Sony can't really insult Nintendo, I'm sure they had a partnership years ago.
Honestly, they should just join hands and sing round the campfire!

I agree with his point about Nintendo; people who would have bought a PS3 are still going to buy one even if they bought a Wii also. I heavily doubt their sales are effective.

However, this constant sniping at the 360 is getting rather old. It's already been three years since the 360's launch, and the old girl still seems to have a lot of life to live. I personally would be prepared to buy a new Xbox console in two or three years time, as I'd have already spent six years with it. Sony's over-confidence in their product may well lead to their downfall. Look at what happened to Sega. They really need to start viewing the 360 as serious competition, as many people I know who were die-hard PS and PS2 fans are shrugging and buying a 360, not seeing that the grass is growing to well on Sony's side of the bridge. And whilst the 360's grass may not be as long and green in many patches, Sony have got to realise that the harsh sun of recession IS shining down on them, and that most consumers (being those who are maybe not as informed as you or I bear in mind) will be thinking in the short term. What games do they have now? What do they cost? Is Blu Ray they great? And do I really want to have to buy an HDTV to see all the benefits of the more expensive console. In games terms, it depends what you're in to, but as it stands, the 360's library can't be disregarded. I myself much prefer it.

I'll admit, I'm always gonna be biased against Sony no matter whose running against it, after what they did to Sega. However, I wish them well, and hope the PS3 gets back on track, as you always need two decent consoles for the hardcore gamer to keep competitiveness thriving. But Sony isn't fighting back, because they think they've already won.

Anyway I don't see why people are defending PS3 here, nobody has said it was bad (I'll even say the PS3 is cool). People are just pointing out the bitching coming from sony is annoying.
There is no bitching, sony has simply started doing what it should have been doing all along.
ADVERTISING and informing it's potential customer base.
Then to be blunt, they are doing it wrong. As all but the PS3 owners have said they seem petty. If they talked about the strength of the PS3 then it would be normal, but they mainly talk about the shortcomings of the 360 and ignore the Wii.

Both of those things are bad.
Well if you mean pointing out that they have the best value for money console is some how petty then by all means keep fooling youself.
This is how ever what they need to be doing, far too many people really believe the Xbox is cheaper then the PS3 or that a console which was designed to last maybe 4-6 years (heat sensitive parts almost right next to heat generating parts, I C WAT U DID THERE MICROSOFT)is reliable because microsoft will fix it when it dies.

Although potentially it may seem like PS3 are being petty, because their strengths (value, console power + reliability) are the 360s weaknesses.

Because people seem to willfully ignore the systems strengths, as the depressing sales of a game that consistently came out as Game of the year show. People then say they want something cheap. Sony then responds by showing the figures - their system is cheaper overall than the 360.
You're talking like a General Motors design team. "OMG the Escalade has lots of strengths, it's the most comfortable SUV on the market!" Maybe, but folks aren't necessarily looking for upscale SUVs right now. The "correct" marketing approach is not to convince us that we all want SUVs, because mid-sized cars cost more if you buy a trailer to match the cargo room and digital satellite radio because that's not included in mid-sized cars, and then dismiss compact cars as not the market they were targeting.

The PS3 might be cheaper if you want everything that's included, but if you don't care about Blu-ray and already use an Ethernet-based network then the 360 beats it in price. Add in that the console was the last-in of this current run, and that Sony's done a middling- to poor job of promoting its titles so there's little excitement about the platform in game circles, and you get the sales that Sony's getting these days.

Sony's marketing team needs a shake-up, at least here in North America and probably world-wide; given that interview I don't see one coming.

If it were not for how snobby and egotistic Sony and in particular, their president, I would not be so inclined to put down the PS3, and would simply be the system "I don't like" but it is when the supporters take things too far that it really bothers me. Besides, consoles generally come out ever 4-6 years and the PS2 might not last 10 years if the PS3 was good enough to get the people still playing PS2 to upgrade. (And I do love the PS2 since unlike th PS3 it is actually great.)

Well, he's at least right in one thing. The PS3 is not competing with the Wii.

Competition implies that there is some kind of consumer decision process going on, and consumers aren't even making decisions, they're just buying Wiis.

Last time I checked, they've never had a console that's been on the market for more than four or five years and we've committed to a ten year life cycle, so you do the math.
That's because the Xbox was Microsoft's first console. The PS1 didn't last 10 years before the PS2 came out. It's kind of an unfair attack.
PS1 lasted 6 yrs before PS2, then 5 more yrs after that.
Ps2 lasted 5 yrs before PS3, then probably 5 more years after that .
Sony's Console marketing cycle is basically to launch a new system halfway during the anticipated lifespan of the system that is out now

I really dont get what sony is aiming at. Most of their points of "why ps3 is the best" are only one sided and it often seems that a fanboy has written them. The only respone I could give sony at this level would be: Xbox users have a bigger dick

As for 'how can any console compare to PS3 because it has blu ray, that's just mental, sure there's going to be the occasional game that wont fit on the 360's discs, but the way I see it, if GTA 4 can go multiformat, with the size of the game, and the amount of content on it, I don't think we're going to be missing much just because the 360 doesn't have 50gb discs.

I think maybe the new final fantasy will need it, as it'll no doubt be packed with blu ray quality FMV, but that's about it.

Note I own neither console but I've had a fair bit of time with each machine, having a friend with each.

As someone above stated, most gamers won't give a damn in the end about the console they're playing, so long as they're getting access to the games they want. For me, I'm still tempted to get a 360, for Dead Rising and a few other games, but I'll hold out for the next price drop I think.

As for reliability, whatever happened to consoles like the SNES, you could kick one of those down the stairs then put it in the dishwasher for a super wash, and it'd still carry on working, seems the current gen of consoles quit on you if you dare cough in the same room.

(not that I want to kick any of the machines downstairs at the moment!)

Well for the 360 console itself, his statement is absolutly 100% true, in my case and all my friends who onw 360's as well, they have all had the red ring of death!
I know people with the red ring too. He could have just said "The Xbox 360 is a pile of junk".

"It's difficult to talk about Nintendo because we don't look at their console as being competitors," he said. "They're a different world and we operate in our world - that's kind of the way I look at things."

So they ignore anything they can't bullshit their way through? Sony shut up and try to sell the PS3, don't try to stop the other consoles geting sales.

Its not just this interview eather, they keep beating the same dead horse.
In that quote, I'd say he's dead on with what he said. The wii is in competition, at least generally, but in terms of specifics it's doing it's own thing that's noticeably separate from the other two consoles. Kaz knows this, so thank god he actually said "They're doing their own thing, we're doing ours."

That's one thing I'm crediting him for in this interview right now.

A ten-year lifespan? Ten years ago, I was using a Pentium MMX 166 with 16MB of RAM. By the end of ten years of the PS3, the PC will make the PS3 look like an armless, legless cripple in comparison.
WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT PC-

Ehem, sorry, we're not talking about PCs here. Seriously, we've been over these PC/Console stuff a billion times already. There's no point in even trying to mention this stuff since the PC will always be like this.

You know I didn't really agree with you, but after mentioning PC I see your point.

Look, I'm not saying the wii isn't competition with the PS3/360, of course it is, but that's generally speaking.

The Wii and PS3 are aiming at two different markets, but that doesn't mean that the other market wouldn't consider buying the other console.

It's a trend I've see recently, all the people that I know who have Wii's have PS3's, and the people who have 360s only have 360s. This is what I've seen though, don't quote me on that.
