Wow. I've never seen anyone so effectively convince me not to buy a product. Congratulations Mr. Treton. I will never buy the NGP thanks to your attitude.

It's funny to see people still thinking that DS is indeed for kids because it lacks shooters.
Like playing shooters=adults. Lol insecure teenagers. Always think that "dark, sex and violence=adults".

Extra Credits should try to explain the "for adults" phenomenon.

Poppycock! I play my DS quite a bit lately with the new Pokemon and Dragon Quest games. I never liked the PSP in the first place. Being arrogant won't get people to play your systems.

Self respect? What's that? Sorry Sony, but I guess I'm just to busy playing pokemon to care about your pathetic market-driven posturing.

Heh, no wonder the guy throwing the insults is such an uncouth prick. He works for SCE of America, the same dickwads that are trying to sue Hotz. I hope he flips them the bird and wins, then counter-sues them for all the crap they've put him through.

I'm going to post a comment off a recent Engadget article, that I think is somewhat relevant.

"Nintendo has lost touch with reality. The 3DS sacrificed way too much portable power, capability, and features a modern portable gamer expects to make it out in March and with 3d. The games cost too much, the 3d is not being pushed as something that is essential to the experience (arguably for good reason), and many features that should be there on day 1 are not. Not to mention there are no good first party launch titles worth buying for $40 and the only thing resembling must-have are either tech demos or ports.

To cost more than the low-end iPod Touch is also rather silly. The 3DS is less capable, has insanely worse battery life, its games cost more, and you can't even trade your DS in because you'll lose access to your DSi games you've purchased. Let's also add in that the device seems poorly designed for online gaming with someone else (due to no convenient way to communicate with them in-3DS). Let's remember how quaint it was using a stylus back when the DS launched and now fast forward to 2011 when capacitive touchscreens are all the rage and Nintendo wants us... to pull out another stylus on an even smaller touch screen with a 320x240 resolution.

If the 3d was worth all of this sacrifice in hardware and battery life and screen resolution (on either the main screen or the touchscreen), then maybe I could say, okay. Investment made sense. But the 3d is not. It drains the already-short battery life, massive reports suggest people are trying the 3d, getting tired of fiddling with it, and are turning it off. Which makes this an expensive DS2 that doesn't (yet) pull games from DSi's, doesn't have the promised virtual store, doesn't have browsing, doesn't have a Mario/Zelda/Metroid, doesn't have modern touchscreens, doesn't have hardware to match the iPhone/iPod Touch 4, let alone the 5 that will surely come in no time...

Nintendo has lost touch with reality, the reality of gaming. This is why ahead of 3DS they were complaining about how iOS gaming was going to devalue gaming and lead to the end times. Because they are afraid that if the value argument on gaming (that they started with the DS when the PSP came out and continued with the Wii when they were cheaper than the 360 and PS3 since they had regurgitated the GC hardware in making it) continues to its natural conclusion, they are going to be put to pasture. If they don't think gaming should get cheaper and cheaper, then perhaps the should not have suggested it back in the day when they had inferior hardware but superior pricing..."
I really hope this is actually a dig at Sony...

The PS3 was released with an astronomical price tag, no worthwhile exclusive titles for a long time and a graphics driven "gimmick" that essentially provided nothing essential to the games.

Why is there so much judgment being thrown about right now? It seems people already know the courses of one handheld that's been out in North America for less than two weeks and another that doesn't even yet exist in a widely tangible form.

You can take execs to task for putting their feet in their mouths, but be careful not to do the same in the process. The strengths of the main three companies has been pretty dynamic over the course of the past decade, and throwing stuff like the iPhone in the mix is threatening to shake things up even further.

It's too early to say the 3DS is a failure out of the gate, but it's also WAY too early to say the NGP won't be worth it. Sit back, have a beverage of choice, and enjoy whatever systems make you happy while watching things play out.

And for that, I pity him.
You are so right.

Apparently those audiences have no self respect. Nor the audiences of Harvest Moon, Pokemon (come on everyone in college is playing it!), Ghost Trick, Okamiden, or any of the other games who are obviously not made completely for children

I would tell Sony that shovelware =/= system made for kids

They are just bitter because their audience is smaller on the PSP

I question how the NGP will somehow magically be "for adults" simply because of its improved internal components.
I think it's because the heavy hitters of Nintendo are all rated E for everyone and kid friendly, whereas most of what are considered the big Sony games are Mature titles which are not kid friendly. Look at the playstation exclusives compared to the Nintendo main franchises.

I'm not saying that older people don't enjoy Nintendo products, they obviously do, but Nintendo games are catered in such a way as to appeal to younger audiences.

Whereas games like Grand Theft Auto, Heavy Rain, etc are not meant for children.
Resident Evil. Two of them actually.

Unless you're talking about just Nintendo themselves, in which case I should point out that this time lots of 3rd party developers are actually MAKING games for the Nintendo 3DS this time instead of just Nintendo and a few other companies

I'm not reading all 6 pages.

I just love how he insulted the majority of gamers on college campuses since almost everyone I know bought one :/.

Tretton proves that Sony can't stop putting their feet in their mouths.

Let's see, I'm 25, I bought my DS Lite 3-4 years ago, and it has gotten almost non-stop playing time from me, except for almost a year break when I thought it was broken, turns out that I played it so much it got tired and needed a break. Now it magically works fine and it gets used everyday.

I've got at least 1000 thousand hours of play time out of it.

While reading that article you posted, whoever wrote that thing gives off the serious case of "the bleh".

When I read an article like that, after about a paragraph or so, I still read on cause I try to finish articles I start, but I get this sound in my head of somebody going, "blleeeeehhhhh."

This is why I get the "bleh" feel from that article:

The article is just too negative and doesn't even look at the reason why things are the way they are. Every new generation of device will have its problems, usually more than one. Example: I'm glad I waited for the DS Lite way back, because I held my friends original DS, it was just too bulky. I know the 3DS has some bulk to it compared to the DS Lite, but that is to be expected for such new hardware.

Everything gets more expensive with each generation, so that doesn't bother me, it is to be expected with the new and latest technology. People are complaining about the 250 buck price, come on, it is only 50 bucks more than the PSP when it first came out. I have a PSP, but I won it in a college poker tournament, I would never have bought one because of the price and the blandness of it. Though back then I went out of my way to save the money to buy the DS Lite when it came out, 120 bucks if I remember correctly. I wasn't in a position to make money when the original came out.

I still play my DS Lite each day, while my PSP gathers dust. The DS was more successful because it first concentrated on being a gaming device and it innovated with the dual screens with the bottom being a touch screen, the only real innovations that the PSP had was that you could put music on it and watch movies. What's the problem with that Sony? Well the problem is I buy a hand held gaming device to play games.

With the new hardware, the 3DS will be well worth the price. And seriously, who cares if the games are 40 bucks, that is just 5 bucks more the new regular DS titles. Pokemon White was 35 bucks and I've already got almost 90 hours clocked in on that, well worth 35 bucks, heck that is more playtime than most of my console games that I got for 60 bucks. That play time margin gets even bigger if I go back to Pokemon Diamond version, which has over 410, Pearl around 200 Heart Gold is approaching 200 hours. Advanced Wars Days of Ruin: At least 80 hours. LoZ: Phantom Hourglass, even though didn't like it and didn't finish it: close to 80 hours. I've done a lot with Brain Age 2, especially the Sudoku puzzles.

Looking back on what I've paid for my DS Lite and my small library of games and compare to how much use I've gotten out of it all, what I paid for that entertainment is a steal.

When I eventually get a 3DS, even if I have to pay full price, if I get half as much fun and play time out of it as I have my DS Lite, it will be well worth it.

What I think people forget is, they aren't just purchasing the hardware and software; they are also purchasing entertainment time. I'm not much of a movie goer, but think of how much people pay to see a movie in the theater these days. You get to see a one and a half to 3 hour movie once, for what(it was 12 bucks a person to see a movie last time went). I guess people are paying it to see it on a bigger screen, but in the end if I wait I can buy the movie when it comes out on DVD for close to that much and watch it as many times I as a want. That is value by entertainment hours. If the movie is really good, it gets multiple watches, furthering the value of the purchase because of the entertainment time.

Let's say I buy a 3DS and one game, with tax it is a little over 300 bucks. I get the entertainment of the interesting little mini-games that the 3DS comes with, the extra little things like the camera, and the game I buy, and the possible fun experience I have with no glasses 3D. Even if I got just 150 hours of playtime with just that it would be worth the money because that is just 2 or so bucks for each hour. Considering how other entertainment areas are like when compared on a cost to use hours scale, the 3DS is a great value. The only difference is that the 3DS is a one time cost instead of leeching the money out slowly over time like with other media.

The only problem with what I am saying is that many consumers in this industry have developed a weird sense of how much value a game has with hours of entertainment to cost. Paying 12 dollars or more for an awesome movie that has lasts usually 3 hours at the most. But paying 60 bucks for an awesome game that lasts at least 60 hours is down right expensive and it is evil for retailers to charge that much. Comparing what I just said, four bucks or more for each hour of entertainment is a better value than one buck for each hour of entertainment. What? It makes no sense. People are so head up on people taking the games industry serious compared other media, but many gamers complain even when they are getting a better entertainment value for their buck than other media.

Despite the fact that the Nintendo has some mature titles and everyone can enjoy it, it still has more games which cater to children and thus Sony's claims of being more for adults is not completely wrong.

I mean they could've said it better... but I don't think anyone would disagree that Sony is targeting an older audience in general.

This guy misses the point. It's about what developers can do with the technology. To steal some of this guys fire, "The idea that this guy thinks he knows what is going on is cute, but what does he really know about motion gaming?". Also.... Sony failed with motion gaming (so far) where Nintendo was very successful with it.

Ok, Sony are officially just pricks. Been trying so hard not to be so blunt, and vulgar, but come on? All Sony does is trash talk Nintendo for doing things better than them (portable gaming, 3D, not being douche bags ALL the time)

Seriously, Sony just says stupid things all the time that show they are idiots.

Price doesnt matter
Glasses are important for 3D
Key Codes for Consoles

I'd really like someone to point out how Reggie Fils Aime acts like a dick. Not "oh he says this and talks like this" bull crap. I want physical proof.

And while we're at it, prove to me that he's as bad (even though he isn't bad at all in my opinion) at Tretton. Show me a SINGLE SENTENCE that he has uttered that has single-handedly insulted several generations of gamers. Because that, ladies and gentlemen, is what Jack Tretton did with that statement.

Two companies make competing products.
Said products are quite expensive
Usually, most people will only buy one type of product
Each company would like a customer to buy their product instead of the other company's product

Therefore: Each company will lamely and unimaginatively disparage the other's product in a bid to delude SIMPLETONS into buying their product exclusively.

Every company does this. And it never fails to work. On the simpletons.

EDIT: And what do you expect them to say? "Oh the 3DS is just a MARVELLOUS system that is reasonably priced and will do very well! We thank Nintendo for creating a product that will eat into our market share! BRAVO!". If they are going to say ANYTHING about the 3DS, they will, OF COURSE, say something negative about it!

This just in: FoxNews thinks CNN is crap and CNN thinks FoxNews is crap! Microsoft doesn't think much of the PS3, and Sony doesn't think much of the Xbox! Left-Wing Communists and Nationalist-Fascists tend to hate one another! Democrats and Republicans would prefer you to vote for them instead of the other guy! Also, the sky is blue! And we're getting reports that people drink water!
