I am at a loss for words... this is horrendous.
Talk about sterotyping. They make it seem as if every girl is some flitty blonde that justs likes to gossip with their friends. I don't think that any of the girls portrayed in that ad would ever, EVER pick up a game.

Plus it says I'm a locoroco:
You bring energy and music everywhere you go! If given a chance, youd[sic] swing on vines, swim underwater, and leap over fields just to be with your friends. Then you would probably start singing.

This is the picture it painted of me:

This is me:

Not black, but not super-colorfull-lively, especially not singing! But still nice and pleasant.

I am a girl: I will not rest until they market a titanium-reinforced gun-metal grey industrial-strength PSP with ground-to-air missile launcher attachments.
And they had *better* market it to girls.
Hell Yes. i'd buy one. and it better have a god damn yellow smiley face on the psp logo.

On behalf of all men who find that marketing something to girls because it's pink, lilac or whatever, I apologize to the female gaming population. Tell me when we are breaking into Sony's office. I can make the guy who thought this dumbass plan's death look like suicide.

I would also like to apologize for typecasted games like Hannah Montana. This game's very existance shames all of gaming.

Ok...

I don't see the difference between a pink PSP and a pink smartphone, except one can make calls on top of gaming. Besides, Sony obviously needs the revenue. It's not like anyone else they market to is buying their shit.

Personally, I'm hoping for a FTW Green or ROFL Red one.
Same here. That's when I may buy a PSP. But the God of War Edition was already red, so they need to find another colour.

On topic: Why did they design a lilac PSP and market it to girls only? Are they saying that girls don't like black or silver? Or that they don't enjoy other types of games?

Smooth advertising, Sony. Like a gravel road.
My advert would say "Lilac PSP, two rumble packs included......ladies". ;) /joke

Why don't they just release a diamond encrusted shoe shaped portable console loaded with casual games and get it the hell over with?

You're already in the market. They're trying to attract that other type of girl with this.

No, you're not. Little girls love lilac, and it works out becuase I love little girls.

Also, I just want to add that the preceding comment is a joke and there is no need to storm my home. My dungeon is strictly off limits to children. Who knows what they could do with the illegal fireworks I keep in there.

Games made for girl gamers is something that is impossible to acheive, because girl gamers play the same awesome games as we do. Do this for me compare a game like Final Fantasy Tactics with some of the tripe sony is selling.

Final Fantasy Tactics > Sony marketing
100+ hour Epic > Somthing that makes you die a little inside

I'd love to hear the collective slap of every face palming girl gamer out there.

The PlayStation was put on the map because it was marketed twords a different demographic than the then traditional gaming one. Just as the Wii is doing now. This is pointed twords the kind of girl who is obsessed with shopping and boys and pop stars like Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. (...)
Basicly this.
I don't think this ad was Sony's realisation that girls play games. I think this was mainly aimed at girls young enough to enjoy Hannah. And those who use abbrevations and etc, etc, etc. So I don' think Sony has becomed complete morons, I just think they haven't expressed themselves good enough. I think the thing with this was that they were solely aiming at one demographic within the girl-gaming-population. It just didn't come out that clear.

And the reason why the girls on the ad is older than those who typicly enjoy Hannah Montana, is because the girls who do usually look up and adore older girls, and do what they do. And therefor the ad contains those girls, for the girls who enjoy Hannah to look up to

Or, you know, they could've just covertly offered a pink color option for the PSP- like, ummm, its coming to me, NINTENDO! Following the business model of the company thats kicking your ass is never a bad idea.

Also, putting all of the sexism and pitiful attempts to be hip aside, what is with all of these companies basing their advertisements on the color options of a certain product? Ipod Chrome! Now in six different colors! That's fine, but will it play?

Wow, another cliche overblown article about Sony marketing. Good work guys. But lets look at this like it actually is instead of sensationalizing it.

Now if readers watched Sony's E3 conference, they would have already known it was coming out, so good job not doing your job. Thumbs up.

Second, Sony is trying to market to young teen girls. Like it or not, this is more or less how you reach out to them. By associating it with what they already like. People who are on this forum think it's stupid, as do I. But guess what, WE are NOT the target audience. Will it work, I doubt it, I just cant see young girls playing video games.

Third, Sony is trying to reach a new demographic, why is everyone so strongly against that? I believe video games need as much exposure and acceptance in society as it can get. Anti-social emo nerds be damned.

Lastly, it a friggin PSP in a different color. Seriously, get over yourself. Other colors will always be available, so it's not like your stuck with a feminine looking handheld should you choose to get one. Besides, everyone on this forum seems to hate the PSP, or anything else made by "the boggymen", so why do you care?

I can hazard a guess why, because it PlayStation? Give me a break. I know it's trendy to hate PlayStation this generation but it's just so played out, especially when it's the same 4 or 5 excuses over and over. Considering Sony marketing's history and who they are trying to attract, I think this is one of the better thought out advertisements. Certainly beats talking squirrels and possessed babies or whatever.

PS- For the record, every console maker has a light and dark side. And no this isn't an invite to a console battle, please keep it about the advert
