a lot or reports or something, if it was a actual proper ban wouldn't make sense that the post that caused it would still be live!

Also, it's not a company's job to uphold freedom of speech in their own services.
This is true, freedom of speech is not something you have in a private business/location. Hell you don't have full freedom of speech on this forum, there are limitations on what you can say (no hate speech etc) and this is accepted
Hahahah, "Full Freedom of Speech?" not even close, but that's a totally different topic.

OT: I too kind of like this story, it shows he's a true gamer and has a passion for what he does, unlike certain heads of other companies.

For those who will inevitably rush to bash Nintendo for this, or claim "First Amendment!!1!!!11" on it:

This is the digital equivalent of standing in the lobby of your competitor's company and boasting aloud about your love for your own brand, how it's better than your competitor's, and trying to convince people to go to your store instead. It is not "unfair" for the competitor to ask you to leave or to have you escorted off the premises as a trespasser.
While I'm not rushing at that, I do have to say there's a very fat, solid line between promoting your brand and simply stating you like (or even love) your (or anyone else's) brand. Again though, not rushing to attack Nintendo, just saying... don't think that deserved moderation at all, imagine what it'd be like if every gamer got banned from a product for mentioning their affection for another product. Imagine playing WoW and being banned for saying you love Rift in the general chat. Or playing Battlefield/CoD and saying you like/love/prefer the other (which I've seen in BF4 more times than I can recount). And so on.

Why is he honestly surprised.

I mean, it's the clearest definition of trolling according to Nintendo. And more often than not stirs up quite the storm on other platforms.

It would be the equivalent of me going on the PS network and promoting the Wii U to a bunch of console owners who clearly don't have a Wii U.

Most people will be quick to jump on the hate train and start a flamewar right then and there for promoting what they deem a shit console.

I bet that's what happened on Miiverse as well.

At least it's moderation for a general rule, and not prolonged animosity.
I mean, Nintendo is effectively responsible for unintentionally creating their greatest rival in the Playstation.

The oldest comments on the post are from 12/2012 also. This is a pretty old event that he's referring to. It's likely the post is still there because the ban was temporary or overturned. The same way someone banned from these forums has their post hidden, but people can still view it. Just a guess, as I don't have a WiiU or would likely even use the MiiVerse if I did.

Err, you do realize you are on The Escapist?
More like pre-empting the inevitable posts. This is The Escapist, after all, where the word "Nintendo" in an article triggers an instant Pavlovian response of "oh, that game company for babies? HARDY HAR HAR". Thanks, Yahtzee/Obama.

What if you're just a fan of both? I think they were monitoring his account closely because they knew who he is. If they would ban anyone for saying they love another product then that's bullshit.
MeChaNiZ3D said:
Well no it isn't, it's more like wearing a shirt promoting another company while reading in the lobby. You're not intruding on anyone else, they have to observe you to see your company promotion, and it isn't an attempt at conversion.

I think that the far more likely situation is that he did an awful lot more than just proclaim "I love PS" a single time. It's not that easy to get a Wiiverse ban, otherwise I'd agree that it's semi-petty.

But we're likely never to hear Nintendo admit to the details surrounding it, because they tend not to leak details about the circumstances of individual service bans. And Yoshida probably isn't going to be telling us about his misadventures, either. :p
I'd agree but this is a Miiverse post, not a wiiverse. The mods on the wii u's posting are super ultra strict. They are aaaaalways watching. Its really very impressive, I have to work to find the trolls doing funny things.

I'm personally glad that we've got a Sony Exec who actually likes gaming enough to go onto Miiverse and play around and play different games. Better than just another business suit who walks in from his job in Apple or British Airways or whatever and knows nothing about gaming.

I love Yoshida.

They guy's pretty damn funny when he wants to be, and he's built a pretty good relationship with fans. The very fact that he's so open kind of makes him stand out to other executives.

Hah.

In defence of the Miiverse it is very well moderated, they tend to deal with bullshit quickly and effectively, and it does make it a nicer place to be when all the trolls are nuked from orbit.
Now if only Microsoft could pick up the pace on their "griefer hell" idea they announced a while back. Unless they've already started it and its just been that damn long since I last played a console of any sort.....college sucks sometimes.

So wait, he got banned for just saying that he likes Playstation? There's a difference between keeping a community friendly and going all totalitarian on your users.

THOU SHALT NOT HAVE ANY CONSOLES BESIDES ME!
Well MiiVerse has the rule of don't advertise a product and the PS, competition or not, is a product. It's similar to getting slapped on the wrist on the escapist for giving a two word post. Those two words could be 'Escapist Rulz' or 'NeoGAF SUX' for all they care it's still only two words.

wait, so if i understood this correctly, he got banned for saying that he loves playstation?
This is on the level of the only time i got banned from a SAMP server because i said in chat that i dont agree with another person claiming that this server is the best and i like another better. i didnt evne say the name, they insta-banned me for not thinking their server is the best. fun times.

and you would get a low content warning, not advertising warning.

I honestly couldn't tell you if they have since I don't yet own an X1.

Hell I only just bought a 360 tody (and got every exclusive I missed for £25, at least the ones I'm interested in.)

Griefer hell sounds like a good idea though, just not sure how it'd work out. Steam should implement something similar.

Agreed, but I'm just going by the information given here. Still, I can't imagine the guy who has every single console went out and spammed "this sucks, go buy a PS" or something. It'd have to go a LOT farther than "I love PS" in fact before I'd consider that a legitimate ban.

The basic idea is fantastic. Allow for player behavior rating post game. The rating drops with negative ratings and when that person gets tries match making he'll get stuck with people of a similar rating. Therefore all the racist and sexist griefers and trollers would all eventually end up stuck together and away from everyone else. I suppose if you can't stop them you can at least coral them away from everyone else. There is room for abuse of course but its freaking Microsoft. They have money and smart people. They could figure it out.
