charging for PSN i can live with, but wow...big headed much?

(He also predicted that in spite of its later start, the PlayStation 3 would soon surpass the Xbox 360 in worldwide units sold. "I don't think they'll be around in 10 years so I'm very confident we'll pass them within that time frame. I mean, we've got 31 million [units sold] worldwide right now - they've got 39 million [units sold]," he said. "I don't even need to go out 10 years... You look at where we are today and where they are today, and they had an opportunity to sprint as far ahead of us as possible when they had the head start. Well, we're breathing down their necks and they can see us in the rearview mirror and it's not going to take too long to pass them.")

im sorry, but as far as anyone is concerned Xbox will be around in 10 years time, making that assumption now is daft.

somehow i doubt PS3 will pass Xbox in sales (they could...i just doubt it) especially if they are going to make people pay for PSN.

if your gonna make a statement like that, at least back it up with evidence or proof that you will, no one can predict the future.

Oh, boo hoo. They're considering charging. So what?

people say XBOX Live doesn't cost much. So I'd gladly pay for this.

Either that or I'd just stop playing games together. Oh well. I'll see where it takes me.

Well... I better post this up before I say anything.

Now, I feel like PSN needs to be MASSIVELY upgraded before it charges for anything. XBL is so good because it's constantly upgraded, making it more user friendly. It seems like XBL is better for having fun and keeping in touch with friends. You and your friends can now watch movies together in an XBOX live party, it seems stupid, but the idea is actually quite neat!

I also found that PSN has a nasty habit of getting... overloaded I guess. Basically, it was hard as hell to get into a game on MW2 the first week or so it was out, and I have dynamite internet.

I don't mind PSN charging, but I feel like they will have to do a lot to catch up to XBL.

EDIT:: Also, by charging, PSN will only get better. Don't complaing about paying for something if it will only get BETTER.
Thank you! Someone finally sees reason. And yeesh, when XBOX live charges all they want, and when they consider making you pay TWICE as much, nobody thinks twice. But the second Sony begins having those thoughts, oh boo hoo! Everyone gets on the WAAAAMbulance and starts cutting themselves.

Seriously, it's not the end of the world.

I would like it to remain free, but if it comes down to it, I'll pay for online.
To my mind your missing the point.

I own both a xbox and a ps3 though I didnt buy the ps3 till just after xmas last year, the reason being money. Yes boys and girls money makes the world go around and as I'm on my third xbox an its started looking pale and shaking from side to side saying "disc error: cant read disc" I decided that rather then throwing good money after bad, that I'd get a ps3.

Now I enjoy online gaming and have done so for many years on my pc but I point blank refused to pay for xbox live, instead reassuring myself that the money I saved would help buy my lovely new ps3 and I could play online (for free) once more. So hearing news that they may start charging for online gaming, not one month after forking out the funds required for the black monster (and justifying to myself and my wife the cost of my soul in relation to the enjoyment I would be getting from playing online) I think I have a right to be somewhat pissed off to hear that one of the major selling points would be taken away from us.

Seeing as most games are multi format these days the big selling points to me for ps3 over xbox were 1) hardware reliability and 2) free online multiplayer. I understood that it wasnt as good online as xbox live but I can live with the occasional problems as sony keep saying that "we have a ten year plan" and the service has gotten substancially better then say a year ago an if their ten year plan slogan is to be believed then it should only get better. oh and again it was free, and anything free is better then anything you paid for.

Make no mistake this is money grabbing at its finest, and I for one am not impressed.

OT: I hope that after "looking at" charging for PSN, Sony realise that having the most expensive console AND squeezing the remaining pennies out of few people who bought one, is not going to endear them to onlookers who will quite happily buy a xbox instead. And xbox live. And some games. And time shares in ps3 owners souls. Maybe a burger too, but not with cheese - that'll cost you extra.

One: The suggestion that Sony Fanpeople would be angered by something Sony did is hilarious. This is ammo for Xbox Fanpeople, and that is all. The role of Sony Fanpeople in this case is as apologists.

Two: Qore already contains some aspects of the purported "Premium PSN" service. That would be how I got into the MAG Beta earlier than some, but later than others.

Three: Just as an Occam's razor sort of deal (I know that this is not a valid application of Occam's razor, I'm just pointing to the line of thought that it represents), the idea that Sony will charge a premium for access to a store in which they would like you to spend money, is a straw-man sort of thing to get angry about preemptively. I do not think they will do it in a million years, just as Live would be nuts if they charged you for the right to look at and buy for-pay content. If Sony is that insane, then feel free to be outraged when it actually happens. Not worth a preemptive twist of your underoos.

EDIT: Corrected spelling and capitalization.

If Sony charges for PSN they they'll lose any advantage over live (I do prefer live anyways). The only thing PSN has over live besides being free is that literally no one uses a head set so no one has the chance to become a douche.
Do you even play online? No seriously, do you? every time I play MW2, MAG, or Resistance 2, there are always at least 5 guys with mics. Hell, I think Xbox online is more quiet with the fucking party system no one ever uses game chat.

Since I'm anti-social, I'm not a fan of online gaming (even though as a PS3 owner it's presently free), though several friends (who are slight fanboys) will be affected quite badly.

I would just stop playing PS3 games online, then. If it was an optional type thing, sure, I'd keep playing, but I won't pay for extra content, but if it's a mandatory fee, absolutely not.

How exactly did they look in their rearview mirrors if they're sprinting? Did they have mirrors installed on their wrists? And if their necks are being breathed on, why wouldn't you just run faster instead of looking in your mirror?

OT: I think the PS3's sales will plummet if they start charging. A lot of my friends only got the PS3 because they didn't want to pay for XBL. I think the free PSN and exclusive titles are all the PS3 have going for it. I'm not sure, I haven't done my research.

P.S. On a side note I am a happy PS3 owner, but I play my 360 a lot more often.

P.P.S. Did I use too many abbreviations?

Wow, just reading that made me feel like I was being drowned in desperation. Sony has failed miserably this generation and are continuing to do so.

And i think you're missing the point that I'm making. You just said microsoft can charge all they want and nobody will mind.

But if ANYONE else tried to charge, that makes them automatically wrong. Which is very flawed logic. I'm afraid it's console bias at it's very deepest.

It doesn't matter if Sony kept it free till now. It's still no different from Microsoft should they decide to charge.

It would definitely benefit them to continue keeping free online, but you're all overreacting WAYYYY too much if they charge for some premium service.

The only way I can see it being wrong is if they do charge, but PSN remains technically inferior to XBOX live. But really, it's a depression in the economy, so I expect all the companies to be cutting back.

But I'm just ranting again. I really, really don't wanna pay for online. Just wasted money, tbh. And you know, it reminds me of an article earlier where MS said you have to re-buy all your games again when going into the XBOX Live arcade. Same thing here.

All I'm really saying is that it kinda sucks that there's some type of double standard set up in the industry. I don't approve.

I wouldn't mind paying just not something ridiculous but equal or less than that for Live. I would prefer if they left the core online, like just going online but having to pay for PSN store and extras like that.

Well I don't really play online that much as it is, but I can definitely seeing this as a way of making me chastise online gaming as the bane of my existence (it's already pretty close, considering how many games have excluded split-screen for it).

Seriously, though, if I buy MAG and they start charging for online, I better get my freaking money back!

I think that the CEO should step down and have some else take his place. I mean come on, Sony is the worst company on the planet. They do not care for its consumers, and they are always late on releasing patches or DLC for every game that come out. Look at what they did to Socom Confrontation. They gave it to a mediocre company that never created a PS3 game and than torpedoed the franchise. I mean seriously, if their support for the PS3 is bad now how will they promise us the consumers that Online support will top the Xbox360 support. I am a hard core PS3 fan. I love my PS3 and I will not go back to 360. But I would rather pay for a service that the servers are going to work and there would be no lag and the support is up to par. Sony has so far disappointed it's consumers of its lack of support of its games and lack of unprofessional ism.Now I would only consider paying for the service if and only if the support for the PS3 is better than the Xbox360 or just as good. Time will tell if the CEO and his company decides to make this happen.

"Home is a three-dimensional community and environment that isn't possible on the other platforms and wasn't imagined by anyone other than the folks at Sony,"
This seems to be receiving no comments, and I suppose it is a little out of the topic for this discussion, but: Huh?

I may be missing something, but just how is Home not possible on any other console? Both the Wii and 360 already have player made avatars and I find it rather hard to believe that neither Nintendo or MS could make online "worlds" for them to gather in. Sure, they haven't (yet) but "not possible" That's just a joke.

Oh, and online meeting areas with user created avatars have been around for quite a while last I checked, they just usually take place in fantasy settings and some of the avatars have pointy ears. To say that they were only imagined by "the folks at Sony" is another crock of you know what.
