Yeah, I was thinking that...but I don't see the logic of it. Sure, they could release more serious stuff later, but what do they gain by letting people know that they can?
I figure it's just someone playing pranks on anyone interested in the situation (Sony, users, the real thieves and etc.) since it's so old (what it's from a 10 year old list?) PS3 came out about 5-6 years ago so it couldn't even be considered linked in anyway to information gathered by Playstation Network (that's only for the PS3).

Yeah, if it is, what would Sony do to stop the killing blow? Just give up and close the company? If it is, I don't see the sense... Well, I don't see the sense regardless, but whatever.

You know, I really have to say I'm getting quite tired of these tabloid-esque titles to these news articles. The title was obviously misleading, and suggested much more information was at danger than really was judging from the article.

I made this post because no one else did, and there seems to be a few reactions of "This title had me frightened, but..."

My annoyance mostly stems from the fact that there have been a few titles like this in the past few months, and I have a great love of this website. I want it to shine, and not become another one of those boring lowbrow gaming websites. Please, you have the skill. Just use it.

OT: This hacking situation sure has gotten old. I really wish they'd give it up, there's nothing more left to prove at this point. :\

(Forgive the bad flow of words please, I don't normally make posts.)
It seems so. The Escapist has been trumpeting useless information about Anonymous, GeoHotz and Sony while trying to make it look as sensationalist as possible. It is sad really because there is a lot of great information about gaming available at the moment. THQ fiscal budged has been revealed to be in the negative again, with Homefront being their best selling game and I'm sure there is a lot of buzz about the upcoming E3.
Instead we get Fox News...
I'm sorry you don't find the on going uncertainty of leaked information of one of the big three console platform networks boring and/or excessively discussed but at least until the Network is back-up and/or the one(s) responsible for the theft are put to justice a lot of other people are gonna be interested.
"If you only report what you think is the truth some of it will be if you're not completely in denial." From me.

Sony Hackers Publish Stolen Personal Information Online

The hackers likely behind the recent Sony attacks decided to publish the stolen personal information of 2,500 people online.

I've got some good news and some bad news. Here's the bad news: The hackers that were probably behind the attacks on the Sony Online Entertainment [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109568-Sony-Admits-Private-PSN-Info-Has-Been-Stolen-All-Of-It] recently published a horde of stolen personal information online. The good news: It was evidently something that anyone could just look up in a phonebook.

Reuters reports that the hackers uploaded the names and partial addresses of 2,500 Sony sweepstakes contestants to a website. The sweepstakes occurred all the way back in 2001, so the information was largely outdated. The published data did not include credit card information, passwords, or anything else more useful to the criminal underworld.

"The website was out of date and inactive when discovered as part of the continued attacks on Sony," Sony told Reuters in a statement. The website was immediately taken down and was apparently controlled by Sony.

While it sucks to have to try and remember if we entered one of Sony's contests back in 2001, this incident seems like it could have been a lot worse. Names and addresses are easy to obtain even for those of us that don't have the ability to maneuver through a firewall using a kernel vulnerability. The move looks like more of a taunt than anything else, but I just hope that the hackers stick to publishing sweepstakes information from 10 years ago and stay away from the harder stuff.

Reuters just updated, saying that Sony has removed the information.

A definate test of skill from the hackers if you ask me. They are toying with sony who (from the looks of it) have no idea how to find them!
This was actually quite fun i think. Not harmful, just kinda fun. If they had done something like that instead of credit card theft i would support them.
But still: Go to hell... please...

I don't understand the hackers' inclination to fuck over a bunch of people who haven't done anything to them.
I'm extremely inclined to believe the hackers were former PS3'ers who got fed up with Sony's corporate fucktard-ism and decided to show them who's boss. You know, for hyping their so-called "super lawyers" and generally acting like fascists.

Uhh... what exactly is that? and does it leave red smears after firing?
Ah, my apologies. Obscure Doctor Who reference.

The D-Mat Gun is quite possibly weaponized time in rifle form. It is said that Rassilon wiped out many a being who would probably ruin the universe and time itself with this weapon, and was forbidden after his entombment. However, in the Tom Baker era of Doctor Who, he managed to create the weapon to deal with the Sontarons in The Invasion of Time.

The D-Mat Gun, as I have read, is exceptionally powerful. It appears to erase things (Dematerialize them) from existence, but apparently a weapon powered by no less than the Great Key of Rassilon actually re-writes the whole damn universe so that even the possibility of that thing existing is no longer possible.

Suffice to say, denying existence to those who waste it is a worthwhile pursuit.

What do the hackers truly "gain" by doing this to people?
The chance to embarrass a massive international multi billion dollar electronics company, which they are doing nicely
I guess it's a great time to invest in Sony stocks while their still down...
That's assuming they recover but they probably will so yeah go for it

I want blood. Blood of those hackers. Garbage in human form, fit only to be exterminated.
Every time someone posts something like this, serious or not, hackers get motivated.

Also giving themselves a chance to piss off a massive international multi billion dollar electronics company, the FBI, and many other big shots who will if they catch them, fuck them so hard they won't be able to walk straight ever again.

Best avatar I have ever seen.

OT: Clearly, some people just want to watch the world burn, unless they've released demands for Sony. At least they have some moral standards, I mean they could have done a lot worse even if it is just a simple warning shot. Let's hope that it doesn't get any worse.

I won't myself due to lack of financial capability; I was giving advice to those who can.
