Well at least xbots dont have to wait for promises and gets to have fun NOW, and not at some point in the future. (well they have finally got great games for the ps3, but it took some time, home isnt even out yet).
Wait, what? I can't recall that many games, let alone good games, on the 360s launch either. While I agree, the Ps3 had a shortage of games when it came out, it's nothing new in the "consul warz".

It take about a year or two for the momentum to get going, some bloom earlier than others I guess.

EDIT: though, god damnit, I may have missed the point again. Yeesh, I need better glasses or something. And HOME is out, just FYI, unless you're in a country that doesn't have it yet for some reason.
Heheh, sorry I thought it was still a some sort of open beta. About releases, if you want you could see gametrailers and search for xbox releases 05, and ps3 releases O6 to see release titles. Not saying that my comment is THAT valid now, but I wrote this just because I remembered how long it was since the first ps3 games was shown (like killzone 2).

Now if only alan wake is alive will come out this year...

Well for the 360 console itself, his statement is absolutly 100% true, in my case and all my friends who onw 360's as well, they have all had the red ring of death!
Oh my... you appear to have caught the stick by the wrong end... He means the longevity of the technology, as opposed to specific consoles. Also i know about 30 people with 360s and not a single one has had RROD
I don't think RROD hurts the 360, I mean, I've paid for 2 xbox360's because of RROD, so effectively they've made twice as much money out of me. Then again, I did wear out 2 PS1's, so bought 3 of them from Sony, and have bought 2 PS2's also. Only 1 PS3 so far, but we'll see...

You know, Sony likes to bash Microsoft a lot for no good reason. Sony, you guys used to be the console kings. PS2 is the finest game system I've ever played, and I think now they just don't want to admit that they fucked up.

The problem with doing a 10 year life cycle is that technology is constantly advancing and the PS3 will soon become out of date

I'll still be using my PS3 in 10 years. Unless someone else releases a better format that catches on better than Blu-Ray has. Even then, I'll be buggered if I'm buying Wall-E or 300 again just so I can run it on this mythical new system, so I'll probably still use PS3 even then. Unless the new format's player runs Blu-Rays for the sole purposes of pissing Sony off. Then I'll fire my mystical black monolithic blu-ray player into Jupiter.

While I'm sure the PS3 is a good machine, this almost constant sniping from Sony is getting boring.
Agreed. Sony, just shut up. Microsoft, whatever else they are, aren't as damn petty as this.

Last I heard, Microsoft and Sony had roughly the same projected lifespan for their consoles; ten years, give or take a few. In all honesty, either company would be mad to let the other release a console before them (giving them a massive market share; see the PS2) or after them (giving it better technology; see the Xbox), so I wouldn't be surprised if they release at roughly the same time, like they have done with this generation.

This one annoyed me, though: "they've never had a console that's been on the market for more than four or five years and we've committed to a ten year life cycle, so you do the math."
They've had *one*, not including the Xbox 360's currently unfinished lifespan. I call this unfair, unless I'm wrong (and I don't think I am, naturally).

None of this is fact, of course, it's entirely based on my own thoughts.

I have to agree; there's no way I'd buy any of the Xbox launch titles. Besides, the numbers are only 18 to 12 anyway, it's not that much of a difference (note: this is literally just launch titles, I'm not counting ones that came out really early on - go ask the Wikipedia).

I think I've had the red ring of death a total of 5 times actually. Everytime I call MS a box showed up I shipped it off at no cost and got a brand new console (last time with two free games) in about a month. I have never seen any other company honor a warranty so well.

This is why the 360 is, to me, better than the PS3.

Sorry Kazzy, but "It'll get better! TRUST US! DONT LEAVE ME!!"

Get's old after the tenth time.
Well, if the choice is mildly entertaining today, or greatness tomorrow, I'm glad I held out for LBP.
I'm white enough to afford all 3.

Mwahaha.

In seriousness, Fallout 3 is more than mild. Also, 2009, FFXIII, ME2, and others.

It was an interview.

Is your perception score like 3?

EDIT: I do wonder whether he was speaking through a translator though...
You say that our comments should have total context, but when Kaz is talking about his own company, he must speak in isolation, ignoring the relevant context of how they might be officially responding to their current position in the market?

And, the source of the question may be friendly, but given the numbers on the ground, it's actually pretty bold to even broach the subject. You'd rather they kept their customers in the dark to any information about their stance and attitude to the larger market? They should just lay down and let all the stories about xmas sales cement some false narrative about inevitability?

I don't agree with the underlying premise I intuit from your arguments. If I'm wrong, lets do keep discussing it.
You've completely misunderstood what I've said. In the very same post that you've quoted, I explained my position on this particular comment from Mr Hirai.

When I talk about context, I mean other recent comments from Sony, such as this chart [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.82948]. Their entire marketing strategy at the moment seems to be focused on the shortcomings of their competitors, rather than the strengths of their own products. It's a subtle difference admittedly, but it's there.
Maybe because they are facing the fallout of a fairly slow xmas and stuff like this [http://www.wired.com/techbiz/it/magazine/17-02/ff_killgoogle] from their main competitor. That the entire game industry has to be instructed in the practice of astro-turfing and FUD saddens me to no small degree. At least Kaz Hirai has the balls to stand up and be quoted bashing his competitor instead of relying on paid trolls to do it for him. In the context of fighting spin, FUD, and astroturf this marketing strategy makes perfect sense to me.

Was he specifically asked about the XBox 360? and that joke wasn't original, nor funny.
