Well, not sure if I will end up picking one up now. I have a 360 which I am perfectly content with and I barely have enough time to play all the games on the 360 that interest me, let alone on another platform.

Think I'll keep waiting a bit more.

3 years too late, Sony. If they had done this 3 years ago, you might be looking at a PS3 owner instead of a Xbox 360 owner. Now I have too much crap for my Xbox, including custom made arcade sticks, that I'll never go back. C'est la vie!
Okay I don't get you. Did you sign your soul away to Microsoft saying you can never buy a Sony product? How hard is it to own more than one system?

What more do you want with your PS3 free cookies? They lowered the damn price be happy about it.

Yes. Yes. Yes. A million time, YES!

Brilliant move by Sony and now I will hold up my end of the bargain and get a PS3. Not just that, a PS3 Slim. Sony, I think I love you again.
I hope to see you on PSN.

very nice, this will make it much more accessible to the gaming community, now, if they can only fix their games problem.
Exactly what games problem are you talking about?

All this news teaches me to do is to never buy another Sony launch platform.

Here i sit like a fool now with my $600 60 gig PS3 that I've rarely used in 2 years and realize I could have and SHOULD have "waited".

Granted I could have waited on my 360 as well, but since I play so many of my games on it, I at least feel that I've somewhat gotten my money's worth out of it. And since I got it way back then for what a PS3 costs NOW, I guess it evened out in the wash.

However, this is what gamers have been waiting for. There is no more reason NOT to own a PS3.
So I'm going to wait now to see if the PS3 suddenly dominates the console market once more with amazing hikes in sales at the new lower selling point, since that was the #1 gripe of every person who didnt own a PS3 up until this point.

And I guess Activision wins. Sony has dropped their price, so now Activision can continue to make whatever "epic" games they were threatening not to make on the PS3 because it was too expensive.

I don't have a problem with old fatty. Then again I didn't mind the original brick-style Xbox either.

I don't expect it will make a huge wave in the marketplace though. Most people who wanted a PS3 have already got one; it's been around for a long time now.

WHAT GAMES PROBLEM!

Sorry sorry, Rage issues under control, Ahem. What exactly is the Games Problem? They are certainly not lacking. Or do you mean titles that intrest you specificly (No venemous emphasis on the You)
lol sorry, there arent nearly as many games for ps3 as xbox or wii, and companies like EA (or was it activision?...one of those two) and valve dont want to make their games for it as it is so different (programming wise) from every other consoles

I'm glad Sony finally came to their senses and lowered the prices but I'm not crazy about the new look. The console actually looks cheaper. The only reason I'll buy one now is for the Blu-ray. If I can spend 50-100 bucks more than a stand alone player and get a game system with it I might as well.

Can I just get the 120 gig old model for the same price as this new one?

Wow, Sony lowers the price, and you ***** that it looks cheap.

They make it slimmer, and you ***** that its ugly.

If you want B/C, find an 80 gig like I did.

Is there anything Sony can do that would make you not complain. Not even praise them, just not complain? While I guess it might be fun to piss and moan about everything, but after a while nobody cares what you have to say.

And yes, the George Foreman joke is really damn old. At least people will shut up about the price.

The Activision boss was talking out of his ass. And like I've said before, if they dont want to make games for the PS3, it's their loss. As for lack of games, I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you should look at the library before you make judgements.

Is there backwards compatability? That's all I want to know. It seems unlikely since it wasn't specifically mentioned.
Why is backwards combatibility such a big issue for every one ? When ever i want to play a PS2 game i just use my PS2 (that was until my PS2 finally took it's toll and died a surprising yet peaceful death)

and my view on the PS3 slim is that it's all slik and mean, I just wish it had that chrome trim the PS3 has.

Never did like the visual stylings of the "slimline" models Sony put out; the PSone looked ugly (PSone being the 'slimmed down' PSX, so you know), Slimline PS2 looked strange, and this... looks cheap and nasty.

The "Monolith" PS3 just looks damn sweet. I'd not change it... especially since I've already upped the Hard Drive beyond anything Sony are offering with the Slimline.

I can't figure this out either. My PS3 is set up side by side with my PS2. Also hooked up and ready to rock is an N64 and a Gamecube. To play my PS2, all I need do is change the channel...

...but my TV hasn't left the HDMI1 channel in over four months. In fact, I can't remember when I last played the PS2.

It would be no less effort for me to run PSX / PS2 games on the PS3, but I wouldn't do it. The newer games are just more rewarding to play.

It looks..... weird. I'm not sure I like it. I do like the idea of Bravia sync, being a Bravia owner, still, I think I'll keep my current PS3, and give it Linux as a little present to make it feel better than the slim.

None of the models being sold at the moment have PS2 BC, just PS BC.

The only way to get a model with PS2 BC is Ebay, and then you've got exorbitant prices to deal with (at least, the last time I checked.)
I have a few local game shops, and most of them still sell used 20 gigs and 60 gigs. The NTSC 80 gig has moderately well done BC and should still be on store shelves.

Of course, if you can't find any of these, there is one other thing I noticed on ebay:
Hum, most of them cost less than a current gen game. [http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m38.l1313&_nkw=Playstation+2+console&_sacat=See-All-Categories]

and of course, if the PS2 games that you want to play on your ps3 were popular, you might check if a version of them has come out on the PSN.
